It all depends on which parts you want to be better but....

    Age of Conan

    Lord of the Rings Online

    City of Heroes/ Villians

    Aion

    Champions Online

    Everquest 2

    DDO

And I am sure there are others depending on what you want.

Dungeons and  Dragons Online is my second best to WoW.  I played it about two years ago, and it great. But :

1 You have to like grouping

2 The game went free to play, this is good and bad.  First its free, with a cash shop.  The game only has 20 levels, it takes a long time to level.  You can play it to level 5 before you should buy anything, and you don't even have to do that.  However If you like it I would just recommend paying the monthly sub, as to the Adventure packs.

Don't let anyone talk you into EQ2, It's a rich full game, with lots to do. It has an ok size population, but they are all in clicks, most new players will be fooled for a few weeks before they realize that, you have to play this game solo.

For a question like this "I doubt you can get a good answer". Since every user is subjective in his opinions and mentiones "titles he likes" - which probably you won't. There are tons of MMORPGS better then WoW - since WoW was never a good MMORPS to beging with ( i could say) - but that's just my opinion. Milions of WoW fans coul contradicte me, and from their point of view they have the right answer...

So what you could do is this:

    - go here -> http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm

    - click on "All Games" than "rating/hype"

    - and now, simply "TRY THEM"

You could make a selection based on what you expect from a MMO like Genre (Fantasy, Sci-Fi, etc),  date realesed... and you could also click on "Released or Beta" instead of "All Games" - since that way, you could avoid those in development.

Well, WoW is just a simple version of already existing MMORPGs. If you want games similar to WoW but more advanced/deeper/better there's a long list. EverQuest 2, Lord of the Rings Online to name two.

If you want MMOs that are different but far deeper and more interesting than WoW there's Eve, Darkfall, Dark Age of Camelot

IF WoW is your first MMO you may want to try some different free to play games to get a better feel for what is out there at no risk. I don't have any good suggestions because I don't know what you are looking for, everyone else has mentioned the top pay to plays.

Thats a really good list except for Champions which is no where close to the other games listed.

Global agenda is on sale now and have removed the monthly sub so its a good deal aswell.

    If WoW = The Beatles
    and WAR = Led Zeppelin
    Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

Warhammer Online isn't terrible.   And if you are into space trader games, then  Eve is worth looking at...

My advice is find a few FTP games and Subscription games that have free trials and play a few different games before settling into one...

Not alot out there for the bored WoW fan really ... I myself am just taking a break from the genre playing some RTS and console titles while I wait for the next couple of big releases (SW:TOR,  Tera, FFXIV)

I am sure i will be right back to WoW after cataclysm is released however ... until I again get bored of grinding out epics.

Wait for The Old Republic. If you don't like Star Wars, then wait for Cataclysm.

    true though

I heard the makers of it are releasing a new set of maps for it, but you have to beat normal before hard and the last 10 bosses are only released 1 per every 2 weeks...

GIven the sheer number of MMORPG options out there, your question was too overbroad to be answered. Use the "Game List" feature here at MMORPG.com and start refining your question by process of elimination.

There are lots of "free" games out there you can try to experiment to help you decide what aspects you like and which things you'd rather not have.

Good luck, and have fun in Azeroth again in a few months. They always go back.

Ah some good old WoW bashing... don't see that much here.

Everything is better then WoW Wotlk... Like they made WoW easy as fuck i remember in vanilla needed like 3-4  months to gear up in like some decent gear and u still wont be full epic if u are a bit unlucky...And in wotlk i needed 1 week to get full epic with decent gear to go and do even heroic 10/25 raids(yes i got alot of help from my guild).

Warhammer is decent play if u want to have zerg pvp type of game

EVE if u like space playstyle game

DDO its for RP maniacs mainly

Allods (decent game but with crap publishers) u can play but u need to grind 16 hours a day to afford raiding and shit or pay alot of money to afford the same thing xD

  • bastionixbastionix Member Posts: 547

Nothing xD. Really, I searched far and wide for a better game, but as far as MMO go, I couldn't find anything better.

    WHat's better is rather subjective.

What were your favorite parts of WOW? Listing that might help us point you in the direction of some similar MMOs.

    Team Fortress 2

Because the only game that can hope to bring something new to the MMO world at the moment is guild wars 2 and FFXIV.

None the less, here's what forums & sites can tell about good games:

    Answer these questions:

What does youtube say? Does it seem to be keyboard turning game, a point an click game? Does it fit your wants?

