This just dawned on me as I was reading another one of those ad nauseam threads about 2012. Here's the question:
If the governments of the world discovered that life on earth was going to be destroyed, and there was nothing humans could do to stop it, do you think they would make that information public, which would most likely cause a worldwide panic, or do you think they would just keep it quiet and let everyone go about their merry way until the end came?
Do you think it would even be possible to keep a lid on something like that or would the news be too huge to keep secret?
It obviously would have to be something that happened very quickly giving people very little time to react to it. If it were a long drawn out process, I'm sure we'd probably figure it out before the end came.

That is an interesting idea to think about... Honestly, I think they would keep it secret because if it is let out there are some people who would go nuts. There would more than likely be a dramatic increase in crime and thefts. Also, what if they were wrong? They tell the world and all of these crimes happen, cities are demolished from people going bonkers, and they're wrong... The world would be shattered and human population never the same...
Yea it would have to be kept secret. If there was a chance the world would end there would be huge pillaging, looting, murder and assault.
If you don't tell people, the worst case is we all die. Best case, we all live and nothing happens.
You tell people, some people live a happier last little while, others suffer, worst case the world plunges into anarchy and has trouble rebuilding.

How is a pencil pushing goverment worker going to discover the end of the world before anybody else and if a non-government group found out first do you really think the government would be the second ones to find out?
The scientists would alert their peers for confirmation.
The better question would be - would the doomsayers be believed?

If it was me, i would've kept it a secret. I mean we're not going to be saved rather live your life freely then be depressed knowing your gonna die soon not thinking about all the violence and chaos that this would also bring.
I for 1 think the world could do with a little chaos to knock the current inadequate/ incompetent powers out of power. IE the out of control US gov and the EU socialist crap. I say get rid of it all and start from scratch. Honestly though the governments of the world have so much power and control over your every day life that you wouldn't hear a peep about anything approaching an apocalypse proportion. They would kill off / silence as many people as it took and even if a few did make it though they would so thoroughly destroy and discredit those people that no 1 would believe a word they say. I mean take the Global warming crap they've been feeding us for years. They cant keep backing up the lies with fact so they silence and discredit anyone that speaks out the truth that HEY the world is actually cooling , the polar caps ARENT melting the world is not going to be flooded, and even if it were HUMANS didn't cause it.
The way the current US gov is going with there law practices ATM ( passing the health care crap) and many other things there pushing through to try and turn this country into a communist / socialist wet dream without even 1/3 of the countries approval tells you just how much power the current governments have.
Basically if something big enough to wipe out civilization ( i say civilization because the planet will be here long after we are) were to be on the horizon you the average person would never know until its to late.
