Buffbots - New Server

I don't know where, but I swear I read that the new server was going to implement something that was going to hinder buff bots.

Obviously not.  I logged on to the new server tonight and they were everywhere.

Flippin' awesome, Mythic.  Not having the annoying buff bots was one of the main reasons I resubbed.  I suppose I'm probably in the minority because when I mentioned something about it in /advice in game I got called all kinds of wonderful names that also seem to be a part of the latest DAoC crowds behavior.

I dunno.  I just canceled my resub.  I wish I could find where I read that so I wouldn't think I was losing my mind.

This really isn't a "new server" per se, they are combining the population from all clusters into a single environment, so they are using the standard rule set.

There's been talk of creating a new classic rules server but so far no real progress on that front.  That server was also supposed to be unfriendly to botting.

I remember seeing the buffbot comment somewhere too, it was in reference to making them less effective, not removing them.

Here it is: camelotherald.com/devblog/news_article.php  "Significantly lessen the power gap between those who use buff bots and those who do not."

As far as the community goes, I made a trial account and played a couple days ago. The new community is crap, unhelpful and in some cases just plain rude. Obviously I'm generalizing and basis is on public chat channels (advice/region). The game didn't seem as fun to me, mobs are way easier to kill, no challenge, no need to group unless you are being power lvl'ed.  In addition, the origins project is completely dead from the last time they spoke of it.

This server merge is DAoC's last leg, unless they go F2P I don't see them recovering any subscriptions unless its just for a month to try it out. I believe most veterans will remember not only why they quit, but find a whole bunch of new reasons to cancel within a few days if not a few hours.

My suggestion is  to make a trial account and try it before you resub or spend money. The trial acct does NOT require CC confirmation like it says, so its easy and quick to get.

Actually the comment was NOT about making bots less effective.

You can't nerf buffs without affecting people who actually play healers (and have those buffs for groups).  Shears will actually remove buffs... then having a buffbot a long ways off doesn't really help.  Most large fights someone is shearing.

The classic server had restrictions.. but Ywain is not a classic server its a TOA server.

What they did do was introduce some npc buff system that would supposedly bring players without bots onto a level playing field.  However, based on the info from VN the "npc buffs" are not even as good as the standard potion buffs.

Which sounds about right for Mythic..

They merged the clusters because of the low population.  If they did away with a desire for "bots" they would lose even more of the accounts they have left (which are paid for only to be a bot).  However, they are where they are currently... due to very bad decisions along the way...  my subs ran out tonight and I will not renew.

You argue semantics. Giving some form of buffs to everyone reduces the edge botters have in battle, making their buff bot less effective, as their advantage from using it is slightly lower.

Anyways, I thought they already added AOE buffs in the buff spec line, whats the point of adding an npc to do the same thing?  Sounds like Mythic doesn't have a clue and that seems to have been the case the last 5 yrs.

I agree. I could care less about semantics or what they said versus what they meant. Buffbots have ruined the game in the past, continued to ruin it and Mythic is as clueless now as they were then. Truth be told, they should have slammed the door on bots and all of that back when it started. Now they have dug themselves so far in a hole and been complacent for so long, everyone falsely believes that buffbots are okay and that is "how you play the game".

Sorry but this old school player will move on and play a game where the devs listen to the playerbase and don't make decisions that are haphazardly implemented. Mythic should realize the issue isn't the buffs themselves, its that people with botters like to form their own groups and not socialize with others and this in turn destroys any sense of community. THAT is the issue and it seems Mythic still hasn't figured it out.

You nailed it on the head with that comment I highlighted.  That is nearly word for word what someone said to me when I made a comment in the /advice chat.  They said that if you pay to have the buffbot then it should be an allowed advantage and that is just how things have always been.

I can't say for certain, but I really think that if they got rid of the buffbots their numbers would go up.  Sure, some people would quit because they were mad.  But I think most of them would just close one of their 2 accounts.  But the fact that buffbots were gone would bring back many of the people who left because they didn't believe you should have to have 2 accounts to be effective in an MMO.
