I don't know exactly what happened... but over the past year or so the developer's corner has flat out died. With its limited accessibility (I mean come on it is hardly on the front page) and mere 4-5 active users... I think it is time to do something with it. Development should be something that interests most people on this site, considering they complain about the products/features previously created. Does anyone have any ideas in making MMORPG's developer's corner more successful?

Give a cool title for regulars? Idk, lol.
Check out the MUD I'm making!
"The place where we solve your problems?"
I think MMO complaints should be included in the same section as the developer's corner.
Could they be embarrassed?

I don't know about that, The Pub has been able to handle that for years without problems. Maybe constructive criticism instead along with ideas and philosophies on MMOs. But then again I think there is already a forum for that.

I just don't think there is enough constructive feedback to put the effort into sharing ideas.
It took me over a year of daily visiting to notice the developer' corner hiding in that little space so i wouldn't be surprised if others couldn't find it either. Also most MMO concepts and the like are usually just posted here on the pub for faster answers.
Lots of us have been saying that the Developer's Corner should be made much more prominent. For some reason, the staff are unwilling to do so.
It's one of the only two forums that have a link to them on every forum, thread and post page.
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

Simply there are too many people who have lots of brilliant ideas that they want to hold onto. I often find myself making an entire post then not hitting the post button simply cause I am trying to follow through with my own crude and simplistic game. It doesn't matter how dismal the chances of making a product are, people still hold onto what they believe to be good ideas.
I'll ease your concerns : Your ideas are worthless. They are dime a dozen and are already sitting in a database or wiki in triplicate in almost every game developer's office at this very moment. It's actually making it work that gives it any slight worth. If it works and it's also engaging/fun to the target audience, then it moves from any slight worth to something that's got significant value to it.
The BEST thing you can do for yourself is to post your idea so that you can refine it, build on it, and maybe find one or two people to work with you to bring it to fruition.
Post your ideas, share them, work out the kinks and expand on the parts that people enjoy. Don't fear someone stealing your idea. Anyone in movies, gaming or any other entertainment industry can tell you that a 'great idea' and a token will get you on a bus.

I believe that forum is a vestigal product from the past. When this website started up, I am sure they were aiming to bring in anybody related to MMOs in anyway.
Now its several years down the road and this site has a different target audience than the original idea concived. And it is to be expected, things change. Anyone with real development seriousness would not spend their time here but out in the field and in their offices on production and whatnot, not posting here on getting ideas.
MMOs Played: I can no longer list them all in the 500 character limit.
Yeah, I think that sounds about right. There was a time when when it wasn't uncommon for real developers to post on this site although I don't know if they ever spent much time in the developers corner. I've noticed over the years that this has become less and less common.
At this point I think the only "developers" who post on the developers corner aren't so much developers but rather wanna-be developers or posers. Mostly just isolated individuals daydreaming about being developers or some guy wanting to get attention by pretending he's got more going on than he really does.
Other than that it's mostly just people who like talking about ideas and don't pretend to be developers but we can do that in the pub.
Agreed. I have lots of stuff I've wanted to post as well, but then I realize that every mmo out today is trash and if I could somehow produce my ideas I'd make a fortune. Why would I want to give that info away (although odds are that the same stuff has been thought of countless times before). Not to mention of course how would I get the hundreds of millions required to make it? I know it's silly and laughable but still makes sense.
Goes a long ways towards explaining why the devs today seem so out of touch with gamers. Then again, who really cares about gamers. It's the masses that they care about now.

I think there is a spark of truth here. There might be some occasional insightful discussion but it is few and far between (in my opinion). There are more focused forums elsewhere.
I like this site but it is akin to jumping in the community pool at mid summer
I like some of the articles featured in the frontpage. Maybe these articles are the new "developper forum"... I mean, a better way for people "in the know" to share his opinions to a broad audience.
The developers corner is where occasionally a person posts saying how they want to make the next amazing MMO all by themselves with 0 experience. Then everyone trying to explain to them why that's crazy, and a couple other people thinking it's the most fantastic idea ever.
Then they realize they can't even come close to making an MMO and they stop posting.
This section is probably so dead because all those people finally realized they can't make MMOs.
Far as I am concerned the pub is a better place to discuss such ideas. I just don't see the need for different forums.
I don't think you really thought that post through, Zax.

Then you probably must watch this video:
Dev's are targeting now no-Gamers, to have a even bigger number of users.

The crowd here isn't "The Gamers." It's a very small subset of them. It is a tiny fraction of the market, and that broader group encompasses a far more diverse and far larger playerbase than I guess a lot of the people here would like to believe. Ever read a post where someone is contending that their preferred version of PVP, crafting, roleplay, looting, raiding, etc is the 'real' way for 'real' gamers? You've just gone there.

Same here I've not found that section for over a year. 2nd I'm not even sure I'm allowed to post there.
Developers corner makes the impression it is for developers only. I do like reading the topics there.
I use to post there but I kind of stopped since the forum is well like the OP said 'dead'
I have gone elsewhere to discuss ideas and drop in to the pub everyday or so to browse the topics and maybe post something.

Yes ideas are a dime a dozen so they say. Still does not mean that mine are worthless as you are outright proclaiming. The old saying genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration also holds true. The fact that I am working towards my own small goals justifies me not divulging my own thoughts to complete strangers.
You don't know what is best for everyone although your suggestion may hold true for the majority it is not a one size fits all type of deal. Not everyone needs validation from a forum.

I agree with Loktofeit. Your ideas are worthless until put to the test. You can hold the idea and make it a half baked end product or get a discussion going and refine it.
Many an idea look great on paper and to the one writing it but in actual world it may be the worst idea because it is flawed. You never know of the flaws until it is to late then you rewrite the game and change it which causes issues and may lead to failure of the game. Once a game goes live it is much harder to fix something without pissing someone off. Sometimes the changes are so dramatic it changes the way the game was intended to be played and you loose almost all your playerbase.
A large mainstream can absorb some loss of player base but I as a micro indie dev can't afford a loss of players. I don't have money to throw at development, advertisement and hype so it is by forums that I get the ideas ironed out. Since we have the test server up now I don't have a great deal of time to discuss things because we are now implementing many discussed ideas here. After that we will again discuss the changes after we test the ideas out.
I just think the developers corner needs to get more attention from player not just devs.
