Title pretty much says it all.
I am currently scrounging around trying to find a game with a very strong Assassin/Rogue style class.
I am pretty reluctant to head back to WoW and Aion really wasn't my cup of tea, I liked Aion but the delay in using the skill and performing the animation made things a bit too sloppy for me.
WoW was probably my favorite so far, at least post SWG, but I really don't like the direction they have taken and are planning on taking; I'll wait to see how things go after their next expansion and the massive amounts of changes they have coming for the class. I loved Vanilla and BC WoW, I'm just disliking so many of the things they are getting ready to push and am pretty hesitant as to how they are going to pan out as a whole. But I loved the fluid gameplay of the Rogue and the seemless animations and playstyle of them when played well or right, something I have yet to find in any other game I have tried thus far.
I also loved the Shade in Anarchy Online.
Anyways, I'm looking for a good game, descent graphics and gameplay. I want pretty strong PvE but also very fun and entertaining PvP. Doesn't necessarily have to be F2P, a trial would be great, I just don't want to waste money on a game where the class and/or gameplay is sub par.
I was hoping you guys would have some good suggestions, or is WoW pretty much the only thing that looks as though it may be worthwhile for me?

AoC rogues are the shit. Nothing more to say there, except out of all games I have played, I liked their rogues the best.
I played Barbarian, but Assassins are nice too, even Rangers early on.

AOC Assassins are my favorite by far. In order to give you a frame of reference, i've played the following: FFXI, VG, LOTRO, EQII, WoW, and Aion.
Got to bump Aoc rogues here as well. Everything Gt said above, plus I love the way you have to use light to stay in stealth and move around in the shadows. I know lots of people have problems with this game but for me, that is one thing they did well. Love the Barb. It's like a meat grinder with stealth technology.
Sounds like I might give it a shot.
I read about their expansion, I take it I need to buy the expansion or should I hold off on it?
Oh and what is their non pvp server based pvp like?
Well, yes and no.
The xpac has a new race, and some early and later content - which is helpful to players that have done the old stuff X amount of times - but if you never played it before, you are fine with just the original game until you feel like buying the xpac. Plus, i don't even think you need to buy the game in order to get the free trial in torage, but many Gamestops have the original game box for around 20$, even less on half.com.

Free trial man. Have a look and see for yourself. You don't need to buy the expansion. Download and have a little look at the game before spending your hard earned cash.
Lets not forget AoC Assassins/Rogues get the fatalities once in awhile (Youtube a fatality video and you'll love some of them)
all classes get weapon/spell specific fatalities, rogues just get the coolest ones (barb get tons since they can swap between 2h and dw blunt/blades).

I've played a bunch of games and I'd have to agree with the AoC Assassin.
For fatalities, well the 1h edged (sword) decapitation was always my favorite. But the sin fatalities are pretty cool too. The new xpac you can learn new fatalities but I haven't found them yet.
