There are no good ones currently out that aren't graphically outdated. The last real good one was Asheron's Call. Shadowbane tried but failed. They've only gotten worse since, Darkfall especially.

Asheron's Call was not a PvP game. It was a PvE game with a tacked on PvP server.
The last great PvP game was Dark Age of Camelot, though Darkfall is coming close to passing it. Darkfall is easily better than SB or AC
For me, PvP is all about smooth combat, and the abilty to control your character and camera exactly as you wish. = WoW.
Some other games have better PvP systems than WoW, but no game can touch WoW's combat fluidity.
Why do some hardcore fanboys keep claiming this?:WoW contols exactly like all the dozen other pre WoW and post WoW MMOs I've played, and its combat is pretty terrible. No reaction animations or kinetic feel to combat.
If you want good solid combat that almost feels twitch, you have Dark Age of Camelot.
The last time I had fun in a PVP focused MMO was WAR. Before that, AoC during launch -- only because it was total chaos and fun to be a part of.
Aion, which is what I'm currently playing, is not PVP focused. Once people hit a certain rank they actually avoid PVP and opt to PVE for PVP progression. Some players do this exclusively. It's a wonky setup. I could go on forever about their ass backwards system.
I'm trying EVE, and still too new to get my feet wet in PVP, but I'm hoping that I'll get there soon.

Hardcore fanboy? I haven't played WoW in over a year. Why do some hardcore WoW haters have to jump down your throat when you say that any single aspect of WoW is good?

Because they like to take things that aren't unique features to WoW and praise WoW for having them. They act like WoW invented the universe. "First game to have class specializations!" "First game to have instances!" "First game to have raids!" "First game to have custom UI!" "First game to have 'tight' controls!"
Im having fun leveling up a medic in Global Agenda. All I have done is the Mercenary PvP missions. Bought some armor patches to buff up my armor. Trained all into healer and having a blast. Win about 75% of the time i think.
only problem with aion is the melee aerial combat , but after some time you should learn how to avoid it I can still kill some rangers and mages in abyss, controls in aion and camera are good enough like all the others games out there no game make anything diferent, and really if anyone said WoW have a good combat system you are NOT a PVP gamer, just saying. Only thing WoW really do is make you look good with uber equips if you grind a lot in raid doing the same script every single time
play other games have several F2P there just test then and take note of what is the same.
for me good pvp games
AION
RFOnline (pre F2P era now is just who pay more for equips)it also have 3 factions fighting each other
dark age of camelot
Lineage 2
some F2P games have good pvp features but since its win who pays the most I don't even bother to write then here, hell I don't even make any F2P my main game.
take notice all of my good pvp games is group vs group, 1 uber vs many is not pvp(be it with hacks or CS items), ganks is part of the game, and anyone out there who want to pvp alone and cry because die a lot should go to a game with only PvE it will save you some stress.
I would have to agree with this poster the most but I enjoy Darkfall the most of the 3 that was mentioned. DAoC is getting too old and EVE is great but a futuristic game and very 3rd person so it cannot satisfy every want that you may have but will fill a niche that others will not.
Darkfall is the funnest PVP that I have come across by far but it is not often. The only one that is not safe anywhere and player-skill with risk vs reward is the primary factor (as well as how long you play of course because it is an MMORPG). I must warn you with the free-trial for this one because it usually takes a couple months before you fall in love with the game if you ever do. Its UI is more like Oblivion and games from the Elder Scroll Series than any other MMO which made me give it a shot.
AoC is a fun game but I wouldn't get it for primarily PVP content as the PVP is actually kind of shitty but is moderately fun but you get sick of it fast, there is no death penalty, and you may end up deciding to reroll because the class that you chose feels gimped (you may not find this out until after you get far in, in which case you would end up rerolling and having to go through the same instanced quest-line . ..)
Global Agenda was mentioned and I like that one as well but everyone who plays it will be disappointed with at least one big thing that matters . .. it isnt P2P so no hurt in trying the free-trial. It seems that it is mostly a aiming at the friendly robot or a person that you are healing or doing AOE damage . .. so it is not very hard and lacks content that a P2P may provide.
Guildwars is my 2nd choice for funnest PVP MMORPG because you can come up with totally unique builds that work that nobody else uses because you can only take 8 skills/spells into combat out of hundreds (thousands?) to chose from. This game is very worth the money because it is F2P once you buy it and there is no grind if you are there for PVP and you can join combat immediately.
Did I mention that I play games for PVP primarily? From my choices you can tell that I do. No single game can give me everything that I want but I have had the most fun in Darkfall.

Aion = autofacing is a joke, aerial combat failed, poor camera control -
LOL? only thing that is wrong with aion pvp is the game is very gear depended and pvp works best group vs group.
air combat works fine, donno what this auto faceing crap is.... camera works fine learn how to set it up and use.
Aion has some pretty nice pvp once you have the gear.
Auto facing is when your character can be turned around staring at a wall. And simply by having an enemy selected, when you push a skill button, your character will automatically turn around and use the skill while you have your hand in a bag of potato chips. Just my opinion I suppose, but I think that sucks.
Let me guess you play a ranged class? Yeah aerial combat is awesome!
I have to say that the autofacing issue in Aion does sound rather poor. But I would also say 'don't do pvp while eating potato chips, it is hazardous to both your offline and online health.'

This.
Fond memories of DAoC, a real DAoC 2 would have been awsome (not WAR)

Aion = autofacing is a joke, aerial combat failed, poor camera control
AoC = I like the combo and free swining system but don't like being locked into an animation as melee (2nd best to WoW tho IMO)
LotRO = Best PvE game, worst PvP game
Allods = Feels pretty clunky, the combat animations are poor. Has nice character control however.
WAR = Fun PvP right from level 1, combat is pretty smooth for casters but as melee, it's clunky and awkward.
Lineage2 = Best PvP system but character control is poor, also has autofacing
Never played EVE or Darkfall.

I quite liked the scenario and zone bash set up for pvp in WoW. But the combat UI, animations and control sysytem were nothing to write home about.
Id say global agenda i got it about 5 days ago and im loveing the pvp so far very fast paced and lots of diffrent kinds of missions.

Each claim more insane than the last.
