Need some Help with HL2

I bought HL2 bronze edition on steam and it was a 4 hour download. Once it was finished I clicked play and it goes to the loading screen and never gets past that. It is installed so I dont see why it wont work, any one else have this problem? I tried finding steams customer support phone number but I didnt see one.

How long did you wait at the loading screen? The first time I played I thought my computer froze but it was only taking a very long time. For whatever reason it seems to take longer to reach the main menu then to load a game. But if you did wait awhile and nothing happened I don't know what to tell you. I didn't download it off Steam but I'm not sure if that would make much a difference.

I played in window mode and it got me to the main menu, but when I started a new game it got stuck 1/3 the way. Ive only waited about 5 minutes, how long did it take you? Steam is a piece of shit company, they dont want anyone calling them, and they didnt give me a conformation of my order. It all goes under your account.

that happened to me with the demo..and my computer isn't top of the line anymore
so I thought it kicked the bucket, and I rebooted, the hard way (the dreaded power button)
I haven't tried it since, but I'm sure what ominis said was right; I'll just let it load for half an hour or so

For whatever reason the first time I tried it took close to 10 minutes. But it seems to have gotten faster with the updates steam has every once in awhile. It might possibly trying it in window mode, some games can be funny about that.

Well I finally got it to work, kinda. It was going fine until later, then the game would freeze and stutter, then I get a message said that its not "reading" the memory. I know its not my computer, its the game. I have had to hit the power button probly 10 times now
I cant do anything else. Some times its crashes to the desktop, and sometimes it freezes forever. My computer shut down on me when I got one of those error messages, it just shut off...
This is really making me mad, its crashing every 5-25 minutes now. Ive look at steams customer support, but nothing helped. Maybe if Steam had an actual number so I could talk to a human being. Im at nova prospekt and like 2/3 through the game, its such an awesome game. Runs well on my system when its not crashing...

That sucks. And some of the best levels are after Nova Prospekt. Hopefully sooner or later you'll get some help from them. Good luck.

Wow I just played 10 hours straight of HL2, im on anticilvilian or w/e. This game is by far the best first person shooter.
