AOC.. Might have 30k subs right now..... MIGHT, WAR on its way to being FTP and possibly dead, LOTR in now FTP because .. it has no choice.... sort of does away with the argument that WOW clones do better than Sandbox games since EVE online is not only larger than all these games put together, its subs are still going up every year.

Actually, LotrO is doing pretty well, with their revenue doubled and player numbers being 3-4 times what they were before. It wasn't because Turbine had to do it, it is because after seeing the results for DDO they wanted to do it.

And yes, themepark MMO's and EQ-styled MMO's are doing better than sandbox games, WoW and EVE Online are anomalies and unique occurrences of their own, ignore these 2 and the picture becomes even clearer how so many more people are playing non-sandbox MMO's.

That potential also shows in the initial box sales of that kind of MMORPG's: WAR, AoC and Aion had box sales reaching a million and more, that's a number that sandbox MMO sales don't even come close to reaching.

The problem isn't that there is no interest for themepark and EQ-styled MMO's - the numbers clearly show that there's far more interest for that kind of MMO's than for sandbox-type of MMO's - but that the former games had trouble holding them, due to rushed and unfinished releases.

Ok just to get it out of the way, EVE is buthering WAR, LOTR and AOC in subs its statistically  right there with FF online, although it passed it up a few years ago. No game company  wants to go FTP unless they  have no other choice. D@D online is soon to be replaced by  the Neverwinter nights project and is just dead weight, LOTR is as good as dead, AOC is by all accounts dead, WAR is a year away  from being FTP itself.

There are 4 games with more subs than EVE right now, WOW, L1,L2, and Aion. WOW clones are the equivlent  of  dead roadkill.

Heh, you're funny. Unrealistic, but very funny.

Oh, I fixed your quote to the current realistic situation. LotrO as good as dead? There is not one person that will follow you in this mad delusion that themepark MMO's and EQ-styled MMO's are doomed to fade away.

And even more when MMO's like GW2, SW:TOR, Rift and TERA hit the scene, it'll be obvious how enormous the gap between themepark/EQ-styled MMO's and sandbox MMO's is. It already is as the numbers show, even when you want to cling to that false hope that MMO's like Fallen Earth is sandbox MMO too.

But hey, I can see how people have to have hope. If you so much need to believe that sandbox MMORPG's will triumph over non-sandbox MMORPG's, then feel free to do so image

We all need hope and a dream, even how unrealistic and foolish it sometimes may be.

As a result, you have more people here complaining about things not being sandbox enough than you might find in other game forums...

It's really dumb becuase this is a completely different game with completely different mechanics by a completely different company. Why anyone would expect for it to be like SWG is beyond me.

Well said. This site has always been negative in the first place, but with a popular IP like Star Wars it always gets magnified. So to answer the question, the negativity on this site isn't a positive nor negative sign for TOR, it's just indicates business as usual.

The negativity is everywhere. Which is excellent. It shows that it's controversial. It proves that people are truely skeptical. Which normally means that more people will buy the game. However the biggest issues currently is that will they deliver the end game. They have nearly all elements for the game outside of the end-game. And we still have 6-8 months.
