HI

I only wanted to share a few game play hints for new players.

1.Collect all "shinys" outside Neriak and sell them at broker.

This way i earned 9 platinum in 2 hours with my lvl 7 char.

2.At lvl 14 you travel to Gorwyn (not sure of spelling) and change AA slidebar to 100 AA and do all quests untill they are yellow.

then return to Neriak.

this way you will get twice and many AA points and you will be able to solo easy.

3.Sell everything u find thats lore at Broker and before you sell it you do a search to compare the prices.

4.Sell all the "fertilized" stuff you find like bottle of pond water etc for between 10 and 20 gold.

I hope this will help out any new players who belives this game is only for lvl 80 players.

Regards Walder (sorry for my spelling... i have a swedish keyboard)

If it's very easy for Noobs, then it must be very easy for you :)

You travel there from Butcherblock (I think they changed from a separate griffon to the dock station now with the expansion). The city is however evil and GF works pretty fine from the start, it is the best good starter place until they get Hallas up. You can still do the quests as good but don't go into the city.

To get to the old parts of the game you can take the carpet to Sinking sands and then you can get a ride to Quenos or Butcherblock dock back (Right click on the mat you came with). The loot in these zones are somewhat old but the quest will give you fine enough xp and AA. There is also a bout from Butcherblock but the carpet is fast and safe.

Grey quest give very little xp and AA, avoid them if you can but in some cases you can do them (like you need them in a chain or have already completed them and just need to turn them in).

And you don't have to do all the quests, the content is massive and they have lowered the xp for leveling so do the quests you like. I never do these retarded "kill creatures to find pages for a book" quests, they were probably done on monday morning or something.

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe Gorowyn is an "Evil" side city, so you may not be able to do it if you're good aligned.

    Kelethin & Qeynos are good

Freeport, Gorowyn and Neriak are Evil.

When Halas is added, I believe it will be 3rd good city.

Both good and evil characters can do all the zones and content in EQ2 except for stuff in the starter cities (as noted above).

You may be able to do the stuff in Gorowyn that is outside of Gorowyn, but I'm not sure.   Gorowyn is a really great starting area, very good 1-20 gameplay.  Probably better than any of the other cities if you want nicely linear questline progression.

Generally, you can do most quests outside the starter cities and Freeport/Qeynos suburbs regardless of alignment. Just don't go near any guards or you'll die quick. You can do many of quests in the Freeport/Qeynos adventure zones as either side, but getting into them alive can be a challenge. Quests in the sewer areas of both cities are pretty wide open, once you get there. Gorowyn is evil-aligned, but they generally seem more neutral. You can do their starter quests without much hassle.

I've just started playing EQ2 not to long ago. I'd say roughly about a week. Here is my experience so far. Hopefully it will help some new players who are confused with what to do and where to go. I admit it can be overwhelming at times especially since there are 2 ways of leveling your character: leveling and AA's.

Firstly, I really only have experience with the evil side so obviously most of my hints will be geared towards evil players, although they will be applicable to good players as well.

    1. Start in Timorous Deep. The reasons for this are numerous. Firstly, it is the most recently added starting zone and in my opinion much more streamlined--you're always moving forward without a lot of running back. Other zones have missions which send you all the way to the start of the zone. Also, Timorous Deep offers the best quest rewards. These are especially important as being a brand new player you have no way to fund your new character and must rely on dropped items and quest rewards.

    2. Sell everything you don't need to vendors, except for collectibles, which you would use to fill your collections, which you would turn into collector NPCs for those AAs, experiences and sometimes items. So save the collectibles you don't need (you'll get doubles) and also, try to save all of the non-equipment items that have a "TREASURED" tag. Those items can sell for a lot on the broker. Not all, some are dirt cheap, although still more than the 7copper the vendor gives you.

    3. Start harvesting. It's a bit tedious but it's worth it. Besides the fact that you'll get materials to work on your crafting skills, sometimes, you'll get a rare material. Those are used for rare recipes which you don't need to level up your crafting. However, some of them sell for a lot of money on the broker. Usually priced at 20+ gold, which for a new player is a lot of money. Also, you want to harvest simply because you want to maintain your harvesting level around the same as the zone level. 1-10 areas require 0 harvesting, 10-20 areas require at least 20 harvesting and 20-30 areas require 90 harvesting.

    4. Work on your crafting. Besides items, some crafters create upgraded skill ranks for players. For example, jewcrafters create skill upgrades for scout classes, alchemists for fighter classes, etc. So pick a crafting skill that matches your class. Obviously you can buy those skills on the broker but since you're new, why waste the money?

    5. Once you hit level 10, you start to accumulate AA's, or Alternate Advancement points. These are pretty much like talent points in WoW, with one exception: you can pretty much get as many of them as you like without really being restricted by your character's level. There is a level restriction on how much you can spend in any one tree before level 70 but in your first 30+ levels, you don't have to worry about it. Mind you, if you ask other players, to get the most bang out of your class, and do a decent job in groups, you should at least have 100 AA points by the time you reach level 70.

The best way to get AA's, that I found (I'm sure there are better ways), is as follows. At level 20, turn your slider to 100. Press "L" to open up your AA screen and move the slider all the way to the right. This ensures that all of your XP from quests and kills goes towards AA's. Finish up your quests in Timorous Deep and go to other starting zones. Those zones being Darklight Wood and The Commonlands. You're only interested in level 10+ quests, since those are the ones that give you AA experience. Even grey quests give you AA experience as long as they are level 10 or over. So technically you can go back and do them at any level. However, at level 20, most of the mobs you will fight as part of those quests will be green to you and will also give you AA experience. At level 20, you're sufficiently high enough in level to breeze through the 10-20 content and get AA experience as fast as possible.

The quests you're most interested in start at Wanderlust Fair in Darklight Wood and Freeport's West Gate. Also, don't turn your collections in until after level 10 and when you do, make sure to set your slide bar to 100 before turning them in. Turn it back to 0 (or your desired setting) to continue leveling. Keep in mind, you can set the bar to other numbers which will always give a certain amount of your xp towards AA's. I usually keep it around 50 or so.

Named mobs: kill them! as long as they aren't gray, they give you a lot of AA experience and most drop items. Hence the reason for going back at level 20.

    6. A few parting words, don't be afraid to explore, there is some cool stuff out there. Download the EQ2Map add-on. It's a lifesaver especially since you probably would have no idea where to go. AA's are important. Not only do they make your character unique, they also make your leveling easier.

If you're a starting player on a 14-day trial, or like me (apparently I had an EQ2 account since 2005) use the /claim command in the game. You'll get some nice goodies that will help you out along the way.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask here, PM me on these forums or look me up in the game on the Everfrost server, my character's name is Disgruntled. I'll try to answer any questions you have to the best of my ability but keep in mind, I'm also new so I may not know the answer.

Hope to see you all in the game!

Thanks to everyone who post tips like that, its very useful since i never tought to thing like that to get more AA. I used the first one and had like 4 more AA by only doing quest at gorowyn beach and the green overlook. Pretty nice info. Now i'm heading to mok rent to continue until level 20 and then i'll head back to darkwood light to get more AA

I would set my AP slider to 30 - 40% and let it stay there the general consensus seems to be that it gives you a good leveling speed while still maintaining a good AP. Also do not forget the AP gains from exploration, named mobs and collections. Do visit all new zones that open up for you, always do the nowadays somewhat obsolete Griffon quests in Thundering steppes and Nektulous. Explore and do dare to leave the beaten path EQ2 is a huge game and there is a lot of interesting content.
