    - GW2: has simply the best or one of the best art design teams around, look at the hi-res videos and ingame scenery screenshots, and there's no doubt that GW2 will look absolutely gorgeous and stunning.

    - TERA/Rift: I've seen some screenshots that makes them look serious contenders of Aion and LotrO

    - TSW: this certainly can't be neglected, an upgraded, improved version of the engine is used that was also used for AoC, so it will have equal quality as AoC but then with 3 years progression on them and a better engine.

    - WoD: we'll not know how exactly it will look, but there was a video demo of the physics engine used and it showed stunningly detailed animation with WoD-style characters.

Op wants to max out his computer and no art style will help that. Besides, art is based on personal taste anyways, some people like manga, some realistic or something else.

And I agree tha all those games are fascinating but I didn't mention them because OP can't try them ot now. He can join the FF XIV open beta and the other 2 games are released.

I see myself playing GW2 and WoDO once they are released, those are the highest games on my list right now but the thread wasn't really about that.

I have not played LOTRO,it may look good i don't know, but looking good also needs variety,a couple good looking areas or a couple good looking armour sets ,does not qualify as the best, imo it is Vanguard.I did play AOC i found it is pretty good looking wise however,i had no complaints about AOC's looks.IMO AOC is a game that came close to being a very good game ,Vanguard is still imo the most aggressive effort of any game.

So far i have heard lotro has great graphics a great community, why doesn't it have more players?I was turned off by the super slow downloading,on 2 tries it would have taken me 2 days,i left it on all night as was on both occasions not even close to being done,so i gave up both times.

Of course, when GW2, Rift, TERA, TSW and WoD come out, it'll be a whole other ballgame. 2011 will be an interesting year in many areas when it comes to MMO's.

I don't think any of them will go head on with FF XIV in this aspect, they all want more players to be able to run them.

AoC had as high sys reqs as FF XIV at launch but after 2 years it can run on most computers. FF XIV can only run on high end machines and even if several of those games might have better art than FF XIV they just can't be considered to have better graphics.

But the thing is that having too good graphics isn't ultimate when you launch, AoC got a lot of complaints because of that when it launched and we already seen some about FF XIV and there will be a lot more soon. After 2-3 years it is an advantage since your game still look modern, AoC is still considered one of the best and that do get it some players.

I have played ( or tested if you want ) both FF14 and Tera, let me say that Tera have much better gfx than FF14, from the games i have played Tera and Continent of the Ninth are the most breathtaking, in a second tier you can put AoC and FF14, all of this imo of course.

Age of Conan blows Vanguard out of the water. Especially when you consider the modeling done in both games.

Age of Conan is my vote.

    fixed

    4.  Aion, LotRO and Vanguard.

These are all about the same level of graphics overall, just each one does different things better.  Aion has great looking character models (if you like the anime/manga look), but the environment lets it down.  Some textures are really poor.  LotRO and Vanguard are the other way around, great environments with terrible character models.

None of the three can hold a candle to AoC maxed out though.  In my opinion it is head and shoulders above all the competition graphically, even yet to release titles such as FFIV, GW2, TERA etc..

    MMORPG History:
    Playing - EVE Online.
Played (Retired) - AO, SWG, MxO, WoW, RFO, SoR, CoX, EQ2, GW, L2, Vanguard, LotRO, AoC, TCoS, Aion.
    Favourite MMO - Pre-CU SWG, 3 Years, 4 Accounts, 2 Pre-CU Jedi (1 Pre-9).
Awaiting - Star Wars: The Old Republic, The Secret World, Earthrise.

For those out right now, Age of Conan wins.

As far as upcoming games: FFXIV, launching this wednesday, will be the best until TERA comes out next year, at which point - it will be best.

TERA videos look good, characters look good with the exceptions:
Castanics: Female skin looks like plastic
Popori: Look like Pooh's great grandson.

I signed up for game testing, so, hopefully I can report later with gaming information that is permitted to release.

Sure, but atleast you can chalk those up to artstyle choices rather than graphical failures, especially since the castanic females are the only ones that seem to look like plastic.  Human females seem to be a bit more realisticly designed, Aman look fierce as they should, and Baraka (though only being male) look plain awesome.

As you can tell by other posts AOC takes top notch for existing MMOs in regards to graphics and I agree.

FF 14 has awesome graphics if you like the FF/ anime style of art. Aion is nice too but I like the AOC look much better.

Champions has nice, smooth graphics and I personally like the cell shading to make have more of a comic book feel.

    MMOs that are coming up:

    GW2 look fantastic.

Vindictus has great graphics but is still in beta and is up for debate on whether it is an MMO. It is fun regardless.

Rifts looks like it is going to have great visuals and DCUO has been touting graphics for a while. We shall see since it has not even gone to beta yet and is out in Nov.

AoC has the best graphics by far and probably the best art as well imo.
