Sound Effects

tharkthark Member UncommonPosts: 1,188

Whats up with the super annoying footstep sound in AION ...

Sounds from pigs, birds and small animals seem very bad and unrealistic and produce a loud ticking sorta sound !!

Wait until you hear the sound for melee crits. For as nice as the graphics and in game music(some) are the sound fx and ambient sounds are horrifyingly bad.

  • tharkthark Member UncommonPosts: 1,188

I can't understand the reason behind the sounds of the animal footsteps, I can understand if it has been missed in the testing process ..

But as I hear these footsteps alot in the first village in Poeta I must come to the conclusion someone must have thought these footstep sounds are ok to listen to for the entire time you spend in the village selling your loot etc ..

These animals would hardly produce any footstep sounds at all, atleast not loud enough for us to hear it like this..Now you hear them in the entire village...

I can't tolerate the combat or ambient SFX, so they are always disabled. I do agree though, and I'm surprised more people don't  complain. It was brought up during beta several times, but nothing was done. Like I said, for such good graphics and production value the SFX are horrifyingly bad.

I think it's because most people don't consider it that important. I do love good music and sound effects, but it's not a game-breaker to turn them off and put on music you like!

Please..It's very much a gamebreaker when it becomes painful to stand in one area for longer periods than a a few minutes..

The Poeta Village is a great example of this..And you have to stand there, atleast a few minutes..

Yes me and my girlfriend actually had to flee that place because of the annoying ticking/plucking sound that never stopped..

And NO disable the sound is NOT an option ..Not all the sounds are bad..But these are borderlining bugs..

my god you guys will find anything to complain about.  If you really hate the sounds so much then do not play. They are not THAT bad,  i didnt even notice then that much.  Oh, and i love the way crit hits sound,  makes me sound like im actually doing dmg when it happens.

Yeah I have to agree the sound effects are not THAT bad, I understand they aren't the best and defiantly could be better. At the same time though the game is fun the visual effects are awesome, the flying is cool, the armor looks neat and the overall fun is awesome! I wouldn't count to much off for sound effects.

I think you missed the "most people" and the "I" in my post. Sure it's a game-breaker for some, but not for most people, including myself, thus why more people don't complain.

Hell If I made a list of things NCwest has to improve on / fix, I don't think these little annoying sound effects would even cross my mind to make it on this list (which is a giant one). That's how "game-breaking" this is for me.

well, I suppose it goes to show you how people hone in on details that they hate.

    I never even noticed them.

Then again, I live in a city where there are all sorts of background noises and you learn to filter them out quite naturally.

Perhaps if you turned the sound effects down just a notch or two they would be too faint to notice.

Look..I didnt't write this to piss off some fans of AION, overall I like AION, It reminds me of EQ2 specially the grouping portion of the game , wich I feel is great..

And sure It is a somewhat small issue, but my question was how the developers have overlocked this issue as everything else seem's very well done, the music all other sounds so far and graphics is also well done..

Yes,you learn to filter "natural sounds" ea in a city, but these sounds aint natural, maybe you didnt play with the volume high enough and missed them, but I promise you there is no WAY in hell you woudn't have noticed them unless you actually didnt have any or very very low sound effects on..

The sounds I talk about is just when there is "small animals" pigs, pidgeons, chickens etc and yeah that elder tree in Poeta had some small shrooms that also created the sound I'm talking about...

Now it just seem like i stepped on someones toes..Sorry for that !!

This must be a troll. I've never heard anyone complain so much about something that nobody else has complained about before. I hear complaints about the voice overs but not this. I don't get it.

I know the sounds you're referring too and simply it's not enough to flame a game over. The sound effects are easily look passed considering you shouldn't been spending that long in a starter zone anyways. Just look passed it and enjoy the other things AION has to offer.

Well, if you see an SM, Gladiator, Ranger, Sorcerer killing chickens and other stuff in villages.. Its probably me that is annoyed by the sound of these creatures. :)

There were complaints all throughout beta. Mainly about the crit sound and the loud clomping when players walked over hard surfaces. I know the first time I landed a crit and heard the sound I was a bit shocked. It's even worse in a group full of people. Sounds like a bad drum machine. It's not game breaking for me as I turn off combat SFX.

not my videos but you get the idea .

I know right. The music is exceptionally beautiful, but then the constant retarded sound effects really distract from the game. I have to turn off ambiance all together also. Personally I keep the volume really low, because while I play I'm watching videos, and DVDs. Like someone said it's not really that important unless I'm trying to play with the sound up.

I think you just made way more of my post than was necessary.

did I sound pissed? did I sound miffed? Or did you somehow imbue what I said with something else?

well, I suppose it goes to show you how people hone in on details that they hate.

Acknowledging that people tend to notice certain things and can be very sensitive to them.

    I never even noticed them.

Stating that i never noticed them. either they became part of the sound tapestry for me or my sound was down low enough not to notice them. Though listening to those videos I found it to be easily filtered out.

Then again, I live in a city where there are all sorts of background noises and you learn to filter them out quite naturally.

Indicating that I live in a city where there are a lot of different sounds going on at once and that one learns to filter them out naturally. Doesn't matter what the sounds are.

Perhaps if you turned the sound effects down just a notch or two they would be too faint to notice.

    Suggestion to help you out.

what more can I say? So "no" no toes stepped on. I meant every word as I wrote it. No more no less.

edit: listening to those videos I can safely stick with my original post. Didn't notice them at all and wouldn't have noticed them even with my sound was up more.

We have diffrent opinions regarding this issue, let's leave it at that !

And as evidently shown in this thread there are others that agrees with me :)
