Up to level 30 now, still yet to have to pay cash for anything.  Even if that begins to change as I get closer towards 40, its still been a fun ride this past month or so.  Much more fun than the 2 months I spent with Warhammer (my last MMO) and that cost me $65.

I liked the tutorial area, after that this game reminded me of every F2P WOW clone I have tried before. Same boring kill X and bring me Y so called quests that have been overdone for a decade now. Game might get better after X level but I will not be there long enough to find out. When a game makes little effort tto make the early part good then few people are going to play on to what is supposed to be better. Make the early levels fun to hook people, making the early part tedious is a great way to launch a failure instead of a game that could be good.

To put it plainly; when you get killed in the game you have an option to pay your way out of purgatory (a place you have to sit until the clock runs down, which can be very high at lvl 40)  with myrrh, which you can buy in game. Or if you use a perfume (now called incense) because ppl complained and said get rid of perfume, so they did, and changed the name, genius i know).

You cannot buy your way out when killed in raid or dungeon. Therefore you have to use incense. To get incense buy it at cash shop or wait 45 minute with a -25% to stats to continue playing, while your group, i dont know, just sits and waits on you....not...

You can buy incense in game but it cost around 60gold a pack, and farming that much gold takes awhile, and if you get killed while doing it guess what, your in purgatory.. haha hahaha.....you will become so aggravated you'll have to spend in the cash shop because, i dont know about these fanboys, i play to have fun, not get pissed off.

So you have to spend in the cash shop at end game, especially if you want to raid or dungeon. I wont even get into the stat buffs you gain from incense or potions sold in the cash shop. That is pretty much easy enough for any moron to figure out that those who pay the most are the most powerful. Their stackable too so you could be godlike if you spent enough. Pay to win..everybody else on this forum know this already but some fanboys really try to deceive so they have someone to gank.

Unfortunately doing a daily is part of the problem for me. Same thing every day is part of the issue with these clones. I found nothing in Allods that made me think new or fresh. Instead it all seemed like I had done these exact same things in too many games before this. Allods may have some good stuff later on, but right now what I found was recycled and stale.

well you can start the repeat quest as oon as you completed the patorage quest. So as early as level 15.

doubt any one would want to do it, but you could make a alt level /quest up where the alt can do the repeat quest, now you can get 2 perfume/Incense a day image

If you solo a lot, your going to die a lot. I dunno maybe these are the players that have a issue with FoD. For me I just use Myrrh to remove FoD  I can afford that easily , the Incense is used when I need the extra HP.

I agree the Incense is a very nice convience to not using any myrrh, and the buff is very  helpful, but is is not a necesarry.

I am an altoholic so I do level up slower (too many toons image) So I am getting  plenty of Incense  before I will actually need to use them. Yeah I do beleive they will become a necassary for some moments in the game. And that once a day quest, where you're only getting one a day, is not going to be enough.

If I was rich I would  not even play a free to play game, I already know they can cost more then Pay to Play games. Some players are like me ( maybe, I guess) where I had to give up monthly fees due to cut in Income, and smaller budget, but yet still addicted to online gaming. So we opt to play F2P games, but  the part that sux, is the part to enjoy the game one would have to fork over more $$$ for a free to play game then a pay to play game.

Can  a player play a free to play game 100% free,  well sure they can, will they enjoy it 100% of the time, not even. Every F2P game I have tried, there is a point that Free  to play  does exsist, but to a certian level,  call it their free trial period. What I am saying is from lvl 1 to level XX one could enjoy of never spending real $, and get 100% of what is available for them, after that XX level, a player would need to pay real $ to get that same enjoyment.

So yes, if your rich you win, if you can afford to Rune up everything, you can afford the Incense (perfume), and if you do upgrade those  runes, your going to want Incense.

If your Poor, best makes some friends that are willing to party with you.

    And stop soloing

Make the game a subscription MMO, loose the players who will only play a game if it costs them nothing, gain the players who are happy to finance their MMO but are not going to be treat like a cash cow.

Most get discouraged, first you’re hyped up with a quick leveling up to level 5, then things slow down. These players will quit before level 10

some quit because the small inventory size, both bank and personal bag

The next group of quitters, are those that are disgusted with the type of loot that drops, and quest rewards. You can kill as many mobs you want and what does drop items, will be 3-5 levels below what you already have. Makes no sense to have a lvl 15 mob drop something that is lvl 7-11. Quest rewards that you get items, are always 3 levels below the quest level. Players get tired of the poor loot, only thing worth getting is respectful gear, the other stuff, well that is just NPC food.

granted there are a few good but very rare drops, but most of these are never seen till towards end game, players are disappointed or discourage before then.

