I'm looking to upgrade mine and my wifes systems. I did a bit of researching online last night. Here is what I came up with:

939 setup

Corsair XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series, (Twin Pack) 184 Pin 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-3200 - Retail
EPoX "EP-9NDA3J" NVIDIA nForce3 ULTRA Chipset Motherboard For AMD Socket 939 CPU -RETAIL
AMD Athlon 64 3500+, 2.2 GHz, 512KB L2 Cache, 64-bit Socket 939 Processor - Retail
Sapphire ATI RADEON X800 XT Platinum Edition Video Card, 256MB GDDR3, 256-Bit, Dual DVI/VIVO, AGP 8X, Model "581PE"
Total: $2,023.88

PCI Express

Corsair XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series, (Twin Pack) 184 Pin 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-3200 - Retail
EPoX "EP-9NPA+Ultra" NVIDIA nForce4 ULTRA Chipset Motherboard For AMD Socket 939 CPU -RETAIL
AMD Athlon 64 3500+, 2.2 GHz, 512KB L2 Cache, 64-bit Socket 939 Processor - Retail
SAPPHIRE ATI RADEON X850 XT Video Card, 256MB GDDR3, 256-Bit, DVI/TV-Out, PCI-Express, Model "100106" -OEM
Total: $2,097.88

Not sure if I want to go PCI Express or not. I'm not to familiar with it yet. Thanks for your thoughts in advance. This is for 2 upgrades, but only one memory set. I already have the twins in mine, she has 1054 of  Corsair Value Select in hers.

I would go with PCI express setup1 but the prices your listing seem alot higher than they should be, are you having someone else build/ship it to you?

To be honest, I was looking around to see if there was anything I could prove you wrong with.

But looks like you're pretty well set off!

Thanks Murt! I'm going for the PCI Express setup. Might upgrade to the 4000+ CPU too... See if my wife notices the difference in price! image

I don't think I would go the PCI-Express route at this time, since they're still working the bugs out of the system.  A good AGP-8x system will still serve you quite well, and would be a lot cheaper.

Your price seems extraordinarily high.  I could build a really good gaming rig for under $1,000 (My last one I built a few years ago around a PC2100/Radeon 8500 setup only cost me $600 to build).  Shop around for the best prices on parts.  Personally, I do most of my business online with MWave (http://www.mwave.com).  Since I'm looking to build a new system to replace my aging Radeon 8500 setup, I'll give you my specs that you can use as a comparison:

    • Mainboard: Asus A8V Deluxe - $112
    • CPU: AMD Athlon 64 (Socket 939) +3500 - $267
    • Memory: CORSAIR VS1GBKIT400 2X64X64 PC3200 2X512MB CL2.5 DDR DIMM (1GB) - $103
    • Graphics: ATI RADEON 9800 PRO 128MB AGP 8X DDR 256BIT - $199

    Total thus far: $681

Now, if I use your specifications as much as possible:

    • Mainboard: EPOX EP-9NPA+ ULTRA nVIDIA nFORCE4 ULTRA CHIPSET SERIAL ATA300 - $133
    • CPU: AMD Athlon 64 (Socket 939) +3500 - $267
    • Memory: CORSAIR CMX1024-3200C2 128X64 400MHZ 512MB CL2 DDR DIMM W/HEAT SPREADER - $244
    • Graphics: ATI RADEON X800XT 256MB DDR3 8xAGP VIVO (VIDEO IN&OUT)DVI - $479

    Total thus far: $1123

    Hope this helps!
