Are you watching the same stream as me?

They were going at the Shaterer with 20+ Charr, later he ran into a some random people in a boss fight and afterwards in the event with the ogre he resurected some player who was running through the same area...

If I'm not mistaken, this event/demo is run by a GM. He is insta porting to locations (For demonstration purposes) which we as normal players will not have ingame to my understanding.

But things could change I suppose. :)

ok , I share a different opinion as you.  It's not that impressive.

So fast travelling is now instancing ?

Well that live demo just now was quite awesome indeed.

I couldn't see that the video quality is not that great honestly, and he is explaining it in German i think.

Didn't see the shaterer part. It was more of the Charr/warrior.

Why don't you all learn german...

It stated clearly in german that they are using GM tools to jump all over the place..  And offcourse things like teleporting all over the map requires loading times...

The open world is not instanced and all bosses are not in instances but in the open world. Like for example the dragon.

They will only use instances of these zones for your own personal story quests.  If you zone like in WoW there will be no loading times, or in the worst case minimal loading times but no loadingscreens.

Videofeed quality isn't great, I'm hoping to see some higher quality videos later on.

I did catch the second time a large group of players was fighting the Shatterer dragon, it looked great indeed.

Also, for those doubting it, I saw the playtester roaming around in a persistent, open world, encountering other players all around just like any other MMO, so no, it'll not be instanced as GW.

Me and most people probably don't have the same opinion as you, since we already talked that map travel doesnt mean there are instances, just some points where we can travel to.... In fact, you do the same thing in SWTOR forum, but ok, it is your opinion after all.

About the gameplay, I loved it. It shows some cross skill combos, great graphics and dynamic gameplay, another dynamic event completely unrelated to the Shaterer (protect a boar while going to somewhere I think? or something like that... don't know yet), get back to the shaterer, we see the shaterer runaway to the sky (instead of dying) and we see how the downed state works. And there really are "fireworks" with all the skills and graphics in the game, something most games miss or can't compare to this one.

What do I do in the swtor forums?   Of course I am not happy with space, but I like what I have seen of the swtor ground game.

I was not impressed with the live stream of the charr character. From what I was watching it did look like it may be instanced. Get off my back please.

I thought the multiplayer video where they were fighting that "shaterer" guy with the wind blowing around him was actually quite stunning.

That videolink higher up in the thread isn't the Shatterer, but an earth elemental that is being summoned by some centaur shaman, this takes place in the human L1 area of the demo.

The Shatterer is a dragon, the one you can also see at the end of the last GW2 demo, and it can be found in the L47 Charr area of the demo.

But agreed, both boss fights, against the earth elemental and the Shatterer dragon look awe inspiring image I hope there'll be some more higher quality demo videos put online, so far I like what I've seen.

It's this epic and its low level stuff. Can't wait to see high level gameplay and PvP.

Oh, btw, here's an overlay map that show the GW maps compared with GW2.

Plucked it from GW2Guru, several people went through the trouble of composing a general map from the images shown in the Charr area demo.

    GW2 Ascalon map

From this can be found out that Steeleye Span, the Charr canon fortress is built upon the ruins of Fort Ranik, you can also see the remains of the Wall.

Neither did I. Yap, I agree with you. We can see how a true invasion works, instead of the standard (and now i can call classic) "invasion is happening but they are waiting for you outside" from all the other mmorpgs xD

If you're referring to me, I was talking about the live stream where the Shaterer really was fighting, I just came to the forum to warn about it. If not, my fault then. ^^

Probably better video quality will be available quickly, or at least at the end of the day.

  • MMO.MaverickMMO.Maverick Member CommonPosts: 7,619

Heh, no, I was replying on the poster before me, Sungodra.

Thanks for that earlier warning, btw, I missed the first time they showed attacking the dragon but was in time to see them show some roaming around in the area and the second attack on the dragon, looked awesome image

However, that is impractical and very difficult to pull off. And before someone mentions OnLive: all of their "servers" are basically render farms. Games such as Eve and the like tend to not suffer from this as much, but that is because the content even between two large sections of the game utilizes the same models and textures. This means far less loading that must be done in the background, as well as releasing of resources.

This ^^. In case ppl haven't noticed, the player is doing map travel, that's why there is the loading -.- . You see, he has done "zoom out to map --> choose a place ---> Teleport? Yes" and then loading screen. Every game with map travel or teleport has it, and its a better way to go meet your friends instead of going on foot from one point of the city to the other, Because the city really is HUGE and probably there are Events appearing in the city too that need to be loaded, or there will be more bugs and more lag. If you walk around slowly, those events can be loaded slowly, but if you use travel there must be some kind of load don't you think? We don't know how it will really work outside the cities yet, we will have to wait and see.

No shit, they have to load resources when they teleport... You're telling me that A) teleporting will not be in game? B) When the character moves up to a door at 4:15, then gets an option dialog to enter, WITH A 10+ SEC LOADING SCREEN, that is a GM "ability"?

    Oh well...

There are some parts of the city that are instanced (like your house). In those areas you can play out your personal storyline missions.

    omg people

Its not heavily instanced, its something called fast travelling, so you dont get bored walking 15 miles by foot.

It is Persistent, with the exception of some places like dungeons/personal story/housing.

    I missed the live stream?!

Anyway, It's hard to believe this would be heavily instanced when the devs clearly stated it wasn't going to be atleast not as heavy as GW1. Loading during map travel is normal and does not automatically equate to instancing take for example Star Wars Galaxies. When you take the shuttle to a remote part of the world, you'll experience a loading screen before you see everything and that game is virtually persistent.

Playing now: Cities: Skyline / Ori and the Blind Forest / Banished

  • charlionfirecharlionfire Member Posts: 166

So, just check the "ranger" video in this forum.

Clearly not seamless from the outdoor zone into the city. Maybe not the biggest thing to be bothered about, but still a fact. As far as map travel goes, sure, you need loading screens. Perhaps that is better than running through the dynamic world? Not sure....
