PC and PS3

Squal'ZellSqual'Zell Member Posts: 1,803

i was just a little curious about the percentage of EvE players that actually own a PS3 or an Xbox

i really do not have a problem with the fact that CCP made it into a console only, in fact i think it was a good idea. in a business point of view they are comming out with WoD for the PC, so why create competition?

also the reason they made it into console only IMHO is because they wanted 2 different communities to interact. if it was available for PC every one and their grandmothers playing eve would go out and buy it. Thus defeating the purpose of joining 2 different communities.

although i do have a problem with the fact that it was joined with sovreignty. console players are they type to log in shoot for a few rounds and then log off, in their world dying and loosing does not have the same consequences as our eve universe. Console you die you loose? reset begin. in eve you die you loose, ugh ... thats gonna hurt to replace and when taking over a system now requires the participation of the console community that really do not care much if they win or loose because they do not have as much to loose it will simply cause problems

now my question is

good idea on the poll, i'm surprised i didnt think of it .

I'm still waiting/hoping they'll announce a way for EVE subscribers to participate as in dock then head to the planet for some good ol FPS action. Although i know the odds of it are highly unlikely, one can dream. I dont know the software limitations but i dont see why they couldnt have released the game on both PC and consoles. PC users do not have that much of an advantage from what i've seen in Rainbow six and halo.  (i know they arent cross platform multiplayer, just comparing how they play on both platforms) But i have a console so i'm not going to complain.... unless there is a monthly fee heh......

it would not go right with the lore. since we are capsuleers our immortality is subject to having

quoting from the "capsule and the clone" article

"The crucial element in the process relies on a brain-scan snapshot being taken at the precise time of death and transmitted to the waiting clone, and so the transneural burning scanner required to do so needs to be mounted somewhere close to the person at all times."

"as every cadet has hammered into his head from the moment he starts training – pod breach, without exception, spells doom for the person inside. Therefore, the instant the egg begins to crack, two things happen: the wire-cap on the pilot’s head injects an instantly lethal nanotoxin into his bloodstream and the scanner sends its piercing light into his skull. Scarce seconds later, he begins the muddy climb towards consciousness in a new body, light years away. "

    Thats why Dust Marines are

    1 Inferior to the Capsuleer

2 use an adaptation of the cloning technology.

also in the lore think of the capsuleer as a demi-god (like the japanese emperors way back) the high class, the ELITE of the Elite. who look down upon the rest of the normal people, hell they dont even socialise together.

if we where to join with then i would think it could happen in 2 ways

negociations or command. other than that i dont see both intermingling socially.

hmm good point .... so that is another reason why they probably kept it seperate from EVE .... Probably the best one as wel since it involves Lore, CCP is always protective of that.

I own a PS3. I will play this game "if" it is released for the PS3. I am always out to earn some more ISK the old fashioned way...I game for it.

I own a PS3, and if it is released for the PS3, I will play it - costdependant, though.

If it has a monthly fee, then no. If the price is less than Prototype, I will play it, though. Question is just for how long, since I don't generally like console FPSs.

Your poll missed out the single most interesting option

"I dont play EvE but I am interested in Dust"

Give me liberty or give me lasers

nope didnt miss that one since it does not apply to the topic. if you dont play eve then its not an issue.

the point was to know if people who play eve are interested, and if they are, are they interested enough to buy a PS3/xbox

PS3 here and I'll play it, how long will depend on the pricing.

Own a PS3, have played EVE since launch taking month breaks here and there...  Usually the game is lacking in action for me even in large battles, but I love the merchanting, crafting, some missions, and ways to make isk.  I will play the shit out of Dust until my thumbs bleed while playing EVE.  I guess it will depend largely on release date and price.

I only keep 2 subs active max and it will be EVE + Aion, then EVE + FFXIV.  If it is a sub then EVE or Dust + FFXIV.  Most lilkely i'd play Dust more than EVE though... maybe 2 months Dust, 1 month EVE cycle.

The only console I have in my house is my GF's Wii, but I have been looking to pick one up eventually. With the PS3 Slim coming, rumored PS2 BC returning, and now DUST its just a matter of when.

As far as pricing goes unfortunately I don't see DUST having any kind of sustainability without one, either b/c of pressure from Sony or MS to have cuts or cost of infrastructure. But as long as CCP isn't charging more than $7 a month I'll defiantly bite. A dual sub plan for both EVE and DUST at a discount would be a pretty nice incentive too.
