Hello Darkariel.  I would suggest giving Ashen Empires a serious look (www.ashenempires.com) Graphics are Isometric rather than 3D.  I was playing on a 266 PII system with 8 meg vid card and 196 mb of RAM for over a year before I upgraded my own machine..  I’d also suggest reading recent reviews of this game as well as the post in the main thread about Ashen Empires on this forum for more player input then decide.  The client is a free download and there is also a free evaluation period.  Per month cost is only $8.95 if you decide to stay on.

For an old computer only play free games. Dont get ripped off.

www.onrpg.com    has lots of free ones to try. Good luck :)

For an old machine like you're describing, I would recommend Tibia. It's a free game with some pay elements in it. The URL for it is this http://www.tibia.com/home/index.php?subtopic=news. It has a hug e community and many servers to choose from.

id suggest UO i used to play it on a pentium 133Mhz when it first came out.

Still a monthly fee involved but a lot of people still play and its a fun game...

Theres a lot of games that will run on your machine...

Try Ashen Empires. Its a good game that doesn't require the latest video drivers. It can still be played on a 56k modem. I think you'll like the game.

7 day free trial and 8.95/mo if you like it.

Check out the boards on the community link on the main web page. Post in the 'Newbie" thread and ask for some help. We'd be glad to help you get started.

    Peace

Actually you can download a free trial of UO and then go grab a mod for the launcher that will let you use any number of free shards out there that are run by players. Many of which are pre-"split" and are a LOT more fun than the 'new' UO.

    And, it's free :)

Almost definitely UO. It's an awesome, deep, fun, popular--but flawed game (especially in the aesthetics department). Still its goods should seriously outweigh its bads when you have an old computer. :)

  • As a few other people have mentioned in this thread, I would recommend Ashen Empires (www.ashenempires.com)

Yes, I do play this game for all the spammers out there that feed off AE player's posts.

But why would I play a game that was crappy with a bad gameplay?

At least give it a try, 7-day free trial. Graphics aren't the best but the gameplay is one that will keep you playing :)

Need help ingame, PM me, character name Paladin on Heroes server. Hope to see you playing soon :)

Dont fall for the AE spammers. They were told to come here on their forums. The game will die if they dont trick people into playing it. Anyway runescape is way better then it. Might be able to play knight online It is free
  • RudnocRudnoc Member Posts: 208

No way, all the ones listed here are not worth it. Isometric games aren't worth paying for. You got go 3D, Isometric died with the 486.

    Go play Asheron's Call. http://ac.turbinegames.com/

  • LOL Psyklon, WTF do you have against Ashen Empires?

We were not told to come here or else the game would die. Ashen Empire's player base is already GROWING, but we thought if we told people about the games in here, you know, an MMORPG forum, a few more people might decide to join. + How can we trick people into playing it? They get a 7-day free trial anyways, so if they don't like it, they don't need to pay.

Also, big update coming soon (in beta-testing at the moment), so the graphics are getting improved in that (not to 3D but more refined graphics)

Please, no one listen to Pysklon, he has an anger problem or something considering he is so against Ashen Empires for no reason.

All I can say is, with your computer specs... I wouldn't be wasting my time on a Isometric games like rudnoc says. If you lke them type, you are better off playing Wyvern, it is free. But if you want a awesome experience and a life time of memories of great adventures and questing, you got to go play Asheron's Call. I have played it ever since Feb 14th 2000 and even with all the newer MMORPGS out I still come back to AC. I have even played EQ2 and WoW. I left EQ2 for WoW right after Christmas and I just uninstalled WoW 2 weeks ago to go back to AC: Dark Majesty. Not AC2 ming you but AC1 which is also known as ACDM. Infact AC is getting a resolution patch that will take the game from 16bit color to 32 bit color. I am not sure but I am almost positive you will still be able to play it just at a lower setting. Which I am sure after you play AC for a while, you will be willing to pump out some minor bucks to upgrade enough to see AC at irs best. Plus with the new requirements I am sure yo could buy a computer that will cost you no more than 200 bucks just to play it at full quality hehehe.

For some cool screenies go here.  http://acvault.ign.com/screenshots/   Just go there and select a category you would like to see screenies of and have fun. Oh, bTW, you can download the game off the net or wait for the new Expansion which will be out on May 11th 2005 when it will be in stores.

At the risk of being flamed...

My son got me to start playing ashen empires and the reason he chose that game is he was playing on a computer slightly older than the one you are talking about.  Well it wasn't older just less ram.  He had noproblems running the game and like others have said it has a 7 day free trial I would give it a shot you have nothing to lose.

You missed the whole point about being able to play UO for $0.00 didn't you?

    1) Download free trial
    2) Google Search for UO Player Shards
    3) Download Launcher Mod
    4) Play UO on FREE player shards (there are hundreds of them, some with more players than the actual game servers have)

    VOILA
    Absolutely FREE MMORPG

You folks poo-pooing Isometric games obviously didn't read the specs for his system: he's only got a 16mb Video Card and only 128mb of RAM. AC will run cludgy on that system. Heck even DAOC may have a tough time on it.

On top of that, I Played AC for about 3-4 months back when it came out...
Wasn't impressed. The graphics are nice but the game mechanics were clunky and the 'guild' system leaves MUCH to be desired. UO is much better, gameplay wise, though AC's graphics blow it to hell and gone.

From what I understand it hasn't changed much from the mechanics back then. It was "ok" as far as MMO's go. And it's certainly got a decent following. But there are better MMO's out there. As far as variety, skill system, etc... UO is the best out there to this day. It's graphics suck though. But hey, you can play it free. And it's PVP is, hands down, still the best out there.

Now if you insist on a 3D MMO that won't kill your system? You could try DAOC, it's got quality graphics, good PVP(RVR) and a solid playerbase. I'd stay away from anything newer though as your system will be brought to its' knees by most 'modern' games. Even DAOC will be kind of hard on it. You'll want to avoid large crowds for sure.

With only a 16mb Video Card I'd recommend staying away from 3d games as much as possible. If all you have is a PCI slot for video you can try to find an old GeForce 2 or 3 for PCI (can probably pick one up for $20). That would allow you a lot more options.

Thats not a bad gaming rig, not bad at all. You can play quite a few games on there but, not at the full spectrum that they recommend. Runescape is good if you feel that graphics aren't everything and overall gameplay, community and the other factors that are implemented. UO (Ultima Online) classic and still addictive. In fact any other games that don't take a lot of juice to run. Like Guild Wars you need a good graphic card to run at a moderate state.

Those are some free ones that you might be able to run on your computer..out of all those i reccomend maple story, or if you don't like maple story then i would just go ahead and play on a free ultima online shard.

Ultima online hands down. Will run fine on your computer. Do a search for uogateway after you find a copy of it online. Those are free shards. Some are decent, read the reviews on them before you decide which one you'd like.
