Other than that it seems like AION is the game WAR should have been. Too bad it has that weird Anime style, really hate that and probably the main reason why I wont like the game.

Gotta admit the anime thiing is a turn off for me too. I really do not want to be this guy:

Gotta cringe every time some Caucasian talks about something being "too 'Anime"

'Anime' refers to Japanese animation, and it consists many different visual styles, from Dragonball to Witch Hunter Robin. It wouldn't bug me as much if specific artists or studios were mentioned, but people tend to generalise too much.

Saying Aion is too 'Anime' is like saying Warcraft is too 'Disney'. Actually AION is not anime at all. It's much closer to Guildwars and I aint heard that called anime. And one thing is for sure the graphics are way ahead of Warhammer, Chronicles of Spellborn or AoC. There is huge diversity of charcter creation in Aion. The character creation system uses slider values similar to the one used in Oblivion. You can create a character that looks like Gandalf or Aragorn if you like.

There are 20+ premade faces but each face can be manipulated. Eye shape, eye height, nose shape, nose height, nose protrusion, ear shape, lip shape, jaw shape. The list goes on and on. So you could start with an anime charcter and turn it into anything you want. If your fancy takes you, you can make Barak Obama with angel wings!

    Are these AION images anime?

    http://img151.imageshack.us/i/aion0003j.jpg/

    http://img205.imageshack.us/i/aion0011m.jpg/

Get over it... the guy looks gay as hell, and he does have an anime look to him. It's nice to see that you automatically assume he/she is caucasian as well.

looks more like CGI to me. but ill try this game out if its cheap lol. or if they have a open beta. sounds better then the star wars mmo.

I have to admit the above pictures are some of the most UN-ANDROGYNOUS male figure I have seen on the game yet. Most I seen while playing happen to be the neutral, overly clean :) "gay" type. It is so lady-boy it bothers me to no end. (I mean no disrespect to anyone who is gay...I just say it for a lack of a better word.)

What many people mean by "anime" style is the obvious knack for Japanese animators to create male characters in androgynous forms to appeal to the female population. Known as bish?nen & biseinen. It is very common in Anime so the original poster was kinda right.

And yes...WOW is Disney. Like Free Realms.

  • synnsynn Member UncommonPosts: 563

there obviously seems to be alot of ppl attacking and defending the game based on their opinions of gameplay, art work, pvp etc... I will probably give this game a shot just to see how it is for myself and keep an open mind.

These Aion threads are getting worse by the minute.

There's no PVP in the game for the first 30 levels, what are you talking about OP.

Aion has managed to throw concepts of 10 different MMO together and mixed them into a bowl and they made an incoherent game which tries to do everything and isn't good at anything.

    (1) AION has a RA system like DAoC. With passive stat boni as well as powerful abilities on timers. People get a real sense that their characters grow stronger through RvR. You can save up Abyss Points gained from RvR kills for uber gear.
    (2) There is no PvE grind for gear and AION has DAoC-style crafting, and spellcrafting. You can craft or gain RVR reward gear for the "ultimate" template based on a mix of crafted and RVR earned gear.In AION there is real crafting. Armorcrafting, weaponcrafting with secondary skills like woodcrafting that allows you to reinforce keep doors and repair them.
    (3) AION has 'The Rift' is in-game PVP dungeon that is very similar to Darkness Falls.
    (4) The layout and size of the "inner keeps" is very similar to the keeps in DAoC RvR zones and BGs. As with DAoC, AION has destructable walls and seige weapons
    (5) AION has 6x6 combat - this rules. It is possible for strong but differentially balanced 6 man groups (e.g  tank groups or mage groups) to take out 16 man and even 24 man groups.
    (6) RvR End game is immense, offering all kind of merit, status and rewards for individuals, clans and realms.
    (7) CC is smart but not overwhelming and can be dealt with by good healers and other classes.
    (8) Like DAoC, AION is extremely elitist.
    (9) Unlike DAoC you can RvR in-flight mode, liked a Winged Angel or a Demon :)

    Heh....this is funny.

