Game Stop and Fallen Earth...

xkaseyxxkaseyx Member UncommonPosts: 11

So I pre ordered the game a while ago hoping to pick it up on Sept 22 or so

Then the shipping date for the game got pushed back a week

I was fine with that

I went up there today to check it out

Turns out its been pushed back again

Luckily only a day this time

http://www.gamestop.com/browse/search.aspx?N=0&Ntk=TitleKeyword&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Ntt=Fallen%20Earth

Should I expect it to get pushed again?

Im pretty ready to start playing

I can't tell you how many times down through the years I've heard people complain about GameStop. They love to set up special  deals with MMO developers to market the game and they love to screw over gamers who buy MMOs through them.

I remember I pre-ordered an MMO from them years ago where I was supposed to get into the beta for pre-ordering through them. They never sent me any information on HOW I was supposed to get into the beta. I contacted their customer service department and asked what I needed to do to get into the beta, they told me they had no idea. I said if I wasn't getting the beta account they offered as part of the deal then I wanted a refund. They told me they couldn't give me a refund because I got the beta deal. I reminded them that I didn't get the beta deal. They pretty much told me to GFY and GTFO.

Needless to say I've never done any business with GameStop again after that incident.

And my story is just one of a billion stories out there about how much that company sucks. If you are smart this will be the last MMO you buy from them as well.

This is a game stop problem, and also, could only be your store too.

Unluckily for me GameStop is the only local store that allows you to pre order items

Our local EB Games got bought out by GameStop

    Amazon.com

Or you could download the game directly from the developer's website.

Corporate by far sucks, for sure. I don't know how many times I've seen a regional suit in my old spot watching over the manager's shoulder... but the thing is that each store is different and based on how cool you get with the people working there. At my main one we were all on a first name basis and gabbed all the time, usually a 20 minute visit for what could have been 5. I don't even know these people outside the store, but way cool during hours. The manager and I were tight as all hell, he'd give me preorder stuff without even having preordered - he knew what I was about and saved me t-shirts and osd's, all sorts of stuff that makes me question if somebody else missed out because of it. Either way it was tits until he got promoted to a regional suit-type guy, and some chick took over and all my cred went out the window. I spent a few visits but got no respect as a customer in general and said they can suck it.

I now go to a gamestop miles away, but before that I had 2 incredibad experiences with another one prior to it. First I preordered Persona 4 waaaay early and expected the t-shirt - when I arrive the manager was wearing one and said he didn't know where mine was. I was pissed but let it slide. Later I got the Fallout 3 Collector's edition preorder, but got the flu and came 2 days late to pick it up and he had already sold it (which is company policy sadly, but he was a dick about it). I had to bitch for a refund, then had him call up where there was a copy, then head to the busiest area of town during traffic and get the damn thing... Now I go to one where the manager is a bit quirky, but cool as sh*t. Doesn't hook me up like the my main man did, but he informs me to things along my tastes that I wouldn't know about everytime I come in - without trying to push it like "buy it". In fact, he even tells me to avoid games lol.

You need to find a gamestop like that, with a manager who cares and is sociable enough to get to know.

I agree with you my Gamestop manager and i are good friends because we have like tastes in games. Even the regular employees and i are friends, it just depends on the Gamestop. I get free shit all the time from beta codes to shirts, cds, and little collector items (like the sword from LOTR: Conquest) I get a lot of special treatment but i spend a lot of time and money there so i just figure they treat me like a VIP because of it. I hope you have better luck with them in the future!

I have the same situation over here. I was basicly told i was a lier and that thats not what the website said. so being my hot tempred self, i called them and demanded my money back. In short i was told "go to hell" and no we dont give refunds. soooo tommarow iam going to walk in there and demand my god dam game or my god dam money. I been there 3 times and i live 45  mins away from the nearest game stop. So it cost gas and being that cash is in short supply even with a job, 1/4 a tank is a big deal. An when i get my cash back, yes i said when. iam going to buy it online and down load it from the client its self,  I dont like incompatence and game stop is pushing it.

    Yes, this.

If you purchase the game from the developer, that money goes directly to them.  Otherwise, buying from Gamestop, that pre-order pushing shithole will get a chunk.

I HATE being asked if I want to preorder games every time I walk through that door.  Especially when I'm asked again when they're answered, "No".  I fucking hate that store, and am proud to use their trade-values to my benefit on a great many occasions.

But yeah, on this subject...I really am thinking of buying this game.  I want to support the developer, but I also want a hard-copy...Will I be shipped one if I order through their website, or is it only a Digital-Download (not a fan).

yeah corporatization (sp?) is a horrible thing especially for something like gaming. I worked at Gamestop for a couple years back in 2001 or so...when i first started there it was awesome. As time went by and barnes and nobles (they actually own gamestop to those who don't know) started buying up all the other chains (EB, whatever else there was) things started to get way too rigid. It was always how many subscriptions to the game informer mag have you sold or how many pre-orders did you get. Most 'cool' people don't want to harass you..hell i never did. They even gimped the hell out of our employee discount. Now it seems every gamestop i go to has a bunch of yuppy (kiss ass to the DM) losers that don't know how to take no for an answer about their damn preorders. It's so sad as I used to love going to any video game store and gabbing.

Its digital only it appears. After paying for the game they just let you download the client and it then downloads the updates. They don't send you anything.

I can understand why you would want to get a physical copy of the game though. Usually I prefer to do that as well. But I mostly only feel that way about single player games. For an MMO, the single player copy just becoems a paper weight if the servers shut down (like that copy of Tabula Rasa I have) so I figured a digital download is no big deal for MMOs anymore.

