Ah that thread cracks me up. is the entire game just full of illiterate morons or something? He mentioned that the first issue he had, was something about the 500 points, and then went on to say he basically said screw it, and didnt worry about it, end of story. The entire point of his thread was about the issue with the respecs and not getting refunded for both of them.

But the rest of the tards in there are just going on and on and on "youre a liar, i didnt get 500 points with mine" blah blah blah. He already said he doesnt give a shit about the 500 points...

Considering the OP in that thread went on at length about how he did not recieve his GameStop 500 C-Store points to start with, and then continued to claim he should have when others pointed out that he wasn't suppose to, then I guess he was either mistaken or lying. Go back and re-read his post.

The OP clearly said he had 500 points and had seen the points in the store.

Sadly it always seem to be the case that the defenders on the STO forums accuse someone of lying instead of taking someone at their word. The interweb definition of "toxic community" should say "see STO forums".

I agree it is one of the reasons this game is dying. The community is their own worst enemy and all they get by being jerks is enemys who have long memorys and are now loose on the WWW  (NOTE TO MODS: I am talking about the STO official forums not here)

Let's put it this way, I purchased the exact same thing as he supposed did and did not recieve 500 points. Nor, is it advertised anywhere on the box...inside or out...that you should get 500 points. I still have the box and my reciept by the way and have looked for it exstensively.  Therefore, there is no way that this person could have gotten the 500 points as he claims. Now, either he is mistaken or he is lying.

isnt the real point that cryptic community relations is ....well do scales of 1 to 10 rate in to the negative?

i submitted 2 bugs in the first week of playing, and allthough they were both minor never got a response on either by the time my subscription ran out. while recently talking to a gm in another game i mentioned the lousy service in sto and how grateful i was at the immediate response i had received on a minor issue, he responded/implied that the company he was working for was watching cryptic developements as a lesson in what not to do. he also expressed how gald he was he didnt work for cryptic and that he felt sorry for there employees. cant say i disagree, i wouldnt want to go to work every day to defend a shoddy product to people with justifiable complaints.

IF THE ONLY DEFENCE FOR CRITICISM OF A GAME IS CALLING SOMEONE A TROLL OR HATER, THAT SAYS A LOT ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THE GAME

Thats right grugg he is lying and i guess he is lying about the bug that ate his 20 dollars and he lied about the lack of support over the tickets he submitted and he lied about the phone being disconnected and now you might as well call us liers that we even mentioned that he put that they cut off phone support and then tell us we imagined it that Phoxe went in his OP and deleted that.

wow you guys are a trip.

Do not purchase StarTrek Online it is honestly not as good as it looks, I noticed that when I saw the offical snapshots of the game how it is played ect. Then a cryptic store, having to pay a month subscription then pay for Respecs, that is dumb...

If STO were my game, I would allow unlimited changes of respecs ect. 3 a month resetting on the first of the month, and for a monthly charge of $16.95. Possibly sell expansion Packs, or Other things, exp Boosters, but never anything that would give unbalanced gameplay.

STO Sucks, Wait for Tera Online guys, and see how it is, Cryptic is just a shame, doesnt even deserve to be called a MMO, or just download a free to play MMO while you wait for APB or something...

Dont bother with combat arms free to play wait for  the new game called BlackShot, much better gameplay if you ask me, because you spend an average of 5 hours per day playing on combat arms 720 hours in one month and only 120-130 hours playing the game fully specced specialist = waste of $40 + USD per month for combat arms, only for rich people. Free 2 play hardly.

In order for nexon to fix crap like this it would need to be Time only counts when item is in use, or when in game playing.

So Yeah bottom line Dont trust Cryptic.

Ok, let's accept for the moment he is a lier about the 500 pts from GS. He made that up, as part of the global conspiracy you CDF fight so ardently against.

I suppose we have to assume he is also lying about the respect bug, and the money he lost trying to do a simple respec due to said bug. That's what his post was about after all, he stated he let the 500 pts go with a "grumble".

Check that, not only is he lying, but so are so many in the community who have reported the same bug and lost points. They are all lyers, but you Gruug, are telling the truth right?

Yes, he must be lying, since Cryptic haven't made one blunder after another (missing uniforms, taco codes, liberated borg etc). Yep, all lies, no precident at all that Cryptic have screwed up a bunch of times. Not like even your fellow CDF have reported getting short shifted on 30 or 60 day free time.

