You are right when you say that sites will happily handle this many users, but not when its this many users spamming refresh so quickly...

What website can you think of that suffers so many people literally in the space of a second trying to get access? You never have to spam google/itunes etc because they have server clusters handling your queriues scattered across the globe.... right now there are several thousand people trying to rape a small server group at once..

    No wonder they shut down!!

This is no reflection on the game or company, just a physical restriction on data flow!

(has to be said that posting here is a great way to take my mind of of my f5 button =D )

so whats keeping them from spreading out the application process over multiple days? nothing but ignorance. they could have kept this from happening, its obvious the wow fanboys have nothing on final fantasy ones, which i am a fan, but not a fanboi, i was playing final fantasy before most of you were born, the real fans started with FF 1 and quit when it became an emo wank fest.

i quit buying them after final fantasy 4. rented 7.  rented 13, made it halfway. sorry,  but paradigms are just ways to take control away from my character, i should be able to select a heal spell not have to change my whole team format and then hope it casts heal in time, relying on AI, is fail.

If they're well aware of the fact that they'll have a huge load of people clogging their servers, they should prepare accordingly in whatever fashion they could.

It's not much different than cable internet company, which operates in the town with the largest university in the state, and its propensity to be practically unusable between the hours of 5 PM and 12:00 AM.

What makes you think this application won't be open tomorrow or the next day?

What on earth has your devotion to early FF titles got to do with your beta access?

If you played FF1, then it was either the 1987 Japan version or the 1990 US version.. But I have to assume seeing as you played FF2, it was the Japanese verion released in 1988 and FFIII wasnt release to the west until a version was made for the DS in 2006.............

This makes you at LEAST 26 years of age (unless you were incredibly bright and played RPG games before the age of 3...) and as such would have expected more from a mature gamer.

Why bring WOW into this? nothing in this thread so far has suggested anything of the like?!

bah...cant get to login screen at the launcher either :P... Its using the same system as the website - so that part is down 95% of the time too :P

ok thats a fair point! But if a University can be excused for droppng the ball on a daily basis, should SE be shot in the face for doing it once?

Maybe my extreme level of insobriety is clouding my judgement, but come on.... give them a chance!

You can try and prepare all you want, but when you've got thousands of users trying to access the same servers, at the very same exact moment, it's going to cause problems.

It's not the university internet.  I live in an apartment and pay 60 dollars a month for a 10mb cable connection, which has only worked properly for the first two days in which I have had it.

Believe me, if there was an alternative to that awful service I would take it.  Fortunately, there are tons of other MMORPGs on the market.  Of course, I'm not saying I plan on not playing FFXIV on account of open beta issues, but before I drop fifty dollars on a game with known performance issues, I'd love to take it on a test run, and of course, these issues coupled with the first delay and the awful downloader have left a bad taste in my mouth.

And awesome, upon finally successfully logging in, I am informed I must state my country of residence and accept SE's "new" terms of service agreement.  Of course, upon attempting to do that, I'm greated with more timeout errors.

got my code, just trying to get into the account management.

1 hour 15 mins from the announced time. im actually impressed!

  • mmjarecmmjarec Member Posts: 65

i ment fanbois really have no right to be hateful, because you are in fact, lesser fans than those of us who have played them since the very first one.

secondly, if they allowed so many applications per day, the servers wouldnt be bogged and everyone would be able to get in, just not all at once. you didnt understand my point, or didnt exert enough brainpower to try to understand what i was saying.

let 300 people in per hour, problem solved, it might take a while, but better than 50 people getting in and the rest stuck on error pages.

after the mid 90s final fantasy series changed when it went to playstation, dunno if it was too much tampering but the original dynamics and feel were completely gone, the first two were my favorite, typical fantasy settings, with classes and jobs. now they either have one or the other or are tinkered with into being stupid. IE, gunswords, lame.. the esper idea worked well with three and with 4 the jobs while abundant, most of them were stupid. i just felt like saying, since it has nothing to do with online and i'm waiting. i'm spilling.. so what.
