Idea for a game to cater to all types

CryomatrixCryomatrix Member EpicPosts: 3,223

I am not sure if this is feasible or not, but here is my idea.

A lot of games have PvP servers and RP servers and that's great, let's expand the idea.

Make the servers cater to different people instead of trying to make the game itself cater to everyone.

So let's give the following values:
PvP = self explanatory
Fast travel = instant travel to distant places or short places
Slow travel = instant travel to really far places but not to short range places
Casual = faster leveling and/or more exp and 2x xp after logging off or whatever
Non-casual = normal leveling, somewhat of a grind
Heavy Crafting or light crafting = heavy is basically in-depth like SWG or retarded like WoW.
Raid or craft based = best items come from raids or best crafting materials come from raid.

The Legend:
PvP = +p or -p
Fast or Slow travel = Ft or St
Casual or non-Casual = C or nC
Heavy Crafting or light crafting = Hc or Lc
Raid based or craft based = Rb or Cb

And basically have a plethora of servers that have each of these permutations. Basically, since i have 5 options and two choices there would be 2^5 possibilities so 32 servers.

They'd look like the following:

1) +p, Ft, C, Hc, Rb
2) -p, St, nC, Lc, Rb
3) +p, Ft, nC, Hc, Cb
4) etc . . .

and all other permutations so the person can choose what they fancy the best. You could also expand this to include other features such as f2p or p2p or whatever.

I am not sure how the programming will work and how different the features would actually be and how much more code it will take, but at least it is an idea.

I'd personally would choose +p, St, nC, Hc, Cb = i love crafting, hate raiding, love pvp, and slow travel.

    I hear that supporting sufficient permutations of the same product causes QA testers to spontaneously explode.

    I must respectfully disagree with your idea.  I'm of the belief that ONE game can not cater to everybody... regardless of what the WoW fanbois want you to think.  I think that games should cater to a specific kind of people and anybody who wants to test it out is welcome to it but once they find that the game is not for them they are more then welcome to go where ever their interests take them.  Because of all the attempts to cater to everybody in one fel swoop we find outselves in the current situation.

    This would all work in a perfect world where games were not made for profit, but rather as a labour of love.  Sadly however this is not so and what I described above is just wishful thinking.

    No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

    In my opinion, I do not think it is possible to do such servers and I know its impossible for a game to cater to everyone, there are always "haters" somewhere. Some servers are based on location so if you wanted to do something specific but far, you may end up lagging.

    I personally think that there should be a number of servers, and each server should have around two/three channels. One is for All-around gaming, basically PvE. The next is Role-Play, and the third, if there is one, should be pvp dependant on the game.

    All three channels are connected in which you can chat, though if you want to switch channels you should be at a main city of some sort or log out and back in. There are still problems with the feature but like everyone, you could work it out.

    WoW is the only MMO that caters to all styles of endgame.

    WoW also happens to be the only Western MMO with 11.5 million subs. But thats another thing. think this may be a link to WoW's success perhaps?
