When clicking to reply on forum topics, windows tries to install something

darklordnessdarklordness Member Posts: 5

I noticed today that when you click on REPLY to a post, one of two things happens..

either the frames load up butthe middle is black, or the frames load up and then I get this wierd windows installer message like its trying to install some kind of windows app.  If I hit cancel a few times.. the editor mode box, emotionicons, and topic field show up.  If I get the black box in the middle.. and reload.. there is about a 40% chance that I'll actually get the editor box.  This is a very wierd problem image

on an unrelated note: why are these jackasses posting EQ and WOW bugs all over this forum?? image  Do they not read that this is a bug forum for your site? ::sigh::

Well it might be the matrix online adds that try to download and install A Avenue Inc or something like that.. its like some tracking cooky or a bit of spyware, either way, anoying. And are you also talking about when u hit reply and you just dont get the grey text box and its just a bunch of scramble? Well not scremple, saying there is an error withing the DB code and stuff like that. So annoying... some times its like 3 days before i can even post a reply to something.

its probably installing silently in the background... I don't trust firefox.. some one was bragging about it to me, i asked them to check out a site in it, and the site didn't load properly at all. It's supposed to be so great and it couldn't understand some basic scripting. Probably is better than IE, but hey at least IE is more largely compatible, i got spybot search and destroy 1.3, anti vir, and NIS protecting my system from even downloading shit ont othis computer, so i just see that it has blocked the download of Ad Avenue Inc... If you don't have any detection set up properly, sometimes it silent downloads itself, sometimes it trys to but u get a cancel button.

Its coming from the matrixonline adverts on this site. They are the only ones not hosted by mmorpg.com.. and they have that tracking cookie in it. Rather annoying... I never look at matrix online stuff now...

Its like people who spam.. any company i get spam from i just instantly black list in my mind. For one if they have to spam people to get sales then they are obviously not a good company. Spam is annoying, especially when it fills up your mailbox and ur friends and work emails don't get through... i've actually lost work cos of spam... so i'm bitter to any company that does it... same with popups, but they all get blocked these days.

One word n00bs, You say IE is better then firefox please you no nothing, 1st get your comp that is riddled with trojans and format the harddrive cause you don't know how to get rid of them, then put windows 98 or xp on it, now that the hard part is gone go download the new version of firefox and firefox doesn't sliently install stuff in the backround I don't know about the old versions but the new versions don't. Whoever says IE is better then firefox they are really big n00bs and if you don't like firefox go with opera of whatever its called IE is the internet browser that downloads in the backround without you knowing it and thats why you have somemany trojans on your comp and its so slow.

IE is by no means a GOOD browser.... I mean look.. Microsoft had to intigrate it into windows otherwise they knew no one would use it.

But its the most compatible. Most people use IE, therefore most sites are designed to be looked at through IE. This problem stems back to when it was the early versions of IE and netscape... back in the day netscape couldn't handle the Marquee tag, and IE couldn't handle the Blink tag... years down the line.. not much has really changed. Like my example in the previeous post about the site that wouldn't even load properly for my friend using the "Superior" firefox and did for me.

I know alot of people in the computer industry and most of them swear by firefox too.. but being techy people most of the sites they look at have been designed to work in firefox.. and it probably is a hell of alot faster.

But thats another thing. People used to say to me.. USE NETSCAPE.. and later USE MOZILLA there FASTER... well through trial and error.. IE was faster on every occasion. Yet another reason why i wont move to firefox.

Things get too hyped up by people that really dont know about them and it loses face with me.

I don't know if i ever will switch over to firefox. Seems like a wasted download for now.

well i mentioned the same problem a couple weeks back...still no response from the site?Does anyone care here?  or is anyone in charge of fixing bugs?.It has nothing to do with trojans like the one person calling others noobs said >>big LOL.I have zero unwanted files[period] on my comp,as i check almost every day thru an online site.Wich is far better than any home version, for the simple reason that its updated everyday, whereas most people never update there proggies.Another thing made me laugh ,is that it has nothing to do with your browser.I have had no problems here in the past an tons of people are using IE,as well as others. The only thing i added,as was also mentioned, was microsoft office. This is  a common proggy installed on alot of computers. Therefore the applet in java form or whatever should be made compatible or fixed.

Again....no response from site?  maybe they dont care..hmmm.

Sorry I am so damned late on this....

ACTUALLY this is caused by our ActiveX forum editor.  It uses a component that is common in Office 2000 or Office XP.  If you have Office installed it can ask you to insert your CDs...this is a bug with Office since this component is on ALL Windows XP installs.

    This is documented here:
