Now I'm faced with going back to Eve or waiting for something else. Time will tell for me, but I can say without hesitation that this is the first time in 11 years of MMO play experience that I've been so quickly put off a game.

Performance issues and lack of meaningingful game play are my primary reasons for leaving after just a few short weeks of play. The Beta looked promising. I waited a bit and the game fell far short for me just as much as it did for so many other people.

I've sucked it up and moved on as of this afternoon. A month of my life that I'll never get back. The sad thing for me is that I was following Perpetuals development of this game a few years back. I really can't express how disspointed I am with Cryptics attempt at a potential "game winner".

It would almost be fair enough to say that they (Cryptic) have soiled the brand beyond repair in terms of MMO genres go. Who now will ever attempt such a monumental feat? I dare say, no Developer will after this.

STO, in my personal opinion, can be compared to the series falure of Berman and Co. with Enterprise. As much as Battlestar Galactaica changed my expectations for Sci Fi, Eve Online changed my expectations for PVP. Cryptic fell short.

Watching Star Trek has been one of my favorite hobbies growing up and even into adulthood. That is something that Cryptic will not change.

But what they've done with the game IMHO is about the same as producing a TV series nd making it the same cheesy quality as Xena, or turning it into something that's the complete polar opposite of what Star Trek means to me.

Honestly, if their product did not have the Star Trek tag attached, I probably would never have even looked at it.

That is exactly why they bought the license to the IP.

Heh between effing up the only part of the game that is even remotely entertaining, adding more c-store stuff than actual content, and the apparent ever growing number of bugs, it's almost like they are trying to make the game fail.  Did Roper and Zinc sell short on their Cryptic stock?

Making the game harder is not a bad idea, too bad they didn't figure that out before the release.

Initially when doubts were aired about STO and Cryptic, they claimed they "learned their lesson" and were a "new Cryptic" and wouldn't make the same mistakes they made with the CO launch.  I guess you have to be willing to see/admit what the mistakes are before you can avoid them.

Was the mistake acting like they cared what their paying customers thought the first time around?

If so I would say that's rectified. But then again, I don't "get it".

I played both CO and STO. I will never, ever purchase another Cryptic-made MMO again.

Nothing they do will be able to correct the poorly concieved mechanics they designed into the game.

What a shame they ruined what could have been (in better hands) a deep and engaging MMO.

I dont know why people keep posting threads in regards to stupid design decisions Crypitc makes, you deserve to be frustrated since you continue to play this game after everything they have done.  Stuff liek this should not come as a surprise

Actually I think the majority of us here are no longer playing this game and just watching with glee or horror or a mix of both as this game runs off the tracks. I know I never played past open beta. Most of us post here because we can't post on the official forums.

STO is like driving by a wreck on the road...you can't help but look.

The forum is way more entertaining than the game anyway.

What gets me is that it I do a power slide for almost a light year before I make a complete turn in a straight line in my Space Whale.  Yesterday i measured it off of a stationary object and it took me .91 of a LY to come 360 deg. and face the target.  I understand about momentum but the ship should turn/pivot while still travelling in the origional direction useing its navigation thrusters.

The physics for some of the models are really weird. In sector space it's bizarre. I can do pinwheels with my t5 cruiser. At one point, I was able to move directly ahead while my nose was pointed down at -45 degrees.  Maybe it's just something about the cruiser models, sometime it feels like playing moon buggy it's so bouncy and weird.

  • ScribbleLay1ScribbleLay1 Member Posts: 177

yeah, that is true about the Cruisers.  I tried all day today to do a slide with my science and escort and could not do it.  I do love those Cruisers though, they are like the old TimeX commercials,, They can take a licken and they keep on ticken.  Another funny thing is today I was leveling up my Captain and I ran into the same bug of floating cargo containers, it was the same bug I reported three other times with three other Captains and once in Beta.  I got a report number of 886,564 I hope that is not the amount of bugs but it is clear that Cryptic puts emphasis on C-Store items than fixing something as simple as floating cargo containers.

After playing STO, I can firmly say that the only fun part of the game was the PvE space combat. If they are nerfing that, then there won't really be any reason to play the game at all.

If anyone played City of Heroes a few years back, they'd know that Jack Emmert loves nothing more than the nerf everything and everyone.

I was a CoH fan for almost 3 years, I started out liking Emmert very much for making such a fun game and communicating so much! Then he went to the darkside, as corporate interest swallowed creativity and pride.

The nerfs began to rain, and the arrogance took over. Suddenly, he knew best, his "vision" was touted as what we wanted, though we didn't know it. I won't buy or support in any way anything he is attached to..I digress.

    *Ahem!*

The PvE space combat in STO was the only enjoyable part for a few levels, then even that got stale and grindy. The kind of grindy where you're laughing at Family Guy while playing, then click the Complete button on commercial.

Your last line uterly sums up my feelings playing STO space combat achieved the arcade feel that Cryptic usually shoots for in their games (which I find to be a secondary desire in gaming now that I'm older) but just as you stated the rest of the game is so lacking space combat becomes an absolute grind as the only thing to do and even as you described again even as I entered missions I started to see what people with ADD feel like because I couldn't get passed the loading screen before having my attention taken by the thirtieth episode of Big Cat Diary for the day.

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

Upon loading into my instance box for yet another repeat mission, my thoughts would quickly flit to "..huh? So what an I ..killing 5 or scanning 5..?"

Maybe the nerfs have merit. Their lates notes say "We have those DPS/recharge/global-ability-cooldown adjustments that many of our high-end players have been requesting."

    Haha.
