Windows Media Player Subtitles

rathmarathma Member UncommonPosts: 3,786

I am getting so angry with Windows Media Player (not that I wasn't already before) now that I can't simply put my subtitle and make it view with my .avi file.

I would happily use one of my many other players, but the file I have must be retarded or something. If I play it with any other media player it doesn't show up, nothing happens. And when I scan it with Gspot It can't even do that. So i'm stuck with trying to use windows media player.

Can anyone help me out? I have an avi video file and a .smi subtitle file and I just want them to work together. I have tried plugins but most of them don't work.

Have you tried Divx? It is the only player I know of that shows subtitles. If that does not work you need some winamp extension.

DivX is a player? I thought it was a codec. And I guess I don't have the player then, only the codecs. But the video probably wouldn't play anyways on divx. I just need to get the subtitles to work for Windows Media Player or use a program that actually puts the subtitles INTO the video as one file.

I dotn know if this will work since I rarel use media player, but go to 'play' then 'captions and subtitiles' and if they are available they will be turned on... again im not sure if this will work but its better than not trying I guess.

That's exactly what I did, however nothing happens when i turn them on. The main reason is you can't choose the subtitle file you want to be played, so I have no idea how the subtitle would get turned on anyways even if it is activated.

I am asking the somethingawful forums for you since I only JUST finished DL'ing Appleseed and ironically the subtitles are not working properly.

Thanks for posting in the forums i'll go to the site. *EDIT* Nevermind I have to register to check it.

But as for yourself, If you have a non-retarded file (which you probably do) then download BS Player. It's very subtitle friendly.

People think this is a stupid question so I got flamed. Anyways, they suggest the Defiler Pack. In the Defiler Pack you will need the VCfilter.

Sweet it works thanks. The subtitles are pretty bad I just found out. Like they can't spell the word "wizard" properly they spelt it "wizar". Awesome movie though.

Howl's Moving Castle. Can't wait 'till it comes to the theaters in my area (If it ever does).

Assuming you're talking about playing an ogg file, I had that problem a while ago too. I downloaded this: DirectVobSub and this: OggDS and they work fine now.

And Howl's Moving Castle is fantastic, maybe my second or third favorite Miyazaki film. Mononoke and Nausicaa are my other 2 favorites. I can't wait to see Howl's in theaters though.

Indeed, how good was the quality on yours? Whenever mine moves everything gets blurry somewhat.

Anyways, It doesn't come to theaters till June, and I highly doubt it's the big theaters either.

Mine works fine in WMP, pretty good picture. I noticed that the file size was really small for that movie, so the resolution is probably pretty small, that might be it. I watched it in full screen and it was kind of blocky, but bareable.

I got a couple indie theaters around here, hopefully one of them will get it. Appleseed wasn't at any of them though... so I'll just cross my fingers.

Mine was about 700 megs so the quality was good. Just gets blurry because video cameras that are taping an animated film tend to do that.