I played Aion as part of the last beta weekend because I heard it was going to be a good DAoC replacement. After playing, I immediately re-subbed to DAoC. Waiting for the server consolidation in July. Thank you Aion for sending me back to DAoC.

So you played it before you got to any PvP content, and quit after seeing about 5% of the game?

Yep. 5% of the most boring gameplay and the most objectionable community I''ve experienced to date. My opinion.

I've played MMOs for long enough I can tell if I'm going to like a game or not in the first ten levels. "You didn't play long enough" -- Isn't that what advocates say in EVERY game forum when someone doesn't agree with them?

My god .... I have been using MMORPG.com for quite some time, and never A) had a question to ask here on these forums or B) trolled through a forum post that invoked me to log on and comment..

Both of you guys that I quoted, I am sorry, I try not to judge being as though everyone has a right to state their minds, but you guys are biased and ignorant.

I have been playing MMORPGS since 1999 ranging from everything Anarchy Online and above (mad respects and props to those who have been playing longer in worlds such as UO and DoAC) and I can say after beta testing this game for 3 days, that I found this game to be EXTREMELY (and I mean EXTREMELY) solid! The movements were fluid (unlike WAR, where I got stuck when I jumped on a rock, or any object in the world, disgusting) and the PvP was VERY fun and gave me the thrills I had in Anarchy Online PvP (where your heart starts racing and you start palm sweating). instead of writing a block of text I will break it up a little bit

    Graphics

    9.5/10

By far one of the most beautiful and animated worlds I have ever come across. The weaponry, armor, in itself is stunning and makes you "want" to raid whever you can to get the best of gear.

Enviornment once again is stunning, without equal.

    Sound

    10/10

Sound effects are very viable and believable with depth and quality with every hit (mage/sorc, could have been a tad better though, but no points docked for that)

Music: My goodness, as a music producer and undeground DJ myself, I fell in love with the melodic compositions of this game, it truly added to the full flavor of the game and would make me stay in an area, smoke some green tobacco and listen to the beauty.

    Gameplay

    8.5/10

The choice to pick between WASD and P2C was excellent for NCsoft to implement being as I "simply dont play P2C games". however the WASD movements rival that of WoWs movements, which imho is one of WoW's only good notes.

NPC's are wonderful animated and beautifully designed... when you make it to the sanctum, you will see all the details and work they put into the game... some of my favorite things that they have done is simple things like the 3 children skipping and loving life around town with the little girl trying to get all to join in on the "fun parade" that you can tell they are trying to orchestrate!

the crafting area was amazingly designed and I believe added to a feeling of "home". I have always loved crafting. In anarchy online I had/have a trader in which I loved building high lv implants, and armor (most weapon crafts were bleh in AO) lol. but yes I enjoyed the crafting in the game.

Flying: Being able to fly in a world practically unrestricted was very fun and a couple times I would fly up up and up until I ran out of flying time (mind you this was in veltheron er i forget the name) and just dropping as if I was sky diving!! lol the PF's are huge and you can do so many things within it!

    PvP

being as though I havent experiences the TRUE pvp in this game I really shouldnt make much comment on it, but the duels I had and the pvp in the coliseum was definately fun and at many points EXCITING!!! I havent been excited about pvp since Anarchy. WAR was bleh for pvp, and sure at times it had its moments but got boring QUICK as you leveled!

    Overall

    9.3/10

I think this game will be a major player in the NA and EU markets. Most of us (fanbois excluded) have been seething for a SERIOUSLY uber MMO to play for a long time. I believe this game (as well as SWTOR) will be the games that will give gamers a choice finally!! for the longest time it has always been WoW this, WoW that... now it will be WoW this, Aion that, and SWTOR there.

