Dirges and Troubador question

borockborock Member Posts: 42

So I have been searching for a game to play while I wait for GW2. I have been checking out several different games that feature classes based on music, and since EQ2 is so highly rated here, I figured i'd give it a try.

My question is this, as a dirge or troubador, when you play your songs or cast spells or whatever, does your character literally pull out an instrument and play it? or does a buff just appear around him and his allies/enemies? And which of these two classes uses instruments more. Im a guitar player, so if one uses a lute or other guitar like instrument I'd prefer playing that class.

Thanks to all who reply!

you just pull out a instrument for a moment and then put it away ... while the buff remains. you also can't pick your instrument, i think the only two are lutes and drums.

Thats cool, as long as you actually pull out an instrument its cool with me. I could really get into it. does either class use a specific one? or do both use a mixture of lutes and drums?

I read troubadores play instruments and dirges sing. That true?

ok, there are no actual instrument items.

When casting certains spells / abilities, your character will do a little animation of pulling out a lute and strumming it or beating a drum. it'll last about 2-3 seconds.  majority of the time in combat you'll be swinging you weapons.

As far as I know, both troubs and dirges get those animations.

LoTRO has like a full music system, have you checked that out?

Both can sing, and chant. They also pull out an instrument for a second and play, usually a lute or drum, though I think I've seen a harp too. Then they put it away. Then there's a particle effect that continues for the duration of the spell if you have particle effects turned on.

Was going to say LotRo has a music system, I'm not sure but I think you can compuse your own music in it with certain key strokes I wouldn't know but asking in game; also its really sad EQ2 doesn't offer instruments they were a big part in EQ1 for bards.
