Top all of that off with the fact that you can play it on a ps3 and I can totally see this thing overcoming WoW.

After countless crashes i finaly created char.

    Guess what error error

    then crash crash

    now cant even login :D

dunno if we played same game. And amout of crashes just 3 weeks from retail is just too much. Beta at this stage should have only random crash per serveral playing sesion. They should push release date later. OR game will die after month. Guess doesnt metter will get costs and profit from box sales anyway.

must be something on your side i had no crashes what so ever

and servers are down thats why you can't log in

Yeah I couldn't really tell you which game I was playing compared to yours.  I had a solid couple of hours of lag free gameplay, and for the first day/night of beta, once I actually got in, it was the least problematic beta I've started of every one I've played.

The point of this is a stress test on the servers.  It's pretty clear from the beta code fiasco they were unprepared for the level of interest, but I'm sure they're working on getting everything up to speed.  There's also a new patch which may have caused one of your crashes.

I'm holding out my opinion on the game so far. Need more then 7 hours of play time to judge the game and decide if its something I will stick with or not. So far though it has the graphics nailed down and the gameplay is deep enough with what appears to be a solid story line to the game.
The only big issue is the interface / mouse keyboard support.  Though I use a gamepad to play (since I have played all FF games and FF 11 with a gamepad)  its just more natural (to me) to play the game that way.

While I agree that dumbing down would be a bad thing, I think Square-Enix is one of the few companies that has the balls to do things the way they think they should be done.  The insistance on grouping for ffxi is testament to that, despite the rabid backlash by most mmorpg players.  In a way, the unusual controls is also a testament to that.

As for the mouse/keyboard thing, it's bound to be an issue just like it was for ffxi.  I for one will probably be getting a gamepad to play it with, but I think people are jumping the gun by panning the layout.  Just because it's not the generic layout from WoW and the WoW clones doesn't mean it's necessarily bad.  I would fool around with keymapping and macros and giving it some solid time before declaring it a gamebreaker.

In Re: to the post above me, while that may be true, this is the first one that actually feels like it has the ability to pull it off.  Also, in Re: to others, there's no doubt Star Wars will probably kill both these games, but that's still a long ways off.  I think ffxiv has a good solid year of being number one or a really close number 2 to WoW.

Keep dreaming lol. The game is a mess and if you think this game is going to be number one then perhaps you need to head back over to the OT forums, there you can dream about winning the mid terms.

This game can give WOW a run, lol talk about blind.

The thing is, WoW has been around for what? 6 years by now? FFXIV just started its open beta.. You really cannot compare one to another

Personally for me, I would put Graphics, sound and gameplay all first. Most suprisingly the last couple of mmo's iv quit from it was due to the music, or lack there of, there was no blend with the game environments.

But people will compare, its how the mmo community is, everything is compared to WOW. I can scream all day to people that you are comparing a matured game content with years of patches and exansions to a newly released game. And they will still come back with "But they could have put more end game content in" They seem to forget about the lvl 1-99 and all the content there.

Sadly he is right, as most of WOW players think just like this.

Also, what is it you are comparing "mess" too?  Surely you are intelligent enough not to compare it to something that has already been realeased? But then again.,... i point to my fist sentence!

The only way to beat WoW is to steal their subscribers, and while I really like the game, I dont think it would appeal to the "average WoW player".  I think FFXIV will do well enough with people who arent satisfied with WoW.  It could draw in a fair amount of everquest fans.

I think you guys are forgetting that there is absolutley 0 pvp in this game as of now (and the way i understand even at launch.) PvP is a must for a lot of WoW players, i'd say maybe half or even less then half of WoW consist of PvE-ONLY players.. You're not gonna get that high of a sub base for a pve-only game, FFXI is testament to that.. They waited way to long to implement pvp and the population suffered because of it.

personal pref : I would hope they keep PVP out of it, as the type of community it brings in is "lets say different" from your PVE'ers.

If i want PVP i go play BC2 or TF2.

Sadly I don't think S.E learned anything from FFXI. The same problems, same mistakes. From what I have been reading about from the Closed testing. Some of these issues were pointed out months ago. Which is tupical of S.E and how they approach their games.

    FFXI = Ps2 Design & limitations

    FFXIV = Ps3 Design &  limitations

It won't be a threat to WoW, its way to performance hungry, and many players of WoW don't have the PC to start FFXIV, and i guess almost noone will buy a new PC for FFXIV

I think that the only game that will give WoW a run for it's money is Guild Wars 2. They had 6 million boxes sold to GW1 and I figure at least half of those 6 million will try GW2.

And there's many ppl like me that never played GW1 but are planning on trying GW2.