Thanks.  I'll likely go with the digital download then.  Plus I read that I'd get a free horse for doing so.

My local Gamestop used to be bearable up until about a month ago.  It still looked like an old EB Games.  The manager was an okay douche-bag...But all of the employees were decent people, especially the assistant manager.  I walked in the other day to return a guitar I bought online, and the store now looks like all the other Gamestop-retro shitholes...And management changed.  I asked the manager what happened, he explained.  Then as he finished the guitar return and I sign for the $15, he asks because the amount is so low, if I'd like to put $5 towards a pre-order.

I was like..."No".  I figured it'd stop there, instead he's like..."So you're not a Call of Duty fan then?"  Which pissed me off.  I replied, "No, actually I love Call of Duty, I'm just not a pre-ordering fan".  To this he replied, "Why's that, put $5 down, get $5 off the price of the game when you buy it".

I then replied, "No, I'd rather go to Target, there I actually get $5 off of the game when I buy it and a gift card".  He wouldn't shut the hell up, "But if you pre-order here you get exclusive pre-ordering bonuses only available here"...

I walked out the door, the store won't be seeing my face for awhile...A least until one of their trade values/promotions allows me to punch them where it counts.

I live in Canada, we have EBgames up here no gamestop (same difference). What I have noticed over the last few years at all 3 EB locations is that they are slowly thining out their PC games section.

I remember walls of PC game titles, now when I go into the stores they have a small 5-6ft wide section of wall with new and used PC games, everything else is dedicated to console games. Aswell it seems like the amount of any new PC game they have in stock is never more than 3-4 upon release, and if they don't have it in stock they wont even give a option to order it in or anything. Atleast that was what I was told.

So as it stands I no longer give any of my money to EB. I would rather shop around, best buy, future shop, even wal-mart. I was never a big fan of digital downloads. I always liked to have a hard copy, but I find it kinda pointless with MMO's since usually within a year of release they have a free trial and with it the ability to always download the client. (making need for disks useless)

With Fallen Earth I chose to do digital download and get the free horse. well worth it. If it means that the Developers of FE get more cash out of the deal, excellent! For a small group I think they have done a great job in creating a game that vastly differs from the standard fantasy and sci-fi space MMO's.

Being an old school gamer myself, I like to own hard copies of my game... but I think with FE, it's all about to change. If I download this from Steam or D2D it will be the first PC game I have ever purchased a digital copy for. Initially I went for the boxed copy, pre-ordered it at Gamestop. the release date changed.. then changed again, then changed again. FInally it was supposed to ship yesterday and be at my local store today. Well that didn't happen either, I went over to Gamestop to pick up my copy today. I asked the dude behind the counter if they had recieved my copy of Fallen Earth. He said he had never heard of the game and doesnt believe that they are recieving it at all. I then had to remind him I was holding a pre-order slip in my hand... He then told me to hold on a few minutes when he then continued to deal with other customers...  they were too busy selling copies of Madden and NHL10 to even bother to open 2 of the shipping boxes they recieved this morning and see if my FE copy was inside. After waiting a half hour it turns out there were no FE copies shipped to Gamestop today, Nationally apparently, according to the manager who was the only one with  half a brain in the store. They now said they expect it to ship today or tomorrow and recieve it on Monday "possibly". I told them to give me a re-fund on my pre-order.

I am now going to download this from steam, get my free shirt, Horse, and Flip Off Gamestop in the process.. I felt that just because I was asking for a PC Game that they never heard of, they put even less of an effort to find a resolve. Plus the way they change shipping dates in less than 24 hours makes 0 sense to me.. thank god I am mostly a PC player and not a console robot, cause I think I am done with Gamestop.

@Howeller, I had about the same experience with a GameStop the last time I was in one. This was years ago and I just wanted to buy a Playstation controller so I could play some of my old Playstation (original Playstation, not the lame new ones) games. The guy behind the counter (and the only person in the store) harassed me for ten minutes atleast about joining their membership club for a free magazine and discounts or some other non-sense. After he finally shut up I paid for my controller and have never been back in any store like that since. I buy all my games online now, mostly by ordering from Amazon.

@ooazraeloo, I don't know how it is in Canada but in the US small game stores like GameStop have pretty much always ignored or marginalized PC games. I remember that something like 12 or 13 years ago I used to shop frequently at one such store in a local mall. It wasn't a Gamestop because I don't think those even existed back then. I think this one might have even meen privately owned at the time. But they only carried a few PC games which they kept behind the counter (like it was porn or something) and they only stocked the absolutely brand new games which had just been released. Once their first shipment of any PC game sold out they never bought more. They also had a small shelf of used PC games people had tried to sell to them. A friend of mine bought one once and returned it a few days later saying it was the worst game he had ever played. After discussing it with the guy behind the counter when he returned the game, it was revealed that pretty much every used PC game they had was terrible and virtually every one of them was returned within days of being sold. It was obvious that store didn't have any clue about PC games. I think I used to buy most of my PC games from huge tech stores like Comp USA or Best Buy back then. Comp USA doesn't exist anymore and Best Buy sucks now. Thus why I buy most of my games through Amazon now.

@Silvrvr027, NOOOOOOOOOOO! Don't order from Steam! There was a thread where I explained clearly why Steam is bad but the mods deleted it (Steam lovers would be my guess). If you buy the game directly from the developer they get more money, which some people claim would be used to develop the game further (a debate for another day). Plus the Steam shirt is worthless, you will upgrade to something better within a few hours of gameplay and never wear it again. The ATV you get for ordering from the developer is the cheapest and easiest way to get a non-horse vehicle in the game. If you want a horse instead Direct 2 Drive gives a free horse also.
