Drop Shock, browser based mech warfare (tactical/strategy mmog)

If you're interested in tactical/strategic online games, you might want to give Drop Shock a try.

Formerly known as TinyWarz, DS is loosely inspired by the Classic BattleTech game system. From meager beginnings players can assemble large armies of mecha and armored vehicles, fighting over the many planets of a distant solar system.

  • PvE, PvP, and Faction Warfare

  • Persistent Occupation of PvP Planets

  • RPG-Style Commander Levels & Skills

  • Unit Modification

  • Player Built Units, Buildings and Mods

  • Friendly, Helpful Community

  • Regular Expansions (New Units, Mods and Playstyles)

The game's admin is offering a new player welcome bonus for the next 7 days. If you'd like to take advantage of this, just reply to the welcome email with "I'm from mmorpg" and you'll receive a bonus.

Drop Shock has a small but active community, we hope you'll stop in and see if it's for you.

Just to add... within a few weeks Drop Shock will be seeing its 5th expansion, "Combat Drop", which will expand gameplay by adding:

    • 8 new units (mecha and armored vehicles)

    • 10 buildings

    • 12 unit modifications

    • and more

Definitely worth a try for anyone interested in sci-fi, tactical battles. I'm part of a multi game clan that recently moved to Drop Shock as a group and we've been very impressed with the admin's level of community involvement, and the level of polish for an indy browser game.

Wow I remember playing this between classes in the student breakroom on a Amiga-32 at Devry (even though we didn't have the MMO part).......wow. I'll have to give it a spin.

The "Combat Drop" expansion is just around the corner, a few days at most.

It was nice to see a few people drop in from mmorpg, we could def use the fresh blood. =) If anyone giving the game a shot has any questions, I go by the same name in game, feel free to look me up.

I think I'd be more interested to try (yes I played Crescent Hawk's Inception and Revenge :D) if the tilesets were more interesting. The screenshots on the site display what looks like cloud's rendered in photoshop as the tileset and no trees/terrain at all.  While I enjoy tactical grid combat, I do require some "setting" for my battles rather then a checkerboard.

Honestly, the bland battlefields are  my biggest complaint about DS as well. It's a regular topic of conversation on the forums. But I think that the entire game as it comes together though more than makes up for it. If you do decide to check it out (which I hope you do) and would like a bit of help from a fellow old school CBT gamer, give me a shout. =)
