Ah kk, but do people still really keyboard turn?

People do. Not the people in that video though. :P

When I used to PvP a frost mage, jumping was just part of playing the class.

Yep, they do.  It looks a lot like the early part of this DF clip where the player is spinning the skeleton:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBEp-WO3Kqo

You'll see a melee class just running around in a small circle around a target while auto-attacks and triggered abilities hit from the peripheral facing as the target will attempt to maintain their own facing to be able to hit.  You will see it more against casters who need to stand still to complete their casts than you will against other melees who have other movement options.

But yeah...just like that skeleton slowly turning (but so much slower), you will see who the obvious keyboard turners are.

I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?

Jebus. Well the last time I pvp'd in a tab target style ground mmo was months and months ago in WAR and on occassion (as you say), you would come across the odd scrub who would rotate on his axis in the manner you suggest whilst you pummeled them. But i'd have thought by now the majority would have moved on from that..... guess i'm wrong lol.

I even have a close friend that just hasn't stopped keyboard turning. Additionally, he has all these weird keybinds with shift and alt just so he can keep the default keys (like "r" for reply) bound around his WASD keys.

I think it's just a matter of getting comfortable and then never wanting to spend that week or so to change your style. Some people get frustrated during that transition. He's more of a PvE guy anyway, so it doesn't USUALLY hurt him too bad.

I suppose you could get away with it in PvE, given that the mobs themselves usually do it and the AI is generally as dumb as a stick.

Personally i've never liked key turning, just feels unnatural to me, most likely due to my fps roots I guess.

This clip is from around May or so of this year - still trying to get people to switch from keyboard to mouse turning.  It is an issue not only in PvP, but in PvE as well:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VtBNHd62WI

There are several clips out there from people complaining about how raids end up getting wiped because of keyboard turning at certain points instead of mouse turning (yeah, some raids are just choreographed movements - stand here, now stand there, now over here, etc - and if a person is keyboard turning, they will not move fast enough...wipe).

there are games where it is necessary to jump and games that arent necessary but have it anyways and that just looks plain silly

When I see someone that cant stop jumping in an mmo I always assume they have A.D.D. in RL.

Good grief! I didn't know there was games that had ppl run like that. It is jarring to watch!