Then Pow, the biggest discouragement, the prices of some cash shop items.

There was even a decline in players in CBT, but during then it did not show much, and I would not have called in a real CBT, it was more like a limited Open beta period.

Now there are not many playing, still a tiny fraction more then CBT. I would have to presume the cash shop may have a lot to do with the decline. Back during CBT#3, I told friends “I do not think gPotato has their head in the right place”, then when they included the cash shop, I still have to say “I do not think gPotato has their head in the right place”

I guess gPotato was correct, that cash shop items will not modify who wins, whereas no one can afford to buy from the cash shop to have that winning edge

It will just cost too much to have such a character geared with the best.

From what I understand from past articles I have read, the Asian gamers play for money, that the games are more designed for real cash, or something like that. Where in the western parts we play games just for mere entertainment. 2 different markets.

Also it could be the other reason they have high prices, is to take a loss, for a weighty Tax cut. which is nothing new to the corporate world, they do that all the time, have a project fail and claim the loss

and there is the slightest possability that they made cs prices so high as to kill it for more profit to be used on another better game? would make sense scuttle the ship and use the parts to make a bigger one

Is Allods worth a subscription? From what I saw F2P is where it belongs.

There is a LOT of exaggeration here. Since it is a F2P, simply download it and test the game. It is actually a nice, well-designed game. I like the stats system and the wide range of combat variables that the game presents.

I spent just one thing so far: the biggest bag, for my Warden.

oh dang,  see I never have  got a empire toon higher then lvl 15 yet, so that quest I did not know was broken for empire,  I do know they have a lot of broken quest too, before  then.

So if your rich and can waste $$, then you can play Empire image

and if your rich and can waste $$ you can waste just a lil le$$ playing League image

Also never reached to the point where i could do Heroic Instances, So I was unaware that only Perfume/Incense was your only option image

This is one example of what people mean when they say you *need* to use the cash shop if you want to be able to play very far into the game. There are some out there who will say otherwise, no matter what the scenario; they'll say "nuh uhhhh... you never have to pay a dime and can do everything!". My guess is either they don't know wha they're talking about, are flat out lying, or are not fully experiencing all of the game.

Let's put it another way... I've yet to see someone come in here showing a screenshot of their top-level fully decked out character and a list of their achievements in the game, along with their running total of money spent on a cash shop showing zero. I see plenty of vague generalizations, like "oh well I play regularly and am beyond the low levels and am having fun and I  dont' spend a dime!" Could be that I've simply missed any such post... but considering I read through forums pretty regularly, I'd think by now I'd have seen something.

Now some will say in defense, "But I don't need to do all that in order to enjoy the game". Great, but then they fall into the category above of "not experiencing all of the game" and are likely held back from doing any of that content because it would cost money to get through it. And in another way, I don't need to have a fully decked out character to enjoy myself in FFXI either... and in fact, I don't have a fully decked out character, I'm what I call a "Budget Monk" or "Budget Dragoon". Difference is, if I decided to push to get that top level gear - I still pay only the subscription fee and everything else is available or obtainable via in-game mechanics.

Sure, it's been stated that the majority of players don't ever use the cash shop. However, and I've asked this before in a thread in another part of the site, what are they counting? Registered accounts? People who play regularly? People who have played 'til level 5 or 10 where most anyone would say the cash shop isn't necessary yet? That's the problem with making such broad-sweeping statements like that. In order for such a statement to be really meaningful, they need to quantify what that "majority" is comprised of.

If the majority of players refers specifically to people at the mid or higher end game, doing raids, doing PvP and doing the tougher content, then it has some meaningful context because now we know they're referring to the group that is usually described as having to use the cash shop.

If they're including people level 10 or lower.. then that is meaningless because, again, anyone would tell you the cash shop isn't necessary that early on, and it's that way by design. They want you hooked on the game so you'll feel compelled to keep playing and, eventually, paying.