What does the game engine look like? Can you see people jumping, do the animations seem to work well together, does every character nearby look somewhat different (faces, not gearwise). If the game's engine doesn't even have a jump event programmed in it, or has everyone with a generic face except your character, it tells you right away that this game is going nowhere. It was programmed for quick money, not for a "long term adventure".  Perhaps an exception could be made for the jumping, but if there is no jumping, make sure the comany is a successful one before even trying!

When was the game released: if its been 4+ years, you'll be alone trying to catch up endgamers. You'll get bored and quit.

What is the game's rating: By the players only - From at least 5 sources.

    ****

Note that sites like MMORPG and such are PAID for with publicity. For example, AoC seems to be paying this site to remove negative comments about the game. You should visit several forums about the games AND the game's forums itself as well as view several reviews/ratings. If you ran a site and someone tells you: "Heres 30000$ to change that 6.5 to an 8.5" unless you are already rich, chances are, you wont complain, you will take the money, and up their rating. Behind every site is a site owner who is also human. It happens.

    ****

    - Can you read the forum? if not, theyre hiding unsatisfied customers

    - Does the forum even exist? Do you really want to play a game where the company doesn't even want you to post comments or questions that they might have to answer. No forum, don't play it.

    - Can you see negativity in the forums? Very important, no game is perfect, fat people complain for no reason. 0 negativity = comment filtering. Ask yourself this: Do you really want to invest time and money in online communism?

Can you phone the company? Look at the website, see if they have a phone number. If not, they want your money only, not your satisfaction.

Has the game recieved an update in the past year? Or did the company give up on it.

Is the game a greedfest instead of a funfest? Do you have to buy 10 expansions to be up to date?

If you are not satisfied with any of your answers, wait for one to come along. Sadly only 3 seem promising for now, the rest are quite on the risky side given there creators past (or lack thereof)

    GW2

    FFXIV

    SWTOR

Stick with WoW for your generic mmorpg

Go with Darkfall for an mmorpg with a balance of danger and excitement

If you like grouping, no MMO is better than WoW.  Playing other MMOs is like going back to the stone age when you're trying to find a group.  It just depends on what you want.

Not much worth a paid sub right now. The only two I'd bother to spend any money on are EVE or perhaps Age of Conan. That is if I was really bored. Everybody is passing time waiting for their MMO to come out.

I used to play WoW until a couple months back when i started playing EVE-Online. When it comes down to it it's your preference as to what you wanna play, I love spacey type sandbox games so finding EVE is like finding out i just inherited a buggatti veyron.

As for going back to WoW, made sure i can't so I gave my account away, ontop of that i frequently go to my old server forums and found out the guild i was in was hacked and disbanded resulting in a few ppl quitting too so if i did go back i would have to start over finding a new guild to build up with and I can't be assed to do that.

if you tired of WoW but looking for WoW+ or WoW(Remake style)

I would suggest ether going mutil-MMO-play, or trying out a F2P game until CAT comes out.

    My suggestions:

LoTRO (F2P) for PvP ++++ Warhammer Online (For the Faction vs Faction feel of WoW)

Allod Online (F2P MMO with very smooth gameplay. Similar to wow in some ways, but will be getting a update soon for NA servers)

Vanguard (For a new/or different experience feel.) + Warhammer (read above)

Allod (F2P) + Guild Wars (BtP) I hate recommending Guild Wars for a LF mmo, because its not a MMO, but lvling in Allod is slow, and the PvP in GW can give you some PvP action to do when you get tired of lvling in Allod Online.

thanks for all the information, i now, know that my question was very open. here is some of the game aspect that i love.  i love pve more then pvp.  i like direction in a game, and not being sent on a wild goose chase. i like group/ guild advenutes, but soloing is calming would say i like soloing more.  Wow is not something i want to return to, and borad of the same old stuff in the game,  i like new and exciting things.

hope this helps everyone to help me

thanks again for all the feedback this far

I have played WoW a little longer than you have( since Dec 2004). I do get tired of raid or die issues in WoW, so I take a break. I still jump into WoW (the holiday stuff / weekly progression raid/ a few matches).

Right now, I am currently playing AoC's expansion. AoC has a pretty good pve game atm. I also do some pvp in AoC once in awhile. EQ2 and Aion were also fun, but Aion got way too grindy for me.
