A sense of acomplishment!

starfoxx31starfoxx31 Member UncommonPosts: 67

Im looking for an mmo. The requirments are very simple at this point.

- The game has to be fun. I want to WANT to play it. I dont want to dread going to grind mindlessly or do the same quest over and over with new names to them.

- I want a sense of acomplishment and somthing to show for my hard work in a game.

-Fantasy

- Perferably P2P with NO microtransactions <---- That is a biggie

- lots of gear options (i hate when EVERYBODY looks the same)

Ok Im going to recommend Entropia Universe.  Honestly theres no greater sense of accomplishment than can be found in that game, mostly because every step you take in it you are forced with making real life decisions, as the game is very cash hungry.   Some folks play for free and do very well, that however is an unusually patient person as far as Im concerned.

The community can be great, or very bad, depending on your level of patience and what your interests are in that game.  Its very social.  That being said Im not recommending the community, but it does work for quite a few people there.

The game itself offers a variety of tasks that in my opinion have only been done by Ultima Online.  There's even PvP, and looting in some areas.  If youve got the mindset and dont mind spending money every now and again, Entropia could be a very fun game, and its worth at least looking at.

Well first i want to thank you for the speedy reply!

Secondly i want to appologize for being an idiot. There was one requirment i forgot to add. The game must NOT have and microtransactions. Im perfectly okay with monthly fees, in fact, i perfer P2P. But microtransactions are a no! Im sorry im an idiot!

Atlantica is a great game without paying a dime, but if you are just going to cry about the cash-shop anyway then don't bother.

@ Torvaldr: I perfer sandbox, but will try anything. Graphics are not important as long as the game is 3d.

  • starfoxx31starfoxx31 Member UncommonPosts: 67

Torvaldr, have you heard anything about Craft of gods? its seems interesting and there is an open "beta" soon (more like hey try our game in this case) i watched some videos on youtube and the world seems really quite pretty and well done. I suppose we will see end of this month!

not to sound like a jerk, but how can i elaborate on that!? Are FF games turn based?

  • HyanmenHyanmen Member UncommonPosts: 5,357

Well, the games are mostly real time turn based, like let's say world of warcraft.

    The MMO ones at least.

Perhaps im stupid and dont understand the whole turn based thing, but World of Warcraft turn based? hmm, well the definition i always knew was like when you choose a skill or attack from a list, then your character will do that action. While your doing that action the other character just kinda stands there. They have to wait for your to finish before its their turn. When it is the oposing characters turn he does the same. Rinse, repeat.

Yeah, that's different kind of turn based. Some FF's used that system, but it doesn't work like that in MMO FF.

Like in WoW, your weapon has a delay and you have to wait for that delay before you can attack again. WoW is pretty fast when it comes to it, but it's still turn based by core. However, every PC and NPC acts on their own and doesn't wait for others to make their move... thus making it "real time" turn based.

So, what game is the FF combat system like? World of Warcraft?

  • HyanmenHyanmen Member UncommonPosts: 5,357

Hmm, I don't know. There's no auto-attack. You choose every command yourself and need to time your attacks so they deal maximum damage.

Let's say that it's a bit like WoW, but slower paced and more strategic.

Anyplace i can go to see this in action? (my next reply will be slower, im heading to school.)

  • HyanmenHyanmen Member UncommonPosts: 5,357

Not anywhere official, since you can't post information about the beta (which it is in right now).

It's also very unpolished, so it doesn't really reflect the finished product.

I can probably find you some vids via PM though.

Final Fantasy XI's (11) combat system is just like that of most MMOG's. Turn based is like you described, one side has to wait while the other decides what abilities they want to use and when it's their turn you have to wait. In my opinion a turn based MMOG would just feel stupid, it would be too easy.

On that note, no, FFXI is not turn based, it's real time combat. Though in FFXI it's all about grinding to gain lvls, I have just barely played it myself being a huge Final Fantasy fan, but it's just way too asian style MMO wise for me to consider playing as a game I keep myself busy with.

Grinding means they weren't able to come up with a decent enough concept to let you gain lvls without seeing the grind straight on, but in most free to play games it's all about grinding, mostly so in asian MMOG's.

Anyways, slightly off the topic there. As I was saying, you'll need to expect to grind for months on end to reach end lvl in FFXI, it takes a lot of time. Also, you have subclasses, and most people don't want to group with you unless you have a subclass that decently supports your main class. That means needing to lvl up two classes which takes even longer.

Yes, FFXI is pay to play and I know a lot of people that browse these forums enjoy FFXI and has been playing it for many years but at least in my opinion, (which this is) I don't think it's a very good game with a lot of options of what you can do inside the game world. You sit idle and wait to get a group then you go out at a grinding spot and grind for hours on end.

As far as I know, and this is just me assuming, quests in FFXI don't give you XP. So all you have going for it is knowing the exact spots with the right class combination setup that gives you most XP per hour, that's how I've seen it that they calculate it anyway.

I'm hoping sincerely that FFXIV (14) will be a better game, but I'm not holding my breath to be honest... I've been constantly let down time and time again over the past few years when new MMOG's has entered the market so I've become quite the sceptic when I see a new game these days.

I thought melee in FFXI has auto-attack, I might be mistaken though. I've only tried caster classes when playing it.

Yes, FFXI had a more traditional combat system.. but I think he wants to know info related to FFXIV, and there's no auto-attack there =P.

Oki. I just hope FFXIV turns into something decently... I'd love to play a FF MMOG but not if it's asiated beyond recognition. I play to have fun and get immersed in the games I play, not sit and yawn while grinding my butt off, that's not anything resemblent to the word fun at all. I'd rather stare at a wall :(

You can argue that a good community can keep it nice and acceptable. But is it too demanding to ask the game developers of a certain MMOG to at least try and let people have some fun. I honestly feel more or less that, that's what it has turned into. Weird as it may sound.

When I was younger I did accept more grindy games, I think that's a typical thing. But as you become older, it becomes more of a nono. And to think that the developers creating these games are what? In their 30's, 40's, maybe some even older.

I don't post very often with my user here, I'm more the forum stalking type, lol. But some posts manages to get me out from hiding.

Not every game is for everyone.

From what I have seen so far, XIV won't be an XI-2 at least. Where do they go from there, I'unno.
