There was a number of articles that said it was becoming too difficult to continuously come up with fresh and new ideas each six months and release an expansion with enough content to satisfy players till the next one. The model itself is where the problem lied, and they felt constrained by the way they had designed it.
The more open design of Guild Wars 2 was in development before EOTN even was announced, and the original plan of the expansion set in a sort of Mayan setting was scrapped and they went for the expansion that would help setup more of Guild Wars 2.
Personally I think its a great idea, and Im liking that they are tying it all together in 1 big story arch.
No, gw1 is not a deadcow, its another game as gw2 is diferent game, they just share same lore, and now a lil secret... mmos need money, they dont live up by lolipops and fanboyz/trolls words, but shhhh keep it between us.
now: GW2 (11 80s). Dark Souls 2. future: Mount&Blade 2 BannerLord. "Bro, do your even fractal?" Recommends: Guild Wars 2, Dark Souls, Mount&Blade: Warband, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

what bout you giffe some of your money to starving children in africa?
There were alot of things they wanted to do in GW1 that the engine simply couldn't support or it would have been alot of work to add in, so they decided on just doing a complete sequel. This was something they could not foresee and so the result is no more GW1 campaigns and a long wait for a sequel.
Just another year to go and we'll have our hands on a totally new game. Hang in there.

ArenaNet is a wholly owned subsidiary of NCSoft, it does not make them a Korean game developing house. They are as western as they come. Stop making statements that come across as ignorant, you will only be doing yourself a favour.
From Wikipedia:
"ArenaNet is a computer game developer and part of NCsoft Corporation, founded in 2000 by Mike O'Brien, Patrick Wyatt and Jeff Strain and located in Bellevue, Washington. They are the developers of the episodic Action RPG series Guild Wars.
The founders of ArenaNet were former employees of Blizzard Entertainment who played important roles in developing the highly successful computer games Warcraft, StarCraft, Diablo, Diablo II, and the Battle.net gaming network. Their new studio was briefly called Triforge, Inc before changing its name to ArenaNet and being acquired by NCsoft."

I disagree they dropped the ball by not making more campaigns.

GW still looks and plays good and has the best fanatsy pvp on the market.
To stop releasing expansions and campaigns is some idiotic shit.
