Unfortunately, I have canceled as well.

Last night was the nail in the coffin for me. I had a friend making me armor and he was linking me the patterns and what they would make. I couldn't see what he was linking me from all the gold spam coming through the whispers part of chat. I have all general channels off and only keep "whispers" and "legion" channels on. He tried to send the links in legion  chat and once again blocks (paragraphs) of gold spam came up. I ignore (block) all tells I get but they keep coming with different names, over and over again.

Oh and a another close friend was out in the Abyss doing a quest when he told me he came across 6 bots in proximity of the mobs he was hunting. To verify they were bots he would attack a mob and take it down to over half health near them and then they would attack it and kill it and bend down and try an loot it. Of course they couldn't loot it and would pause and proceed to another mob.

    Sad.

When are you game-hoppers going to figure out that MMOs need a few months to get broken in? Spare yourself the agony of disappointment by breaking the cycle of Hype->Excitement->Pre-order->Beta->Play at launch->Quit->Look for next game->Hype...

    tinfoil hat theory :

NCSoft Dev: "hmm they don't want game guard, they say they won't play if it's on the game...and we can't get it to work anyway"

NCSoft Corporate : "Hmmm, ok, remove game guard, and flood the game with bots and obvious exploiters, transfer some staff to the new Aionbot Goldseller program.  It's pure genious, we bot and exploit, sell the gold for huge profits to pay off legal fees, and we prove how much game guard is needed to prevent the botting and exploiting.  I love me and my ideas!!!! You do too or your fired."

NCSoft Dev: "Yes Sir, I love your idea.  It'll be implemented by the end of the day!!"

Grouping in Old school mmo's: meeting someone at the bar and chatting, getting to know them before jumping into bed.  Current mmo's grouping: tinder.  swipe, hookup, hope you don't get herpes, never see them again.

to get rid of the tells , make yourself invisible, means no one can find you on the search list. as for the botters you have a report button in your active skill list. target the players and click the skill it will report them. alot of people don't know they have the skill to just click on to report, to try and report the other way is rediculously hard idk why its like that its dumb.i tried reporting a player that was spammng a phisher site, couple of days later i got an email back from in game telling me to go to thier website to report went to the site linked and it was telling me to report in game it made no sense

Sometimes it helps when you say "it is easily exploitable because..."

Because then you are making a statment. And if you back up your statement with examples you can then convince people the truth to your argument.

I don't see how picking up money and making it so that it is bind on equip is easily exploitable. What I do see is that if they left a player run economy then someone could put a mana stone on sale for 2 million kinah and then the seller would just buy the mana stone. It's not an exploit but it is a way around binding money.

IN any case NC really does need to have people monitoring chat. In a recent video on this site discussing WoW at some games conference they mention that they have people monitoring chat.

If NC wants the game to be #2 in the market and be a top contender for mmo games then they need to start thinking in that league.

The problem with NC is that (and I've said it before and I'll say it again) they are rather clueless and in my opinion an arrogant company. They want to do thing the way they want to do them, regardless fo the results.

Let's be honest, there is game spam and even gold mail in other games. I used to receive it in EQ 2. However, not to the extent that you see it here. It's an embarrassment and they need to do more than send some gm's for an hour on a certain day to remove these spammers.

edit: also I'm not sure "the game is done for" as according to http://www.digitalspy.com/gaming/a180653/aion-remains-top-of-pc-pile.html was #1 the week of october 5th and #12 on amazon.

But we will see what type of retention they have soon enough.

I appreciate your information but it comes too late. I just feel like I have to jump through hoops to avoid all this garbage. Exactly why should I jump through hoops? Oh, and  its not jump gold spam. NCSoft keeps spamming the game chat about phishing sites way too often. I know what they trying to warn people of but its almost as much text and as often as "buy kinah now----cheap!"

You lose.  I just subscribed two days ago and I'm still somewhat "sane".  The spammy chat is the only mildly annoying thing in your list for me.  I didn't notice this huge number for farming bots in starting areas.  The place was much less busy than the beta was or even the wow launch week.  None of these things are game breakers anyway so what's your deal?

  • NeopsychNeopsych Member UncommonPosts: 324

So here I am reading some very good points the OP makes about improvement activity needed in the game but also concluding that ,whilst things like spammers are indeed annoying, that I can live with it compared to other games I have been subjected to.

I then read the post title again and think I must dream some deliberatly witty and insightful prose as a retort. After much deliberation I settle on...

Well then you're never going to buy an MMO, because until software companies can develop their own AI to predict human behavior and gain the ability to accurately simulate the behavior of tens/hundreds of thousands of simultaneous users, there is always going to be a period of adjustment. Think of it like a fine wine or a new sports car.

This thread is a tribute to the game.  Couldn't he find anything more than 2 weak points to complain about?  They sure don't do justice to his damning title.   Spammy, "too fast" chat makes a game "done for"?

  • FreddyDingoFreddyDingo Member Posts: 21

Not trying to be a troll, but from what I've read and seen about this game it basically looks like Lineage 2 with a new "story" (if you can even really say Lineage 2 had a story) and wings. It seems to have the same problems Lineage 2 did with botting and gold spam, and from what I can remember about Lineage, NC Soft claimed to be working constantly on the problem but they never made any progress. Even to this day I'm almost certain you will find gold spammers and botters all over the place. I'm surprised no one has mentioned that only a few days ago (I believe) NC Soft banned 35% of their players because they were "botters". I've heard numerous stories from people who got banned because they were botting and they had no idea what it even was. Personally, I've never played Aion, so you can go ahead and disregard my comments if you want, but I did play Lineage 2 and I know a lot of people who played for longer then I and this seems like its heading down the same path.