There are people who will bash those who use the cash shop, labeling them as various things to downplay their significance. The thing is... those who are paying are the developers' target market. They are not targeting the people who will never pay a dime. If they were to decide "we're losing too much money because not enough people are using the cash shop of those we have playing, so we need to trim some fat"... guess who would be the first to go? Hint: It wouldn't be those paying.

But back on point... That example is just one of the reasons why so many will say the game is designed to make people use the cash shop, as much as possible, and to believe otherwise is just plain naive.

I've had conversations with high level players in MMOs like Perfect World, ArchLord, Shaiya, etc. while I was giving them a try to see if they were something I wanted to invest my time and/or money in. I'm talking about high level players who fully get into the game - things I would want to do if I kept playing, like high end PvE and PvP content, etc. In every case, they have said the same thing, if you want to fully experience the game, you will have to use the item shop and spend a considerable amount of money per month. If you don't, then expect to be steamrolled regularly becuase it is simply impossible to compete with those who do.  They have stated this unequivicolly in every case.

The figures I got from those people on what they spend were at least double a normal monthly sub, far more in a few cases. That, coupled with the fact that none of the F2P's I've tried were particularly impressive gameplay wise, convinced me that F2P MMOs are not all they're hyped up to be and have, at best, a dubious payment model. I see F2P now and it translates into "No up-front fees, but we're going to nickel and dime you to death".

I'm pretty sure any one of them would have a good laugh at those on here claiming you never have to spend a dime to fully experience a given F2P MMO.

Actually... I probably would if it were reworked into a sub-based game and the gameplay was modified to not include or require a cash shop.

At least then I could see what the game is *really* like rather than knowing that at any point, I might hit some artificial barrier or obstacle implemented specifically to make me pull out my credit card and buy an in-game solution with real-world cash.

Not me. If a game fails to be enough fun to make me log back in after the first couple of hours I am not paying to find out if there is fun later.

This is the reality of the item malls of these MMOs, people play a MMO instead of going to casinos to gamble or buying expensive luxury stuff in RL to brag about it to their friends (after all, you'll be able to brag about your stuff to a lot more people in a MMO, and actually kill 'em a lot more easily or progress a lot faster).

ZERO cosmetic stuff/fluff, 100% functional CS items.

CS like these worry me, they are just another step from the usual Western CS which at least provide cheaper ways to achieve instant gratification, instead of $1000+ domination you can already feel a difference and be satisfied with $10 (like buying a new area in DDO or a few licenses in Atlantica, I'm not saying you can't also achieve domination by spending $1000 in these CS's), and we're not talking about a one-use consumable or 10-minute buff. The model itself is flawed because companies exist to profit.

The funny thing about all the people who say this game's cash shop is soooo ridiculous at higher levels, is they aren't a high level. Theres a ton of them in zone chat all day whining about how this game is going to fail because of CS and anytime you check their level, its never higher than 10. The truth, yes there is a problem at endgame with having a penalty and needing CS items. Russian servers are voting on how to deal with this right now, and then it will be implemented (prob not for a while, but still). The devs stated early on that their objective was not to make a p2win game and besides the death penalty/perfume required problem, it is. There are already ingame solutions, many high levels just buy perfume from other players looking to make gold from their real money and the high levels can make the gold easily enough.  As for all your other "OMG if , by an extremely rare(stupid)  twist of fate someone buys runes that cost a ton of money they'll kill me" comment, noone is going to by them, if they do, ohh well, its going to be a very rare occurence to run into them, and you are gonna get ganked from time to time anyway, it's not by any means a game killer like the way your whining about it.

and truth is allods is a very good and polished game that can be fun without spending a dollar on the cs.

Nobody forces you to play the game, spend your money on the cs or cry about it here

Proper greaing in Heroics costs about 3 Perfumes a run.

    5 Heroics x 3 perfumes per run = 15 perfume a run

You need to run a dungeon at LEAST 10 times to get decent gear you want, so that makes at LEAST 10 days of running heroics (it's like minimum to get decent gear, but if you want full heroic Epic Gearment the number of days highly increases).

    5 Heroics x 3 perfumes x 10 days = 150 perfumes

add 50 more perfumes because you screwed up something during those 10 days.

200 perfumes to get DECENT gear not ALL possible gear.

    20 perfumes = 7$

    200 perfumes = 70$

70$ to stand slight chance in PvP + x ammount of dollars you will spend on Perfume you need to PvP

    I rest my case.
