    I don't really care about the graphics of a game I just want it to play well.   With a good story and good game play a game can pull you in making you not even care about the graphics.
    I can understand people being concerned about this game. I think I have been burnt enough times by the hype of a game. That's why I don't buy MMOs day one anymore.  I wait for the first few months to settle down to decide if I want to get the game or I just ask my brother as he will most likely buy a game before me.
    With that being said I am breaking my own rule with this game. 99% change i will be there day one.

           I feel the same way. Just from the videos of game play so far it looks to be a lot of fun. It does look more like a SPG than a MMO at this point, but still looks fun.

    I would guess that the MMO part will be large cities and open areas on planets with lots of instances to get into the story. The cities and open areas will be quest hubs and grinding spots for material and crafting I bet. None of us have any idea at this point though.

    Either way, I will be playing this game just from what I have seen so far. It will be worth the money regardless of longevity.

    Wow, man, you nailed it! That's' exactly what it would seem BioWare's leading this game to. I didn't have the courage to come out and say it myself, but that's because IT'S TOTALLY FRIGGIN' RETARDED! The OP makes about as much sense as someone shoving their head up a horse's ass to receive eternal youth. Sure, it's possible. But then again, so is lobbing your nuts off. No one in their right mind would do it, and BioWare just so happens to be in their right mind. I mean, there's a possibility the game won't be perfect, but I accept that. But the OP has no clue as to what they're talking about.

    Yet I understand the psychological aspect behind such bashing. These people that burn TOR have been burnt in the past by other [less reputable devs], so they feel that retaliating early on will help keep their shields up when TOR releases and it isn't what they expected. But if, when released, the devs actually prove to not mislead their consumers, what will people like you and the OP say then? Understandably nothing. So, without adding little "sarcasm boxes" above, I do understand where all the hate is coming from. It's not really hate. It's "hope" in the form of skeptimism and pessimism. And perhaps a little hatemongering. But that's alright. Without you guys, we'd have nothing to do on these forums in between updates.

    *Imperial Agent/Spy - Spy

    * Jedi - Jedi

    There are two class un-announced.  Look to SWG to figure it out.  It's the same game basically, why can't they add something new?  I see the same things I can do in SWG.  Lightsaber throws, force lightning, calling in an air attack with the spy.  *yawn*  I would imagine it will be more SWG NGE 2.0 than you think, some of the old SWG devs are on this project.  SWG 2.0 we do not need, the current game isn't very good.

    I just want to point out how stupid this complaint is.  The game draws from the exact same source material, what exactly do you expect.

    It is a REALLY stupid complaint.

    TO the OP:

    All those classes are iconic with Star Wars. Sorry that you don't get to play a dancer or moisture farmer, but well, do you really expect  them to make heroic missions for that kind of tripe? If you want to play something different then go play a game that isn't based on the very classes that you are whining about.

    To the OP:

    Dude, you disagreeing with some of the design decisions is NOT the same as this game having actual problems.  Plenty of people are actually satisfied and maybe even excited about the development of the game so far.

  • PurpleCliffPurpleCliff Member UncommonPosts: 156

     All I have to say is that I disagree with all of your points, OP.

    Mostly the classes being similar to SWG. What do you want? How can they be more different? This is still Star Wars ...

    And it's not like it's a bad thing if they are similar to SWG ... having similarities with SWG doesn't instantly make it a bad game. And SWG was really good once.

    And personally I think the graphics rock ... I love the way it's dark and realistic, but also smooth and shiny. It's good to look at for long periods of time.

    If you look at recent screenshots, the lightsabers have been shrunk down to the same size as they are in the Saga. So they've delt with that.

    On space combat ... we don't know yet if it will be in the game at launch. Personally I'd prefer if they launch without space combat, and nail all the other content (which is far more vast than any other MMO)

    And we can't possibly tell how linear the world will be from the small amount of footage we've seen.

    I agree with the smuggler point, what will be the purpose/usefulness of the smuggler class?

    Same could be asked about bounty hunter, can you not bounty hunt? I'd imagine if one of the game mechanics don't take advantage of being able to actually smuggle things for players or hunt them, the smuggle/hunt part will be in your story. In the smuggler demo they said they was doing a quest to smuggle some guns. Hopefully these type of things can be done outside of quests.

    No offense- None of  this matters to me and I won't care until I actually play the game.  At this point it is all pipe dreams for good or bad. I know I am going to play an Imperial agent. yes I hear the same language of Lucas Arts fucking up SWG. But I just don't care.

