Slow data streaming causing lag/graphics problems - potential fix

DibdabsDibdabs Member RarePosts: 3,203

Hi All.  I've just started playing and the game is shot to hell for me, as well as a friend of mine.  We start to play and while there may be mobs and npcs near me, if I move off and return they're gone.  Sometimes objects on the ground are missing, like the ore in Timirous Deep which you have to gather - they never showed up at all for ages, then all of a sudden there they were.

We both have firewalls configured, latest graphic drivers, DirectX, etc.  My system is rather average, and I wondered if that was the problem, but my friend's system is a quad-core gaming rig and he has the same problem.

TIA

Or better, try the error checking described here, much faster and I think even safer: http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/posts/list.m?start=15&topic_id=484813&#5395015

Thanks very much - I'll give that a try.  image

EDIT:  Since the link was kindly posted for me in this thread, the topic on the Sony forum has vanished, so here's the gist of it:-

Create a new shortcut to the everquest2.exe, right-click it, select PROPERTIES and in the TARGET box, type in a space just after the last " and then paste this...

    cl_forceDBCRCRecalc true; cl_resource_address http://eq2.patch.station.sony.com/patch/eq2/assets/live/

This bypasses the usual Launcher and will just take you to a Login window for the game, and the streaming data seems to have speeded up somewhat.

I found out what was really slowing the game, and my Internet, down!  My antivirus/firewall software has a Webguard feature that scans downloaded data, and of course the streaming data comes via a URL, which was listed in the command added to the launcher icon, namely:-

    http://eq2.patch.station.sony.com/patch/eq2/assets/live/

As soon as I turned off Webguard, by way of a test, I noticed a significant improvement in game performance and graphics.  I've set permissions for Webguard to allow this URL and so far things are looking good!
