World of Warcraft: Top 5 Easter Eggs

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

The List today features a look back at some of the Easter eggs that Blizzard has slipped into World of Warcraft, daring intrepid gamers to find them if they can. MMORPG.com's Bill Murphy brings some of his favorites back into the light and challenges readers to add to The List.

I’ve put together today’s list as a my own personal “Top 5 Easter Eggs in WoW”. And I ask you all, whether you still play it vigilantly or have come to loathe the game, to feel free to chime in and add to this list, especially if you’ve found some new ones during your travels with the beta of Cataclysm. There’s certainly plenty more nods to pop culture than the few I’ve listed here.

Read more of The List.

I'm betting on a goblin in cataclysm being named Milly Bays.

The rat talking to the turtles near a busted bottle of ooze in the Dalaran sewers.   Now that is awesome.

I remember seeing that for the first time in WotLK beta. Laughed for about 5 mins.

I like the Link easter egg, I never knew about that one. He rewards you with a Sword and his Boomerang, lol how epic xD

There should be a new easter egg which rewards a Pony similar to Link's from Ocarina of time, oh please blizzard xD

Dran Droffers Salvage Co, with the father orc always yelling "You dummy!" to the son orc ^_^

Really the best easter egg is probably room of the upside down sinners, kara crypts -- it's a bit dark, though.  Kind of like the demonic kids in Goldshire.

How about mcdiver, the engineer trainer or Area-52! i lol'd at the exit gate buff!

"Clam Master K" in Borean Tundra made me laugh.

Of course most people have forgotten that the dashboards of the shredders have a tiny display that shows the image of Kerrigan from the old Brood Wars box.

Blizzard has a lot of easter eggs.  Some of them are there for the older players.

I lol'd the first time i got a "Broken I Win Button" from a mob or when a mob dropped "The Stoppable Force"  There are all kinds of little things that are pretty funny in the game.  The debuff in outlands when you have to search through the fel hunter poo...or just the fact that you have to search through poo for a quest.  Comments on Green and blue items ther are a ton of little things that Blizzard added that makes the game that much more fun.

Edit:  Auntioneer Yarly was a pretty good one too

Finding (didn't know before hand) the "krull  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krull_(film)" Glaive in Onyxia lair - I busted up vent when I found it yet none of the 39 other players knew what I was banging on about.

Most of those aren't easter eggs, they're just pop culture references. Easter eggs used to be hidden obscure references, not some readily identifiable celebrity standing in the middle of a room.

There's the brothers from "The Lost Vikings" game, and my favorite, something people are often confused by because it got a little split up, a Discworld reference:

Dustwallow marsh, Theramore, Foothold Citadel - Commander Samaul and Captain Garran Vimes.

They are an omage to Captain Samaul Garran Vimes, Commander of the Nightwatch in the city of Anhkmorpork. (Read the discworld stuff by terry pratchett, especially the nightwatch story arc, though these guys show up in a lot of other books too.)

The only thing that would make it even cool is if they had a little boy run up to them and say "Moo, where's my cow?".   (That's a more recent reference to two books, "Thud" and "Where's my cow?". To clarify, VImes read the book, which was actually published, called "Where's my cow?" to his son in the book "Thud". )

Lost my mind, now trying to lose yours...

The best part of Haris Pilton is that there is normally invisible npc called Ricole Nichie right next to her (http://www.wowhead.com/npc=19719/ricole-nichie) doing /rude at Haris... and yes you do need Eye of Divinity to be able to see her.

There are plenty of easter eggs/references out there, if you know where to look. :)

Some of the things Blizzard has put in are actually pretty obscure.

There's a terminator arm in Ratchet.

There's a huge list, but search for Terminator for more details.

I remember seeing a raptor in Un Goro with the name of Obi who was level 1

Flight path gnome named Kara Thricestar (Kara Thrace from Battlestar Galactica) on the runway in Borean Tundra

Marshall's Refuge is a reference to Land of the Lost. Will and Holly Marshal are both represented, as well as the crystals that one must manipulate to gain bonuses. And, of coarse, the dinosaurs...