I don't think it will be a WoW killer and I can't believe people still make posts like this after all this time, lol. As far as the game goes I'm actually enjoying most of it and I'm not really a fan of FF. I don't have the lag issues people are referring to and I have everything maxed but we all are running different PC's so that's to be expected. I am surprised at some of the responses here acting as if this beta is supposed to be a fully polished final product. I've played many betas and none of them even at this stage were fully pollished.

I do have a few things I'm having a hard time getting past such as no jumping (say what you will I don't care) and yes the UI is a little clunky and some things could be implemented better. You have to remember though there is still time to change things and those are changes that can be made although I won't hold my breath. :P

I admire your spunk, grasshopper!  One, WoW will be six years old in November.  It will be celebrating it's 6th birthday with their latest expansion, Cat.   Two.  Every time Blizzard releases an expansion, the game grows with a few more million concurrent subscribers.  I don't see that changing any time soon.  Three.  All I keep hearing is that PC controls suck for FFIV.  Four.  What do you mean it's still beta?  Please realize that the game you see now in open beta is the game you'll see on the 22nd, with a patch.  I've been gaming for over a decade and the one thing I know is there has never been a "miracle patch" on launch day that fixed what most people are complaining about from beta on a game.

Anyway, I wish FFIV the best of luck with it's launch.

Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:

"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."

ThIs game is not noob friendly... it wont give WoW a run only because a lot of people are impaitent, and will quit before they even get going.

Look at all of them raging about quitting the game because the STRESS TEST caused teh servers to go down, everything in this game is great, but it is also difficult, and i dont think people will put in the effort.

What this game doesnt do, and i kind of think it should is, hold your hand, it doesnt tell you what to do next, you actually have to talk to npc on your own to find quests, objectives,w hat to do next, you actually have to explore to find stuff, there is some guidance, but the bulk of the game requires you to be willing to explore and discover.

People that are too pig headed to realize open beta is supposed to be a test to hammer the login servers, crash the game and pretty much wear outt the system as much as possible inorder to prepare for launch.

I'm not a fan of WoW, but I'll tell you straight off that FInal Fantasy XIV isn't even going to threaten WoW for pennies. World of Warcraft has an established core of players who aren't even really interested in your average MMORPG. On top of that, Final Fantasy XIV has placed itself in a very difficult bar to reach. Most WoW players have piss-poor computer systems, mom & pop store brands thrown together at your nearest Walmart.. Such machines cost less than $300 to make, and if you system isn't at least a $1000 game-rig then you're not touching Final Fantasy XIV.

The first Month of Final Fantasy XIV will look great for the company. Lots of huge sales, and it'll look like the MMO is a huge hit. Within a few months, those numbers would have gone away - because the game itself would have bumped off many players just by graphics alone. Even worse, you can't Resale Final Fantasy XIV like you could FF13 - so people are going to be extremely angry.

This is true for computer sales, but I doubt it will be the case for PS3 sales. The only issue the game really has is to have nice graphics you have to have a good computer. Now if you don't mind playing on the lowest settings my friend is playing fine on his 2 year old notebook that wasn't even made for gaming. The game itself is awesome, but I must say this beta is done very poorly.

Playstation 3 sales and numbers don't come into the conversation until next year. We're still not exactly sure if they'll release it on March as they say.

i don't  get it why you cry so much about system req.

My rig is more than 2 years old and can run this game on high just fine  (1680x1050 resolution)

Most gamers probably have way better comp than i do so i don't see the problem here.

In terms of gameplay and presentation, FF XIV is almost certainly better than WoW in just about every imaginable way... but it's going to take more than that to beat WoW's extremely low technical requirements and overzealous fanbase. If Square continues to release content for the game and give people a reason to connect socially, then it does have the potential to become the premier MMO a few years down the line. Otherwise I don't see it getting any bigger than FFXI.

No it wont even phase wow and ill tell you why:

    1) Its still a niche game

    2) majority of wow type gamers are going to write it off because its menu based.

    3) No Jumping

    4) Its not nor will be more action based ( Hotbar spamming)

    5) A lot of people are going to be lost, from the couple hours I played I saw no hand holding, and no flashing ! or ?.

    6) suposidly still a big group focus.

and all this is coming from a ffxiv fanboy. Thankfully this is a different type game because I personally hate what the mmo genre has turned to. This game is a last hope for a group of gamers. If somebody hates it, just move on. everybody has differnt tastes and ffxiv is not going to taste very good to the mainstream mmo market.

Waiting for:EQ-Next, ArcheAge (not so much anymore)
    Now Playing: N/A
    Worst MMO: FFXIV
    Favorite MMO: FFXI
