Hi,
shopping for a new machine, slightly intimidated by building my own, can you tell if this build, for sale by a local e-bayer is worth the 950 euro pricetag?
Comments
is it used? If so, no its not worth that amount.
A new build, ya that price is about right. I wont say "good" because the build is very dated which is why I asked if it was used.
The processor is a likely culprit keeping the price of the build higher than it should be. Theres cheaper i5's and i7's that outperform the q9650. The 1k power supply and the 2x GTX 260's are another dated and overly priced components on the build. You could easily find a cheaper single card solution or a faster single card solution at the same price as 2 gtx 260's (ATI 5870) and bump down the power supply to a 650w or at the most 750w.
in a nutshell I think you can find or build a better/faster more current PC at the very least the same price as this (probably cheaper). Is it a ripoff? Not really, I personally just wouldnt suggest buying something for that price which is getting close to being 2 generations behind.
k thanks,
it is used i think, the add says refurbished,
i'm leaning more and more towards a build of my own,
can you tell me btw if there are any major complications with using an AMD x6 cpu with a rough build designed for a x4 cpu? I have a reasonable deal on an x6 where I am, and low availability on the x4s
Just make sure your motherboard will support the amd x6 and everything else should be fine.
Im pretty sure most of the AM3 motherboards support the x6, I would just suggest making sure the motherboard you purchase does and offers turbo-boost for the x6. Aside from that, nothing really to be noted and the x6 is fully compatable with am3 motherboards.
if your CPU shopping, check this site out that will give you comparisons on CPU's. I linked the amd x4 965 Black Edition vs. the amd x6 1090t so you can see how they compare to one another.

I appreciate that link, thanks
Okay,
before I hit checkout, can anyone spot an oversight in this shopping list?

not sure if that first link will work, but i can cut and paste if needs be,
says the shopping list is empty.
*edit* also showing two of those sapphire 5870's in your cart. not sure if you intended that or not but it would suck being double billed

how much could you save by going with DDR3 1066 or DDR3 1333? Reason Im asking is that I (could be wrong) think that in order for that motherboard to hit 1600 speeds you'll need to overclock. Unless thats what you intend to do?
aside from that it looks good. I love the motherboard.
i did find these for thirty quid cheaper
Crucial - Memory - 4 GB : 2 x 2 GB - DIMM 240-pin
- DDR3 - 1066 MHz / PC3-8500 - CL7 - 1.5 V -
if i did go with 1600mhz would it put unneccesary demands on my motherboard?
No, the Asus Crosshair III Formula supports DDR3-1600 out of the box without any special steps needed to make it work (besides just setting the speed if it defaults to something lower).
I have that motherboard, and I'm using 4GB G.Skill Ripjaw DDR3-1600 with the rest of the system running at stock speeds (I haven't gotten a good enough CPU cooler to consider overclocking).