P.S. - for all the Wow fanbois who seem to be jealous of Aions greatness, please do yourself a favor and just leave posts that have to do with Aion alone! :) if you are not going to play it, then it really has nothing to do with you!!

by "Greatness" you mean mediocre ness right because that really best describes the game. It's fun but unispired.  Basically upgraded Lineage II graphics with Perfect Worlds flight system. I've seen the graphics on a top in computer. Yes there very pretty because they are anime inspired like most other oriental games. Finally, just because someone doesn't like the game doesn't make then a WoW fanboi. Im sick and tired of people using that as there one and only comeback to someone not liking your game. Get over it.

well when it comes down to it, there are legions of WoW fanbois and these people love to troll and hate anything else.

Secondly, once again those are my opinions, and I consider myself a fair judge. I am not sure what you are expecting but this game is truly the best game that will be out very soon. is it the best game that will EVER come out being the #1 MMO of all time? no, no game is, but give the game its due, I believe it to beat all current MMO's.. game that I think will top the charts? Secret World, and possibly SWTOR

daoc was a dam good game i played it for 5 years and i think where they messed up was the developers started spending thier time in warhammer instead of improving daoc and the introduction of warhammer caused a lot of good players to move on to the new game because they felt that daoc was doomed by its developers wich was a shame.if aion has taken the logistics of daoc and improved on them i will be happy.and a note to the idiot that made the idiotic post about your comparison you need to go out behind the barn and smoke another one then you will have something to blame your stupidity on

Mr Waterlily I don't think you have actually played Aion. What you say is blatently untrue. First you can PvP at Level 25 and enter the RvR Abyss. Second you can PvP at level 18 in The Rift.

I was about to buy the game for the PvE part, that is good. But If it have good PvP, count me in!

What is the overpowered class? I want to play imba.  (probably a healer or a ranged class.)

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

Ok sounds good but I have a question.

Word on the street is that Aion has a simpler skill system than WoW's.  When considering the amount of differing builds.

Is this true or isn't it?  Because WoW's was very simple.

If it isn't true how about some proof.  Like a few screenshots of skill selection or a build calculator.

    http://img151.imageshack.us/i/aion0003j.jpg/

    http://img205.imageshack.us/i/aion0011m.jpg/

While there are many different types of anime, they all share some defining features. That is how people can tell that it's art style is very anime-ish.

Aion looks very "asian" (for lack of better word). While looking "asian" is not a bad thing, it's just a different art style and direction,  the style does not work well in the west.

The character graphics, while good, do not really get me excited. I am well aware of the character editor's capabilities and I do agree that it's one of the best around, although I do wish that the body sliders did more. The characters look too "clean" and most of the male features are metrosexual.

Also, the armor and weapons top WoW in looking unrealistic. Plus the whole flight mechanic is unintuitive, restricted and simply not as fun as it is advertised to be.

Now look, Aion is a decent game and it will do relatively well in the west. All things considered, it will probably get about the same number of subscribers as Lineage II. It will not, however, be the next WoW, DAOC, UO or any other MMO you want to compare it to. It's just not that much different from the rest of the new MMOs out there, nothing really sets it appart.

I for one find the flight system to be very fun actually. True the armor and weapons don't "look realistic" but let's face it, we play games because they aren't "realistic". When's the last time you played "Joe Average Goes to Work: On Monday!"?

Aion looks "asian" DAOC looked "normal" and WoW looks "Cartoony"? Is that how you might classify MMO looks? Guild Wars falls into the asian category obviously. What would CoH fall into? My money is on Comic Book... My point is there is no friggin reason to dislike a game because of art style. The world is beautiful, the characters don't need paper bags on their heads, and the feel of the game is more realistic then looney toon land (also known as WoW).

I'm not saying Aion will (or even should) kill WoW. I fear the game that kills WoW will be equally boring, pointless, and a waste of colored pencils. What I am saying is it hurts no one for Keri to present her own opinion, especially since she, unlike so many others in this thread, presents a series of points which are more or less accurate.

And I know ex DAoC players who dove into War and, for all I know, are still there. So obviously those of us major fans of DAoC desperately want to find a game that can match it for fun. I think Aion might be that game for me.
