What are "skirmishes"?

Hi all,

I'm looking for a reason to resub, heh, and I'm curious what these "skirmishes" are.  Anyone care to briefly enlighten me?

Thanks!

They are storied instances where you get to pick the difficulty as well as the size of the party. Based on these criteria your rewards are scaled.

You can also bring an npc soldier in to help you and this soldier can be levelled and customized with skills and the like.

Instant instances. You bring up a menu, select from a list of given instances, and instantly trannsport to the given situation. Make XP/Points and trade it off for goods then.

Cool, thanks.  Sounds like a neat system (kind of like AO mission terminals?).

I can't speak for all the levels, but at the lower levels they aren't worth doing. The rewards are really junky. Much better quest and crafting rewards. At first, I thought it was going to be totally awesome. They have so much potential. Especially, if you could let other players look at a list of ongoing skirmishes, and then join one.

It would be awesome if you can have your soldier outside of Skirmishes. Like a mercenary you can equip. Oh, well.

IMO, the only thing lacking from LOTRO, is a reason for the players to get together and socialize. They may happen at max level, but in the meantime soloing is stale and I've found myself not logging in anymore.

Hehe, serves Turbine right. When they announced the complete deletion of all group content from Lone-Lands, and I saw they actually received positive response from brown-nosers in their oficial forums, I unsubscribed. Its how they plan to handle most of the other areas. Keeping grouping to a minimum until the 2nd half of the game and end-game.
