So my brother and I are looking for an mmo we can play together effectively in group play that also has pvp we can participate in. We have been playing lotro but you cannot access pvp so that has put a damper on our fun. We have old guild wars accts so that could be a possibility and we already played wow for 3+ years so that is out. Any suggestions? also seeming we are both students we prefer f2p but we can be pursuaded if theres a free trial that gets us hooked :P

Me and my wife duo'ed thru CoH for about 6 to 7 weeks at launch. Got boring as chit after that, but during that time we had fun. That was yrs ago, so might look into it to see what all has been added over the yrs.
If you didnt mind old graphics, there is always EQ1. They have hired henchmen these days. Two chars, with 2 henchmen, could probably do good. Better still, you would have TONS of content. Bad thing is EQ is a raiding game, so to get the good stuff, you would have to join a guild.
EQ2 could be a good call as well. My wife been playing that one for about 4 yrs now. You can do a bit of stuff with 2 peeps.
LoTRO as well....although unsure if 2 will cut it.
Anyways you mentioned WoW, so suggested more themepark style games. Take note though....WoW is the most polished game in the business by most accounts. It also runs on lower end PCs. Might wanna keep that in mind.
Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget.
If you don't mind moving away from fantasy then try Fallen Earth Trial. I personally think its an awesome game. If there are two of you, you can pretty much do most content and there is plenty of PvP in zones 2 and 3. Plus conflict towns coming in, mean you fight over towns and its resources. However its hugely PvE as well so its not FFA hardcore. Community + GM's are the best in the business.
I feel the LotRO pain, I liked that game a lot but instanced housing and monster PvP is pointless and I need PvP at least.
p.s. if you play FE with two then you can really have a good combo of melee and pistol or melee and rifle. one tags and the other bags
You stated you have a guildwars account, I'd personally go back to Guildwars.
You want Group play for you and your brothers, guildwars has that pve / pvp based.
It's instanced but so what thats what makes it amazing for group playing
Factions added - Alliance battles 12 vs 12 pvp
Nightfall added heroes - 3 extra AI controled Henchmen, works well for personalizing your own group so you and your brother could make a full party from you and your 3 extra hencies.
Eye of the North - Added Dungeons, polymock battles "Fun untill you've done the missions"
Alot of awesume new stuff in guildwars.
Guild Wars and Dungeons & Dragons Online are good cooperative games.

I suggest Aika Global. It has a very good PVP. Doing the quest is also fun whether you solo it or partner with your brother. Of course it would be easier and more fun if you play with your brother. So there. It's F2P so may want to try it.
Played: Runescape, Adventure Quest
Currently playing: Aika Global, Atlantica Online
Waiting for: Cardmon Hero, Dynasty Warriors Online
if you want PvP, AoC is awesome. I hate PvP, so despite trying (i did make 80, i did do some raids, and i did get 100 pvp kills) i just couldn't stick with it. I just get turned off by random morons killing everyone for no reason. But anyhow, if you enjoy that sort of thing, AoC is definitely awesome. The PvE game is definitely doable duo - there are group dungeons and raids, but you can easily get to 80 solo / duo. And of course there is the PvP, which includes both overland ffa pvp, open area land control / sieges and instanced battlegrounds. The game has a monthly fee.

For free, I'd recommend Guild Wars also. going duo is quite different from WoW with the heroes and all as someone else said. With some serious study and some work, you could take on 90% of the PvE content as a duo. being organized with you combos, stuns, knockdown, protection spells etc. in PvP you can be a menace to be reckoned with.

no.
AoC pvp is incredibly broken with incredible gear imbalance, the fotm classes rolling everyone, premades completely owning mini games, biggest guilds continously locking down the Shrines of Bori, and sieges STILL a complete lag fest were the guild which manages the least dced ends up winning. AoC it's an awesome PVE game but PVP has only gotten worse with every patch.
if you are looking for a quite casual, very fun, and PVP centered game i highly suggest Warhammer. it has an unlimited free trial ( restricted to level 10) so you can check it out without spending any money. you can even play it endlessly for free if you just stay at level 10. lately it's been having a fair influx of people just looknig for something fun and casual and the RvR it's quite alive and always fun. PVP is the main focus of War and it's some of the funnest arround and you can experiance it at any level.
guild wars 1... It's pretty much a co-op game. Also vindictus is newer and probably a lil more fun, but has less depth to it than guild wars.
"When it comes to GW2 any game is fair game"
The Pvp on any free to play game is pretty poor to be honest. Well, if its an MMO your after anyway.
You could try perfect world.. but prepare for massive asian grind in slaught.
Another option is Atlantica!.. very good tactial pvp.. but again, epic grinding mid-game.
You could try Eve!.. but it would take you several months of learning and leveling to get to the stage where you can pay for the subscription using in game money (although if you had help from a good corp not that hard) - learning curve isa bitch tho.
There is Guildwars!.. you'd have to buy all the expansions etc, a lot of coop gaming.. but its instanced and just doesnt have the familiar game play that a real MMO has. And Im not certain the pvp scene is any good anymore.
So, im afraid saying "good mmo with good pvp AND free to play" just doesnt happen.
PvP may have some issues in AoC but it is certainly an awesome game for 2 players to run through the PvE, which is some of the best I have seen actually. Gorgeous game to.
I agree with Jakdstripper. WAR would be a good game for you to Coop /PvP/ Fun. Like Jakdstripper said; If you like it and do decide to stick with it after unlimited trial and want to lvl past the lvl 10 cap, WAR is really suited for COOP. I played on day one and lvled with my freind so fast. about 10 days it took to hit 40. I was 2nd Squiqheader on server to hit 4 and my freind was one of the 1st players on server to hit the cap. I would reckomend one of you going healer class and the other DPS/Pet Class or Tank. or if you just wanna pick up and play pvp fun every now and again try out all the classes on the f2p
There are a few decent MMO's that I know of with PvP. Unfortunately for you, they are all subscription-based.
1. AoC - Amazing looking game if you have the system to run it. Has some of the best PvE encounters I have played. PvP-wise I would recommend sticking at lvl 39 till you get a PvP level or two, then again at 59, and finally at 79 as these are the cut-off levels for minigames. PvP is fair in those minigame brackets (20-39, 40-59, 60-79), but it becomes less so at 80 (the current levelcap) due to AA's and top level 10 PvP gear. On the PvP servers there is also open-world PvP, on PvE servers PvP is resricted to minigames and The Border Kingdoms. I think AoC has a free trial up to level 20.
2. Aion - Again this is a very pretty game, especially if you prefer the eastern style of artwork (I personally don't). PvE is passable, although I hear that it has improved with the latest patch. PvP wise it is faction v faction, Elyos v Asmodian. Once you hit level 25 you can enter the Abyss and fly around PvPing, alternatively there are rifts which open from one factions lands into the others every few hours. Also there is now the 'ground abyss', Balaurea, but that is a level 50+ zone (levelcap was raised to 55 in the last patch). If you and your brother rolled a Ranger and a Sorceror you would be set for some serious fun as these classes can do incredible amounts of burst damage and can kite for fun. If you pick Aion, don't play a melee class, they are gimped in the Abyss.
3. EVE online - This is a wonderful game that I have been playing off-and-on for over five years. It is completely different from any other MMO's out there atm. It does take some getting used to and has an extreme learning curve. PvP is full-loot, if you are engaged and destroyed in lowsec/nullsec space you lose your ship and all its fittings, so if you are put off by the hardcore PvP ruleset stay away from this one.
4. Basically what others have said: GW, WAR, FE etc.. Most of these games have a free trial, so give them a go and see what you prefer.
