I think I saw that we have unique ones per class. Maybe someone can answer that....yes Cypher I mean you.
Hopefully we will also be able to add to our Motley Crew as new expansions are released. I dont know if they could fit them back into the original content, but even new content with new companions, as time goes on, would be OK.
Granted though I hope we can use any compnaion we wish in any newer content. So we get X companion at launch. Then in all future content, they bring back the VO to do the new content. Get Y companion in 1st expansion, so any expansion afterwards can use Y companaion as well.
Am hoping we get an expansion a yr for TOR. I didnt mind EQs 2 per yr, but it gets a bit much....especially if it isnt polished/feature complete.

A dev said more than 3 and less than 10 companions. Doesn't mean thay can't adjust the number by launch though.
I would think that each companion will continue to be your companion no matter how many expansions there are. Unless ofc you kill them or they don't like your choices and leave on there own. But a few will never leave no matter what. And I would think that future expansions my add new companions as well.

I didnt mean as far as losing them in expansions.
In BW games, certain characters will give certain responses when you bring them into certain zones. That is what I am getting at.
BW would need to re-use the original VO actors for the new content.
That is of course if NPCs react to their environment.

For all we know it might totally be dependent on the choices you make like other BioWare games. Then again as this is an MMO they probably will force companions on you and just shift their attitude rather then have you lose them.
If I had to guess I'd say probably 6 companions. I don't see them giving you many more then that, seeing as how you can only take one with you, and not 3.

NPC's as well as companions will react differently with different dialogue based on you class choices. Based on your actions, you can and will change the personality and responses of your companions. This is what I was getting at as far as losing a companion. If you push them too far with some of your choices. They will leave you and never come back.
With the VO responses for new companions. I don't think it will be too bad. I don't think there will be hundreds of hours of different dialogue for your companions. It will be an hour or two of responds based on the choices you make and the environment. This will probably lead to the same response patterns over time. It could begin to get repetitive. Willmuave to wait and see how it works in game. But after the umteenth time doing a flashpoint or world quest. You may be looking to turn off the response or change your companion for somethng new.

So you feel if we get a new companion, they will go back and blend them in with the old content? Possible. I really hope that with new expansion the original companions you get have VO in them.

You see I just dont know if it is going to happen that way for me. Referring to VO/companions getting old.
Spoiler Alert for other BW games......
Things like Shale finding out its original sex was female in DA. You arent the kings son(Alistar was), or even more powerfull than any other Grey Warden. Just in the right place at the right time. Sten with his regret for his actions against the kind family that had helped him.
Minsc and the "go for the eyes".....or Yoshimo(think that was his name....the thief) betraying you in the BG series Jan and his damn turnips.
The paladin chick that turns evil in NWN....you can see her changing thru game. The underdark expansion was awesome as well with getting involved in a drow area.
Mission and Bastila in KOTOR. Mission was dumped by her brother, and Bastila had mommy issues. HK-47, and the fact if you did deep enough, he gets big bonuses for finding out who you are. His banter puts 3PO to shame.
Mass Effect 1/2.....heck so much about these games were awesome. In the first one, the fact that at the end you find the prothean VI was shutting off lifepods to keep a few alive, so they could try to help the next generation. Or someone like Jack, who you totally expect to be a guy, andends up carrying all types of baggage, yet underneath the scared little girl comes thru.
Wont bring up Jade Empire so much, as this was BW's muligan IMO. The kooky inventor did make me laugh at times, and the one brother in that armor looked totally bad arse(guy on game cover). The one time BW story didnt enrich my experience.
So many events/characters that makes BW gaming so memorable for me. Well as memorable as can be, as I do take pain pills daily, and my mind isnt as sharp these days.
I eat up BW games like a crack addict. TOR could totally suck as a MMO, but for the SP story experience, I am expecting big things. especially with them having Drew Krapyourpants(heh whatever his last name is) from ME helping write the story.
And as always, your companions are what help make BW games what they are.

I agree that in the class story arc and optional companion quests that will be in the game. Companions will be a great feature. Even in many quoup quests, the companions will add to the experience. But as an MMO, we will end up running flashpoints with friends multiple times. Or world group quests over and over to help others and ourselves to get gear. And raids over and over for gear. This is where the game is repetitive. So having the same dialogue responses from our companions happen over and over along with the gear grind can get annoying.
I will play the heck out of the class story quests. I will be looking to run the companion quests when they come up. The companion play will be just as fun as in the SPG's for me. But this will be an MMO. So having many players as the same class with the same companion will be interesting. Some responses will be different because of different alignment even in the same class. But being in a good guild or playing with friends a lot can lead to the same responses in the background from companions.
Not saying that it will be a bad thing. Just that the MMO features can be effected by the good RPG elements.

Hey Moaky, the name you were looking for is Drew Karpyshyn, he was the lead writer on KOTOR and ME1 and co-lead writer on ME2. He also wrote the ME novels as well as the Darth Bane trilogy. He is the writer for the Jedi Knight class story in SW:ToR so it should be excellent.
I currently plan to have a Sith Warrior (Marauder spec) as my main (although I will play every class, maybe even every advanced class at some point), but this may change to Jedi Knight (Sentinel spec) if I really enjoy Drew's storytelling.
MMORPG History:
Playing - EVE Online.
Played (Retired) - AO, SWG, MxO, WoW, RFO, SoR, CoX, EQ2, GW, L2, Vanguard, LotRO, AoC, TCoS, Aion.
Favourite MMO - Pre-CU SWG, 3 Years, 4 Accounts, 2 Pre-CU Jedi (1 Pre-9).
Awaiting - Star Wars: The Old Republic, The Secret World, Earthrise.
AYe I will be playing thru all the class stories....have all the time in the world when not feeling bad. I made a thread a while back about hoping this game, ME3, and DA2 are all launched in intervals....dont wanna feel rushed in game due to wanting to play all 3 badly.
I usually log 2 or 3 complete playthrus of BW games(to get various endings) before I think about moving to a new game. Coming back when an expansion/DLC hits.
And yes I agree.....Drew is an awesome writer. I hate shooters, yet ME/ME2 might be my favorite BW game ever. The writing would be the reason. BG/BG2 and KOTOR of course rounding out top 3(and really all 3 could be ranked 1 by me). I wish BW had done KOTOR 2.
I am a total BW fanboi....but so what. Until they make me feel cheated, out of purchase price for a game, I will continue to be.