May be not all boxes were equal and his box DID contain the 500 points while your one didn't?

It's not beyond reason to think some batches of the boxes came with 500 points (or some other promotional offer) and then later on batches didn't contain the same or any promotion. Or vice versa.

I think he certainly made it clear how much he DID care about the 500 points since he brought it up in not only that post but in several others on down the line.

I have to question the facts if he can not make them correctly from the start. If he is mistaken about the 500 points, then what other part of the story did he make up? I am not saying he did not have any problems with the C-Store. What I am saying is that HE may be blowing the subject up by claiming things that are simply not true. If it wasn't important, why even mention it in the first place?

LOL discredit him all you want and next week he will be on these boards and many other gaming forums pounding yet another nail into this dying game. Go ahead you are your own worst enemys so feel free to knock the guy today and the few tommorow and the few the day after that until their is nobody but you blues left in the game.

then you can scream at each other about why their is no development money because their are no monthlys left to pay it.

    have fun with that.

Why does every thread have to converge into the ever expanding debate over Fanbois?

Who gives a flying **** about fanbois? They're simply trolls, who like a game as opposed to those who don't. There's no difference, so ignore them. Lets focus on what's actually important here, that's the actual topic, which is?

That's another issue I have with this type of thread, what are we forum critics, scoring the posts within another thread? As I have no clue what happened here as it's not being discussed, what's being discussed is how others are discussing it...

I don't want to have to view another forum to know what the hell people are talking about, the only reason that is is because people would rather discuss a simple point from a topic (no phone support) or what fanbois' are saying...

Most people don't give a crap about what a fanboi says, they care about what the company did. Which I wouldn't know as it's not within this thread...

Well it's been mentione din bits and pieces, but the overall subject of the thread was that the OP on the STO forums had several prolems, starting with buying the game, along with 2 friends (with him at the store, all 3 walked out with copies of the game), and all getting 500 points to use in the STO cash shop, though they were surprised to get them, as it was not advertised or anything that 500 points was supposed to come with it. Anyway, he held onto those 500 points, there was nothing he wanted to use them for yet.

Then he decided to buy some points, 2000 for $20, in order to buy a respec. When he made the purchase, for some reason the 500 points he already had from the purchase, suddenly went away and rathe rthan having 2500, he only had 2000. He basically said screw it, didnt make a big deal of it, and moved on to the respec.

When trying to respec, he couldnt do it properly, because when putting in his skill points, the accept button was greyed out. He attempted it again, with another respec, same thing happened. The respec is bugged, you cant use all your points or the Accept button greys out, so youre screwed out of 1 point. He went to Cryptic seeking a refund for his respec purchases, due it being bugged. They refunded only 1 of those respecs, and then when he wrote back to them about the 2nd one, they refused to refund it, deleted information from his ticket, and closed it.

On top of that, it look slike Cryptic has also gotten rid of their phone support, the numbers no longer work, and Cryptic didnt bother to tell their customers about this, and so now the only method of support is through tickets. which, i would think Cryptic would be earning themselves some form of legal backlash for the phone support thing. I would assume that theyre responsible for upholding some form of support for their customers over the phone, as it was part of the expected service they paid for, and to just suddenly take it away without a word to any of its paying customers, as well as still charging the same fees. seems like it would be in some way illegal to me, though i could be wrong.

Anyway thats pretty much the gist of the thread, but the thread has basically turned into "omg youre a liar, you didnt get 500 points when you bought it" and thats all the supporters of STO / Cryptic are focusing on, rather than the no refund, the bugge dpurchase, the lack of support, the deleting of information and closing of his ticket (which, in my own job, if we did that to a ticket, we would be immediately fired for).

Im not sure if companies are legally required to offer phone support in the US. I thought I had read something way back that it was a certain number of days but Id have to check.  European consumer rights laws are much tougher so they may have stricter requirements than the US.

Just on that subject I draw your attention to EVE Online.

AFAIK CCP never had a telephone number for customers to call it was always done through petitions online. CCP does have an office in the USA so if there was a law then I presume CCP would have had to follow it? Unless of course, CCP has a secret bat phone telephone number just for USA customers to call that I don't know about. xD

Dunno what effect withdrawing telephone support has for STO in terms of breaking the deal.

Don't think Funcom provides phone supprt. Those forums are not lit up with rage rage rage over it.

