The missing class: Bard

Once far back in times of old, a brave class stalked the land
They were always bold, and tended to form bands
They teamed with heros, yet there powers were fickle
and they weak against, say a strong Sickle
But they had powers which were great over the weak minded
for there music could leave you spell binded
But in times currently so, the bard has been forgot
the tales of old long lost, and all there trials for naught.
Were has the bard gone, with there sweet song?
For i miss them and i know they've been done wrong
Surely a music composer ingame to allow you to create music would be sweet
and then bards could travel the land earning there keep

The first quest which never ended is a mystery to me
I have not been there or seen what there is to see

UO was a really good game for Bards, but ya theyre pretty much being left out of new MMORPGs. Even though I never played one I know they can be a good class and alot of people like them.

By the way, never try to be a poet ::::35::

However, that could infringe on copyright,
whihc may land the developers in a big pile of shite.
Just look at the hero developer from city of heroes,
now they're bieng sued for a truck load of zeroes.

now they're bieng sued for a truck load of zeroes.

Is that actually going through? I mean, are they actually going to get the money?

PS. just to make my post relevant image, yeah I've played games with bards in them and enjoy having them around (just as long as they refrain from poetry).

EQ and EQ2 both have bards in them...also this console game called A Bards' Tale is pretty fun.

Fact is, developers got lazy and didn't want to breathe any originality or depth into their game. Bards were those things, and much more.

Type Seed Game into your search engine. Go to the game's website and learn about it. It may be the best game you've continued to ignore.

Why wouldst thou choose something so gay!

    I'd rather be a warrior a-slaying away.

As I pummel and parry, go slicing with dice

You pine and ponder with lyrics in trice

As I wound and sunder for damsels done wrong

You slip under their covers with treacle song

Nay I'd rather be a warrior a-slaying away

'Stead strumming my fingers for anothers day's pay!

I LOVED my UO bard, that was the funnest dam hunting I ever had even though everyone else would take my kill and my loot!

     PSSSsssTTT!!

Sounds like you are a prime candidate for the game Bard's Tale !

In fact, Bard's Tale was the first computer game to use that rhyming poetry type speak.

I love bard classes when they are done right, was disappointed they didn't have a musical class in WOW. Bards in EQ2 are nice, good fighting and songs, too bad I hate EQ2... but at least they got bards right.

i honestly agree... bards are extremely under played...

ive played bard class in many games and they are one of my top 3 favorite classes....

i would love to see a great game with bards...

The Bard (like the Ranger) is an awesome class that has been neglected in a few of the recently released games.

Even tho I found the poems in this thread extremely lame, I have to agree. I really, really like the idea of bards. Music to boost your team's morale, and music to make the enemy less sure of himself (kinda >.>;;)

I liked FFXI's bard. Only problem with it, was that it was kinda boring. You never participate in the fight, and nobody really understands exactly wat youre doing, n how complicated it really is (to put different buffs on different party members, without them overrighting, cuz theyre AOEs). On the other hand, youd never have to wait 6 hours for a party, cuz everyone wanted a bard in their party!

I like the idea of a bard class or job. I dont think I would really want it to be a side-game, like playing music for no reason.

Just having fun, getting into the spirit of the bard...didn't expect critique - but I guess in a forum I should have. image

The new xbox version looked like a funny game, but then I heard it wasn't so good. I still my try it out if it comes in a PC version.

    I haveth a largeth lovestick.

    I won!

  •   I was leafing through a book at a bookstore. And found out something intresting.

In the ancient following of the Druids there were 3 levels:

      1. Initiate

      2. Bard

      3. Druid.

Then Arch-Druid aka the leader of the Druids.

The Druids would pass on their super-secret arcane knowledge using rhyming poetry. There were over 20,000 rhyming poetry lines (The book did not say how many different poems there were.) that a follower on the level of Bard had to memorize before advancing to the next level. The Druids would meet in caves, woods, and the countryside to teach each other. The Isle of Man was a well known area controlled by Druids.