    "I want to be excited for this game" is a copout excuse to unfairly critisize the game b4 you've even played it. Sad. Then dont play it even though it 9 months away from going live and you dont like the way it looks right now.

    I lost most of my  respect for your post when you started hating on the graphics....im not saying that its not nice to see a game with killer graphics that is beautiful and breathtaking but mmos are not the place for that.

    My reasoning is not a new revelation but something i have read and heard multiple times and that is,people want to play a game that doesn't require them to upgrade and spend hundreds on there computer.

    Its plain and simple WoW is of course the biggest example, you can play (WoW) with a crappy computer and still experience a LARGE amount of the gameplay its why the game is so big people who have not spent the large amount of money it takes to run a game with new age graphics can still run WoW and enjoy it for what it is.

    With Swtor there is a choice make it with incredible graphics and have a small community made of hardcore mmorpg enthusiasts or give it stylized graphics that will appeal to the masses and give this game a chance of spawning a large community.

    P.S. I truly wanted to rant a little more because your problem with the graphics annoyed me so much but you brought up a couple of other points that could be major problems unless they are taken care of.....so the entirety of your post WASNT a complete annoyance.

    "but the style itself seems to be a few years outdated and done in a way that just looks... well, like a cartoon. I'm not saying that this game is for kids, I'm just saying I'd prefer it to look like it was more realistic. Why can't it be?"

    "Realism age faster then you and me. In two years it will be considered "old". To be honest I don't mind realism, but cartoon like art doesn't bother me either. You already claim to not like it, so I don't think that will change ever."

    The style looks like a compromise of the two. It doesn't look too cartoon or too realistic (to me anyway).

    It's not so much that realism ages poorly, it just requires 10x more effort, talent and resources ($$$) to do effectively. That's why everything you see on Cartoon Network uses simplistic character design formulas. They can be cranked out quickly and efficiently using parts libraries and animation software like Toon-Boom.

    More so for MMO's. Stylistic choices have more to do with expediency and simplicity than anything. The initial descision to make a world super detailed/realistic will affect cost and production.

    - (Coruscant maybe not as big as you think)

    At first I was really excited about Coruscant.  One of my major fears about the game has always been it's going to be small and linear ala Rage of the Wookies' Kasshykk in SWG.  Upon your first glance of Coruscant, that big reveal video, it appears huge!  But after watching it a few times.  They are only showing you I think four areas?  The landing platform area, the shuttle area, inside a building and the lower level.  They just show it from different angles.  Is it going to be primarily just composed of these areas, which look kind of small if you look carefully.
    For them to have a city the size of a world playable in the game would mean that they would have to cut other things out, reason Size, to make the perfect mmo would take up over 100 gigs, but so long as that city gives me a good feel im ok with It, so I would say the size of 2 Stormwinds.

    - (The world itself seems too linear)

    Watch the smuggler video.  Doesn't it seem like from where he starts, he really can only follow a path down?  It doesn't look like he can travel to the left or right without hittin ga wall.  Which to me would be a super big dissapointment.

    - (The graphics, why?)

    Why do the graphics have to look the way they do?  Why can we not get a more realistic approach?  I was really i'mpressed by the cinematic trailer, but the style itself seems to be a few years outdated and done in a way that just looks... well, like a cartoon.   I'm not saying that this game is for kids, I'm just saying I'd prefer it to look like it was more realistic.  Why can't it be?
    Makes the game timeless and also makes it so you don't need a $3,000 computer to run the game, Look at WoW on this one, there style made the game timeless and playable by PC 10 years old, also more room for content, real Graphics take up to much GiGs look at AoC 30 gigs to install with a world the size of half of wow eastern kingdom, im sorry I want content over looks, I want a massive world with tons to do also a seamless world for the most part with very little zoning, and the only way to get this with out a game taking up 100 gigs of harddrive space is to go AkA cartoon route.

    - (The characters models and Races/Species)

    So how much do we get to customize these guys?  From what I've seen, it doesn't look like much.  It looks like the same faces over and over.  How come they have shown NO other races beyond human in any of their class reveals?  Why can't they tell us what we are going to be able to play as already?  I'm worried there won't be as much diversity among species as there should be.
    - (It's just SWG NGE 2.0)

    You don't think so?  It's the same damn classes from SWG pretty much.
    * Smuggler - Smuggler

    * Trooper - Commando

    *Imperial Agent/Spy - Spy

    * Jedi - Jedi

    *Sith Warrior - Jedi/Dark Jedi (you can do force lightning even though you are a "jedi" in SWG, which makes little sense, so it's kind of a combination)

    * Bounty Hunter - Bounty Hunter

    - (The Lightsabers are too big)

    Why are they humongous?  They look ridiculous.