And who knows the tone of the email sent. If you're an ass don't expect much help.

Also there is other means of getting help if the customer service rep was no help. They could send a PM to one of the admins on the board or posted in the PC and Technical Issues forum. No they would rather vent which I don't think helped their case.

Even twitter is useful. I've sent tweets to stormy about server lag and mobs acting up. He checked and they restarted some zones.

Well a lot of people have had problems with the ticket system either giving them a stock reply saying the issue is resolved when it isn't, or just getting responses that don't address the actual issue.  after all that sometimes it's easier to call so you can talk to an actual person.

CCP has coporate numbers for both iceland and the US on their website but  I don't know if they offer any customer service through it or not. Cryptic just has a bunch of emails now not even a business number.

  • kaiser3282kaiser3282 Member UncommonPosts: 2,759

No no, i understand there splenty of companie sout there without phone support. What i mean is, the customers are paying their fees for a service, which initially DID include phone support. Now, a fe wmonths later that phone support, which was part of the original deal, is suddenly gone, and without any notice whatsoever.

Just doesnt seem right. I mean hell, if something else, like say my credit card company or cable company, all of a sudden shut off their phones with no warning, id be pretty pissed if i called in needing assistance and there was no way to get through to them and i was unaware of it. I would think they would be required to give some sort of notice, like 30 days, or a week at least. But to just have the lines go dead, and not even so much as a  "Hey, as of today, we no longer have phone support, the only support available is through tickets", seems pretty shady.

As has already been suggested, contacting your credit card company to halt payment on these charges is the way to go.

You could also lodge a complaint via IC3.

    http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx

As for theories about this being signs of financial distress....

Atari itself seems to be doing ok thanks to other games in their stable.

But there are signs that Cryptic is underperforming.

Go to the Atari website and read their financial statements. They've reported significant losses in relation to Champions Online.

The decline was attributable to (i) a 9.5-million euro impairment following the lowering of the earnout payable for the purchase of Cryptic Studios (relating to Champions Online) and (ii) the impact of exchange rates.

For those unaware of the specifics of the purchase deal, there was a potential $48 million bonus attached to it based on revenues raised by 2011 (i.e. from CO and STO). Purely based on the first month's performance of CO (plus exchange rates), Atari have already knocked a quarter off that potential earnout (i.e. 9.5 million euro/$12.5 million US).

United States operations reported an operating loss of 14.4 million euros for the first half of fiscal 2009-2010 (compared with a loss of 15.0 million euros for the first half of fiscal 2008-2009), primarily due to a 14.2-million euro impairment of intangible assets attributable mainly to Champions Online and Test Drive Unlimited 2.

We can't tell precisely how much of that is attributable to CO, but the impairment means that those assets were re-assessed as being worth 14.2 million euros less than previously thought.

But I doubt a big IP mmo like STO would be shut down. They've said they have over 100k subscribers. That's kind of disappointing for a big IP like Star Trek, but a decent number of subscribers compared to other MMOs and probably makes this game profitable.

Worst case scenario - Atari shut down Cryptic at some point and absorb STO and all of Cryptic's MMO building assets. They've done that kind of restructuring already (i.e. Infogrames swallowing Atari whole and then taking on their name).

I would think they would be required to give some sort of notice, like 30 days, or a week at least. But to just have the lines go dead, and not even so much as a  "Hey, as of today, we no longer have phone support, the only support available is through tickets", seems pretty shady.

If you read the fine print of any MMO's terms of service, they normally allow themselves to do whatever they like without providing any kind of notification.

Or in extreme cases, even claim your immortal soul.

I think in case they've just shut it down quietly to avoid too much negative PR, hoping that most players don't notice and consequently don't start to lose confidence in the product.

You just know someone is going to do it i just wonder when.

ST MMO fans are their own worst enemy. Due to the way they've presented their disapointment over this, no one will ever make them an MMO. At least not until a new 'successful' series is released.

Who wants to make an MMO for a group of fans that can never be pleased because what they think makes a good ST mmo varies so much from one to the other? No one who values their business. Perpetual died trying to make one, Cryptic tried to make an alternative that wouldn't kill them, but they may have been poisoned by it in the end.

ST MMO fans have screwed us all over. Blame Cryptic all you want, I'm not happy with them either. However, I know the way people have reacted will prevent anyone trying again for quite sometime, if ever.

Longing for Skyrim, The Old Republic and Mass Effect 3
