Classic Music

Inspired by the post on the UO boards, here's some youtube links to classic Everquest music.  If you have other tunes which are more nostalgic to you than the ones I've listed, feel free to post them here.

Really hard to find the non-midi music files on youtube.  If you can find some, post them here as well.

  • That music is the soul reason I keep my EQ2 account up to date occassionally.  Soully for the EQ1 music boxes that I've collected in my house.

Great songs. I'm tempted to resub.

I always thought about it, but then I always think of how far ahead the veterans are.  My character is only level 65 with less than 100 AAs.  These days, players are level 85 with thousands of AAs.

I just resubbed a few weeks ago. I'm leveling up a bard. I have no AA's and currently 67 I think. I'm holding off till I get to max level to turn on AA's. I don't plan to raid. I think those days are over for me as it is just to time consuming.

But this is the one game where I enjoy the grind. It's something I really can't explain, but something about the feeling when you gain a level or an AA just feels fun. I do it in moderation because school takes a majority but it is a good break.

What I want to say is jump in. The hot zones make the exp fly. Get a few friends (or find a guild), bring your merc and head to a hotzone. You'll see how fast the exp flows.

The expansion comes out the 12th I believe so you will see a lot of people in zones grinding for exp to reach level 90. Perfect time to jump in and meet a few people or find a guild that fits your playstyle.

You aren't alone, sometimes it's nice to just go out and start killing stuff rather than worry about questing or what part of a quest you're on.

As far as music goes, this is by far my fav one, brings tears to my eyes.  But then my first character in EQ was a wood elf....and yes I fell off kelethin within 5 minutes of logging in.  My friends almost died from laughing.  image

That is all very true.  I love grinding in EQ because the groups in that game are always so much more social.  The combat is slower, allowing for text-based communication while in the middle of a fight, most non-instanced dungeons (to my knowledge) are not designed to be progressed through at least to the degree they are in World of Warcraft, and the group play is actually, in my opinion, much simpler than in a game like World of Warcraft.  For example, Everquest is one of the few games that I still have the patience to play as a tank class, simply because there aren't five million things the tank must do in order to hold aggro on 40 mobs at once as is the exaggerated case in my other, more modern MMOs.

I would change one thing though.  I never liked how certain spells could only be crafted, looted, or bought from players who either crafted or looted the spell themselves.  It's especially a pain within the current stage of EQ as it is often difficult to find the support needed to obtain the spells from the more obscure and out of date locations.

    This.

The Kelethin theme can still bring shivers down my spine.

They did a pretty good job of having an upgraded Kelethin themesong in EQ2, see here

If only they had made the whole game of EQ2 a version that was similarly upgraded but still in the spirit of EQ...