    - (No Space?  No ships? Missing the point on Smuggler?)

    I think it's lame to launch it without the addition of space.  It is STAR wars.  The smuggler class should revolve strongly around having personalized, customizable ships.  If they want to play up Han Solo and make the Smuggler iconic, they need to realize that they care a LOT about their ships.  This would be a big part of the game for me and the main reason I'd play Smuggler.  What does the smuggler do?  He kicks people in the ballas and shoots from a distance?  Anything else to entice players to play as this?  Not really.  SWG took out spices, I think Smugglers should be able to actually SMUGGLE in this game but I have heard no mention of this... there obviously should be a big emphasis then on ships and smugglers.  And they haven't even talked about ships or space.  Ridiculous.  Again, SWG 2.0 with a launch without space...
    - (Did I mention the graphics kind of suck?)

    They do.

    I mean, i want to be excited.  But I see a small world, with cartoony graphics, instanced to death that will repeat too much of what SWG did.  Except with voice acting.  I mean that is cool and all, but story only goes so far.  What GAMEPLAY mechanique will they put in this thing to make it stand out and make it fun?  I don't want another SWG.  The first one sucked.j

    The game will not be for everyone, but for those that want content over pixels this will be there game for sure, in the end It will be WoW and Tor as far as the big dogs on the block go for at least 3/4 more years and its because timeless, cartoon PC friendly , massive content approach.

    My biggest concern with the graphics relates to the overall target audience. Not that the cartoons aren't awesome and cool, but if the community is made up of very young people then the game as a whole is going to have a completely different ... environment.

    Like the difference between a seedy bar and a junior high cafeteria ...

    I think that anyone coming to make a topic about SW:TOR and asking if it will be a sandbox at this stage of the game's development is probably internet trolling.
    As for areas shown...this is Bioware, they are one of the most secretive, close to the chest gaming companies around. Why spoil it all now? They gave a taste, teased you with their ideas and the rest will come out when you play.
    Definitely, wait to game release before saying the game is small...
    The smuggler video is hard to say, it was a set demo showing specifics they wish to highlight for the media and public. Also it could have been a task he accepted and so was linear in that regard. I mean if the smuggler has a task at hand, why would he be roaming all over the place? He would go to where his task is and do what needed doing to complete it.
    Basing far to much on that video with little to base your assumptions off of.
    Demo footage won't tell you how the actual game plays, it just give you an idea of the look and what it might be able to accomplish.

    I personally enjoy the graphics. I am sick of realism in MMO at this point mainly because they seem to always suffer in some areas, it makes the game less accessible and they do not age well. Case in point, look at EQ2 and WoW. When EQ2 launched the graphics were really impressive, now however they look terrible bland and dated. WoW on the other hand due to having their own stylized graphics still retains a charm to it.
    EQ2 had a few problems on launch, but I agree, WoW's stylised art holds up still, they have though tinkered with the graphics shaders as they went along with the game, and that helped too.

    We know little just need to be patient and have faith in Bioware which much like Blizzard has never made a terrible game. If you like the style of Bioware games and see that they have similar aims with their mmo, they you will probably enjoy what they deliver. If you do not like their style of games then I doubt you will care for their mmo.
    I think it will be a treat myself. By making the game an immersive story driven experience that is solo friendly they will appeal to a large mass audience on launch. If there is a diverse and large player base on launch it will make the grouping parts of the game more desirable to play.

    I've seen many people imply that if TOR isn't a sandbox, it will fail. This is sheer nonsense.

    So I started to walk into the water. I won't lie to you boys...I was terrified. But I pressed on, and as I made my way past the breakers, a strange calm came over me. It's not so much just "sandbox" anymore that's a concern as that was cleered up almost 2 years ago now, as with all mmo's it needs to set itself apart from it's competitors in some way to really succeed. Aside from a ridiculous amount of voice work it's essentially the same old, same old. There's really nothing (based on confirmed info) that will set this game apart from it's peers.

    I'm really done giving a shit about all of this stuff.  I was totally stoked when I heard Bioware was making a Star Wars MMO because I loved SWG back in the day and I still get the Kotor games out from time to time and play them through.  That's the end of it for me, I am a Star Wars fan and no matter if the game sucks ass I'm still going to play it.  The length of time I play is the only factor in question, and that's the end of it for me.  /shrug
