Personally I have been playing SWG on a 10 year old PC up until recently.  I just ordered a new machine as I am fed up of the client side lag in mass pvp.  I can play the rest of the game no problem but the more extreme situations require a half decent PC.

So the bottleneck is old computers and bad internet connections on the users end.

Then people with good computers and low ping will not have those problems?

Not to the same extent that old computers and bad connections will, no.  But there will still be some lag problems and rubberbanding issues, even on a high-end computer with a blazing fast connection.  I had them even on my rig with my connection and with graphics turned down.  Part of it is population, the amount of data in a given area (i.e. people or buildings in an area), the core code of the game engine not really having been updated much in about 5 years, what have you.  But the problems will not be as prevalent for those running better systems with better connections, most likely.

Maybe MMO is not your genre, go play Modern Warfare...or something you can be all twitchy...and rank up all night. This is seriously getting tired. -Ranyr

but...is the housing any good? I guess I wont get a house on a 14 days trial playing 2 hours a day? Can I style the outside of the house like in UO or just the inside? How much in that case? If its like in EQ with the indoor styling I can live with no buildingstyling but if its like LOTRO then its poo.

The housing is awesome.  And LoTRO's housing is terrible in comparison.  As in, I refuse to own a house in LoTRO, SWG spoiled me so badly when it came to housing.  You can literally spend hours upon hours doing nothing but decorating the inside of your house - in any way you like.

Just the inside of the house, although you can paint the outside with your choice of colour.

Here's a guide on some of the available housing.

I believe only certain housing structures allow tinting of the exterior. There are also housing structures that are only available via the TCG. You cannot change wall or floor textures like in  EQ2.

There is no doubt the housing and the decorating potential continue to be awonderful features in SWG. Despite the many issues and the population problems the game currently has, there are some original features that still shine, and housing is one of them.

Seeming no one has even mentioned about crafting i will mention it now,

Crafting is a huge part of the game as every item you buy in bazaars or vanders are player created even building and harvesters, exept rare items you find like dragon eggs and bones and other items but the crafting is best i seen in any mmo, for 1 you can place soler panels and generators and all kinds of harvesters anywhere around your land and you have to keep them topped up with maintanance to keep them running, But you got a limit called lots and you have 10 lots and when you got no lots left you cant place anymore unless you destroy one then lots become availible but be aware bigger items requires more then 1 lot like mansions i think need 4.

There is already a "Crafting in SWG" thread right on the first page of this forum for your review.

All structures, be it housing, factories and harvesters take up a ceratin amount of lots. Regular accounts allow two characters per server, which gives a player 20 lots to work with, Elder Jedi accoints with the unlocked slots (third character) allow 30 lots. Guild halls and large houses require the most - five lots. If anyone wants to read up on this further, then i suggest taking a look at the 'Structure Trader' forun at the O-boards.

thx guys for the housing info. Guess I will try the game out sooner or later. Since I allready am playing VG and like EQ2 I could get that SOE subscription that allows me to play all 3 at the cost of 2. So many games but so little time.
