I am really curious to see if bioware implements bounties into the game. More specifically, PvP bounties. SWG had player bounties, and in my opinion, made that class really fun. Thoughts?

I'd love for tor to have player bounties, but I seriously doubt bioware will implement them.
If you stand VERY still, and close your eyes, after a minute you can actually FEEL the universe revolving around PvP.
I agree, I am not expecting them to implement it, but It would a great surprise for player bounties.
I don't think there is any chance for player bounties in this game. If they did implement it, all classes would have to be able to take player bounties and it would lead to way too much griefing.
There's going to be some form of bounty system for sure, otherwise there wouldn't be a BOUNTY HUNTER class.
But if you can hunt players is tba. They did it in SWG and it worked great, hopefully it will be implemented.
Everyone will be in their own instances. How would you be able to hunt them? It would be awesome if there is a way. I'd love to hunt some jedi down!
As I am not expecting for there to be a bounty hunter-player system, I still think it is a distinct possibility that it could be included into the game. Maybe even brought in as a future expansion/update. Either way, I think it would be a huge bonus to the class, and maybe even bring more interest into the classes other than jedi/sith.(even though we know the majority will most likely play a light saber class)

Pros and cons of the bounty system.
Pro's:
Get to do what your job entails.
Proves that hunting people over AI actually requires intelligence.
You have to think about how you are going to react to the bounty's tactics and moves.
Basically gives alot more depth to it all.
Money and fame to be had.
Con's:
Prepare to have little or no friends attend your in game birthday party.
You will be shunned for hunting at inappropriate times. I.e showing up to a RP'rs event and attacking them. (Not exactly honorable to be honest, but kinda depends on your character.)
Players are genuinely the problem.
If Bioware allow it, (Which they should) If you attack a bounty who has allies, those allies should be able to help. Your own fault for planning your attack badly. If they never leave their allies, bring mercenaries *shrug*.
Can put alot of softcore gamers off as it's quite daunting.
Maybe limited to certain zones.

I agree here, but that is also the life of the bounty hunter. I can clearly remember the hat /tell's in game from players that I had killed for a bounty. I guess if you went into the class not expecting that, you might be put off by it. In my case I enjoyed every aspect. I liked tracking down the target, and waiting for the perfect time to strike when they were at their most vulnerable point. Also, in my SWG days, I always hunted bounties with friends. That made the game extremely fun for a long time.
How did it work in SWG? Did the game somehow post bounties on players randomly? Or did it take some kind of action from the target to make him an outlaw? The thing is, with the system of light and dark points (or whatever its called) there would be all those sith and dark freindly people with bounties on their heads, but what about the light freindly side?

Basically, originally, jedi would get bountys on them if they were seen too much in public and stuff *i think*, I only ever witnessed chases of this when i played pre CU, but recently when I played for four-five years after, it evolved to the point of when you were pvp'ing, or were killed, you could place a bounty on the person who killed you. Now if someone else put a bounty on the same person, it would add to the pot, not create a seperate contract. So some kills made you biiig bucks if they annoyed the right people. Was a nice system, just dont see how it'd work in a themepark mmo. Depends on the size of the worlds.

Ok thanks. I was a bit worried that it could get to be a pain. I mean, if the target keeps getting bounties on him, he could conceivably be run off the server! Perhaps somekind of cooldown could be used so that if i have a bounty on me and a hynter kills me, I can't get another bounty on me for a certain time.

Well, a number of requirements are set in place so that you arent constantly hunted. The first is that you would have to find an enemy in pvp willing to expend his/her credits to place a bounty. The second, is that the bounty is only posted as soon as you get a certain amount of credits (something like 20 thousand or more). The third is the amount of bounty hunters who are active in taking bounty contracts (also added to the fact that most bounty hunters wont go for low amount contracts). Add everything together, and you really aren't bothered much in the game, unless you PvP 24/7 and have huge amounts of credits on your head. It is a system that worked well in SWG.
I would like to see this in as well. Would you allow the smugglers to take the contracts for the Light sidfe?
Say hello, To the things you've left behind. They are more a part of your life now that you can't touch them.
Well smugglers are a different class, therefor they smuggle, not hunt bounties. BUT the developers do say that based on your actions, you can become good or bad. Therefor in theory, as a bounty hunter, you may be able to accept bounties for either the republic, sith, or even both if you are neutral.
I fully expect Bounty Hunters to not bounty hunt (apart from a few story-based missions, that is), and Smugglers to not smuggle.
Who knows, even Troopers might not troop!
Player bounties was definetly my favorite part of SWG. The way it was originially implemented, they were to help act as jedi population control and if SOE had left the death penalty alone it would have done its job. The jedi were extrememly powerful, but you could live with it knowing that very few of them dared to whip their lightsabers out because the consequences after losing three times was permanent death of the jedi. But then SOE caved in and keot changing it to the point that jedi no longer feared running around and before you knew it PVP became a jedi fest.
I'll go out on a limb and say that player bounties won't be in game because so far it looks like the game is going to be catered to the more casual crowd .You tend to get a lot of softies who think if another player even breaths on them that they are interfering with their precious gameplay.
Edited to add that the best part of player bounties was the hate tells. Popping someone when they were in the middle of grinding and then reading the wall of text that came seconds later was the just too much fun

I would bet that any "bounties" will be quests, missions, not on other players. I don't know a good way to implement a bounty system that avoids griefing, and gaming the system to collect bounties on your friends and have them split the loot with you.
I also agree that by all indications this game will be heavily instanced, and it's unlikely they will design it so you can just pop into someone's instance.
If you can, then it's open world, not an instance, which would be very cool.
But it doesn't seem like you can so the story quests they talk so much about, with a branching story depending on your choices, without instances.
I just don't know how else you'd do that.
Player and mission bounties would be awesome!
(BBBBBBBBBBWWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH fires plungers at Jar Jar Binks!)
All my opinions are just that..opinions. If you like my opinions..coolness.If you dont like my opinion....I really dont care.

Player bounties would certainly keep the force users population in check, would very much like to see that implemented. Not sure how BioWare would pull that one off though.
This Bounty Hunting idea sounds cool. I really don't know much about the new SW yet but this does sound interesting.
Nub's
LOL. There would be a line as long as the galaxy waiting to pop him. Damn I couldn't stand that character.

If you all remember, In KOTOR 1, there was a small bounty hunter system, and in number 2 you were the bounty. While I do want a player-bounty system, I am sure that will most likely wont be implemented. I am almost positive that they will place in some sort of system, just not a player based one.
I am so sick of sort-core games, and no REAL fun anymore heavy instanced game suck. Bounty hunters with no pvp based bounties SUCK. One issue I see is the BH appearing on the sith side and not neutral etc. thats just how it looks currently. Same with smugglers seeming like it might not be what most of us older gamers want....
Smugglers who actually smuggle and it's gives some satisfaction, instead of pretend smuggling like swg had.
Bounty hunters who actually can either do pve, or pvp bounties.....Really whats the point in just adding one if they cannot do it.
BUT anything has to be better than STO's pvp at the moment it's SO HORRID.
