Hello there!
I have to problems / issues that I need help with if at all possible.
Firstly, Im looking for a budget PCI-E GPU, for roughly £50-60.
I had previously encountered the Saphire 4670 512mb for about £55~
but I just checked online today and i can get a PowerColour HD 4850 512mb for £63~
The 4850 is on sale, previously about £90, so my question really is;
is the powercolour 4850 a gaming card?
or is there a reason its drastically reduced?
would it be better to get the 4670?
or a completely different card?
My second query is one to do with my TV. I just bought a 28" Full HD 1080p Hannspree TV and plugged the VGA cable into it from my pc from my old GPU (1800x). Unless its me being stupid, I was thinking that because its a full HD tv, surely I should be able to set the PC resolution to 1920x1080, but instead it wont even recognize my 1680x1050 native res. Is there a reason for this? Im having to lower the res to about 1400x900 or something? is there a fix around this? do i need a GPU with a hdmi cable or something like that?

i suggest you put more money and buy a dx11 ready card it will last you years and you wont have to upgrade if you decide
to play lord of the ring online in dx11 mode.
not sure since i dont see your tv but you will probably be using a hdmi cable or such ,mine was a white cable.since every country is probably diff maybe someone here can help.

but arent all dx11 cards vastly overpriced at the moment?
wouldnt it be a better idea to wait til the cards are mass produced with dx11,
like my friend got a 8800GTX when it was brand new , and for the same equivalent / slightly better not he would be paying a fraction of the price. I was more planning on upgrading from dx9 to dx10 now, then saving up for a dx11 card when theyre a bit cheaper. Im one of those people that refuses to pay for technology as soon as its released im afraid
Ive considered lotro, but i think dx10.1 will suffice for now! do you happen to know about the 4850 at all?

no i use an old 8800gt for now i wait for the new dx11 nvidia card to come out but i might have to go ati since nvidia wont be ready for a while if any of the underground chat is true.dx10 is nice thats what i use.
but lotr should gain a lot with dx11 since its fairly new and already use dx10.i m playing the trial and i like what i see.
havent checked ati card in a while ,back then i had problem so i had switched to nvidia.maybe somebody else can help
there a dude on you tube that test ati card he event test eye finity or whatever the name is .i ll try to find his tread again ,might help you a bit.
I would go for the 4890 seeing how its a lot better for gaming or maybe 5750 which is a bit cheaper but still got good performance + dx 11 support. Otherwise you could just wait a few months and get a 5850.
For your TV it might be that your graphic card doesnt support the resolution (maybe its in wide screen?) but you should be able to force it into 1920x1080

There's no point in buying dx11 cards as soon as they come out. As it was already stated, the dx11 are heavily overpriced atm, and they are still the first generation so even better cards come out soon after their release.
Also only dirt 2 uses DX11 atm, and lotro uses the basic dx11 implementation, that is the one which doesn't require a dx11 gpu to use.
They actually aren't overpriced at all. You can get a 5770 for $155 and it's actually faster than the $180 GTX260 in 7 out of 13 benchmarks. That's a good price, good performance, and performance just went up in 9.12 drivers which haven't been benched yet.
The 5850 is also faster than its $300 competition, and the 5870 at $400 is priced just above the GTX285 that it crushes and $100 below the GTX295 that it barely loses to. The 5970 is priced $100 above a GTX295 and what, 50%-70% faster?
But I don't see a problem getting a 4850 at all. A 5750 would probably barely be able to handle DX11 so you'd really want to buy a 5770 if you want DX11, so you'd have to be ready to spend $155.
i have a 4850 and its great. i would check the warranty for that powercolor card. if its good go for it. dont buy a dx11 card right now. being a early adopter is never a good idea. 4850's are cheap right now and if you have a crossfire capable board you could always get another later.
my only other suggestion would be to save up and get the better 4870.

They are cheap maybe, but kinda hard to find. New dx11 cards are superior against old in almost every possible way. Never suggest sli/crossfire with low budget as it brings many unwanted features, microlag, scaling problems and such.
I have a 5770, it cost me less than a GTX 260 and is atleast on a par with it. It's DX11 ready and the drivers are good, no tweaking needed. The card runs superbly and the only reason not to buy one is your budget, however considering they're cheaper than a 260 and if you're gonna buy nVidia anything less than a 260 is pretty much rebranded crap I say go for the 5770.

Take it from someone who bought a 1st generation DX10 card, and DON'T buy the 1st gen DX11 card.
They aren't that bad, considering they eat a lot less than their 4xxx brothers and they are fairly stable.
Of course, I'd wait to see what Nvidia offers(if that will ever happen) before I'd take a long-term decision.

Waiting isn't smart move, fermi comes at march-april at earliest.
I waited as long as I could, which was until the Sapphire 5770 was showing up for $155 shipped free, awesome deal.
