Okay awesome, thanks. My boyfriend will be glad to know that I don't have to spend another $40 right now. :P

I've been thinking of returning to this game and dusting off my Defiler.   Just something extra to do till cataclysm comes out.  I played at launch and two years straight after that before getting tired of always needing a group to do anything combat related.  I really loved the crafting and housing however.

On the fence about if I should come back.  Even on a parttime basis.  I remember the community was very conservative, right wing and at times racist.  Does this still appear to be the case?   Share your thoughts.

    Current Games: WOW, EVE Online

Bought this game last week with a friend. We were burned out by all the new MMO's on the market (except for Fallen Earth) and decided to give this game a try.

Let me say you, I have to reconsider calling LotRO the best PVE MMORPG out in the wild. Combat is a bit clunky, for some reason, I need to play this game on performance, but hell, it's addictive! There a quite a few quests in voice over, you have housing, where you can collect ALOT of stuff for. I like the races as well. And I heard that there will be a patch in April/May for multi core support and shader 3.0.

So, I would say, it's a good choice for new players.

    Got real boring.

If you haven't tried World of Warcraft, I'd go with that first.  EQ2 has copied many of WoW's features.

Both have free trials, give em a shot see what you like.

If you are going from WoW to EQ2, the simplified EQ2 combat system and simple mob AI will bore you to tears.

First this is not a pointless eq2 vs wow thread .Fact you say EQ2 combat is simplified compared to WoW is a laughable joke.WoW has many good points but its combat is certainly not  complex compared to EQ2

I played EQ2 for over two years. EQ2 has much better character customization and a generally much more mature, but much smaller community. I met some great friends on there that I regret not keeping in contact with. The graphics can be nice to look at, but armor and clothing choices are very poor. They have exactly 1 robe model, which players sometimes call the burlap sack, that they reskin over and over, and very limited plate armor and leather armor models which absolutely irked me. They added a great feature a while back where you can customize your armor over your real armor purely for looks, so its like another layer, which is an improvement I suppose.

However don't get me wrong I very much enjoyed the game while I played its still got great gameplay and is very similar to WoW now, its come a long way from its launch, had an 80 frogok coercer and a few other lowbie alts....but what absolutely killed EQ2 for me is SOE's horrid customer service. It's just awful. WoW is well supported, more polished, more things to do, and the better game overall despite its flaws. People in general are fed up with how bad SOE's customer service is, and the way they manage things. It doesn't help the game is also becoming increasingly about micro-transactions. They're already going to add the option of pay as you go. I think its a lame idea. SOE really need to focus on listening to their customer base and marketing the game more effectively, but its very obvious they are milking the game for what its worth and shoving people's suggestions under the rug year after year. I also haven't heard good things about Sentinel's Fate, the latest expansion, which from the forums, I hear was a very rushed product. The last expansion I played was the Rise of Kunark expansion which I thought was great overall, but it seems like they're going downhill. I'll refain from judging SF any further though, since I haven't played it.

Anyway, I hope that helps somewhat. If you find a good guild, and there are many in EQ2, you'll find the game very enjoyable even as a new player. They can help you level.

Currently playing LOTRO and was thinking of re-subbing EQ2.  After reading these posts, I think I will give it a go again.  Think my highest character is at level 22.  I can't remember why I stopped playing, but will give it a go again.

    Thanks for the posts.

I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.
