I'm just curious, but are there any MMO's out there that have actively changing season? If not, why wouldn't they? It seems like that would be a very unique addition to any gaming world.

Wouldn't that essentially be designing 4 game worlds, but only using each one 25% of the time. That seems like it's asking a whole lot.
But then again, maybe we could evolve weather effects to the point where the environment reacts to them, in a script or something. So perhaps have weather follow a particular pattern and have trees and grass react to those conditions. Like the browning of leaves, or becoming covered in snow. Maybe that approach would be more practical, although that's a lot of work for an ambiance. The compromise most MMO's go for are zones themed around different biomes. I think that's the best we're going to get anytime soon.
MMOs played: Horizons, Auto Assault, Ryzom, EVE, WAR, WoW, EQ2, LotRO, GW, DAoC, Aion, Requiem, Atlantica, DDO, Allods, Earth Eternal, Fallen Earth, Rift

That may be difficult to accomplish. There are some games with areas, like Misty Mountains in LotRO, that have only one season, Winter. The only way that would work is if each area of the game looked about the same. So, you wouldn't have the desert regions, or rain forests, or the Misty Mountain areas. That may become rather boring seeing the same area all the time, just with different weather for the seasons.
I guess you are right. I remember pondering the same thing with weather a few years back...such as having a monsoon season. A few friends were debating the merits of having weather a more interactive and such. I guess it would have to be less thematic and more central to the games core mechanics or possible gameplay.
Doesn't Ryzom have this?
"Good? Bad? I'm the guy with the gun."
Yes it has and it's awesome =]
Yup ryzom has seasons... and yes they kinda did put the effort into making the world different for each one. You can only find certain plants in spring for example... and other plants are only harvestable in fall etc. Just adds one more layer on a freakin awesomely complex crafting system...
Correct me if I'm wrong too but I believe the monsters also alternate with grazing/hunting habits etc... considering that the carnivores will follow the grazing animals.