I am playing Aion since Open Beta. Thank you very much.

Like Guild Wars, City of Heroes and City of Villians is developed by western development houses. Namely Guild Wars by ArenaNet and CoX originally by Cryptic.

The only games NCSoft has developed before themselves are the Lineage games (bot infested joke games), Tabula Rasa (R.I.P) and now Aion (wich is now also infested with bots and cheaters).

If you actually read my posts, then you would have understand that I actually enjoy the game and telling that its a good game.

But so was Lineage 2. It was a horrible grind, but the gameworld was more vast, more open then Aion. So in that respect I liked Lineage 2 even more when it comes to exploration.

The problem is, that NCSoft just doesn't learn and doesn't want to deal with the botters and cheaters.

It was a problem with the Lineage games. And it's now again a problem with Aion.

    Cheers

The fact is. From now on, no new player with some form of sanity is ever going to sub for this game. Ever.
Right now, the moment a new player logs into the game for the first time....
....it will not only be overwelmed with a raging chat window moving faster then the average Formule 1 car. Because of all the spam.
But he/she will have to put up with farming bots all over the starter areas. They are everywhere and in very large numbers.
It's a joke!  NCSoft has lost complete control over their game. The spam and botting is so excessive. It's really disgusting.
I have never seen this amount of spam and botting before. Even Lineage 2 wasn't that bad at launch as is now the case with AION.

I guess. This is what you get when you don't bother writing any security nor any checks in your game client and make the bussiness choice to rely 100% on a crap program called Game Guard.... and then at launch make the decision to remove this crap program from the game client as well. Leaving it completely open and defenseless.
I guess NCSoft has just set a brandnew record in how fast you can run a game totally into the ground after launch. (just talking about NA/EU launch here).
    Cheers

LOL omg another doomsayer!  Everyone abandon ship now!

How about realize the fact that this game, while not new in Korea, is new to the US and as a result comes with many of the same issues that any new game has because of server constraints, underestimated population stresses, etc.  The spam thing is a real problem and my guess is that it's not one they are going to let go on for very long but we'll see.  But the point is no game with this kind of popularity, especially not WoW (which had a crap ton of problems upon launch) launched without similar issues.  Time will tell as to whether they address them but it's hardly doom for the game.  This games complete potential is only just beginning.

For those who are comparing to how WoW was to Aion now I'm sorry, wow was never ever this bad. I played that game since released for 4 and half years. Yes it did have problems but nowhere near the extent that Aion is now. Frankly this problem has made me dread logging into the game and is a big part for me canceling my sub (other problems too but I can deal with those). I'll still keep the game installed and check back in a month or so to see if they have cleaned it up but until then I am not paying $15 a month for no gm support.

HAHAHAHAHA your kidding right.  WoW was not only this bad...it was FAR FAR Worse.  You would wait in queue for hours and then if you happened to get in...you'd be lucky to be able to move, and don't even get me started on how it was during World PvP.  I'm not sure when you played WoW but it obviously wasn't at launch.

They need to crackdown on the botting and fast. Many of the newer Aion players are coming in hoping they fixed the problems they had with the same situation in L2. The walls of gold spam and the many botters will scare them away in a heartbeat. They need to play cleanup duty or they will be in the same boat as AoC and War trying various promotions just to get former subs back in the game.

    Exactly,

The difference with Aion is, compared to for example WoW, Eq2 or LOTRO. Is the latter games are more PVE focussed games and if people buy gold in those games, it's usually always for one of the expensive mounts, etc.

Aion is a highly competitive PVP game. Gear has a big impact in PVP. You can litterly buy almost everything with gold (Kinah in Aion). Nothing is BoP, but BoE or you can just buy it at faction merchants.

People up till entire Legions who bot themselves and buy massive amounts of kinah, so buy themselves to the top and get a very unfair advantage into the game.

And when you got too many of those idiots on your server, you (a legit player) are pretty much screwed.

As those idiots are fine, sit comfortably at the top, rule the charts, own the fortresses, gain more and more advantage of players with ever increasing wealth, AP and ranking... and will still be there months later when you come join the game and stomp you in PVP.

    Cheers

I played wow at launch and the only thing that I remember that was any worse then this was the loot lag. Sometimes it took forever to loot an item, but they fixed that very quickly. Hopefully NCsoft can be as prompt in fixing their problems. However much much worse is an exaggeration.

Now this is the fairest thing you've said so far today.  This *is* a real problem and one I'm interested in seeing how it is addressed because if it isn't then my stay will be a short lived one as well.  As you very well stated, it's not just a simple surface bot problem but one that has the potential to ruin the very foundations of the game.

You must be one of the lucky few.  Just about everyone I know playing through beta and into launch remembers the horrid lag, the queue times, the crashes, the bugs, etc.  It was pretty bad.  Don't get me wrong, I loved WoW when it was in it's prime and they did a tremendous job working all of those issues out to become an extremely polished game.  But it had way more server related issues and queue times then Aion ever had.
