I just read in a user review that you cannot fly in every zone. Some zones have a invisible wall or something? This is kind of a gamebreaker for me personally. It really restricts the feeling of freedom. I wish this isn't true as its supposed to be the mainselling point.

Its restricted in some zone and even if you can fly, its timed.

In this video the flying looks great. I cannot be as positive about some other videos however.
The entire Abyss (The PvP area) has unrestricted flight. The PvE areas have restricted flight.

Aion is not tribes, its primarily a ground based MMORPG with limited flying for combat situations mostly.

Flying requires Aether. The aether is too thin in most areas to fly. It is available everywhere in the Abyss though (rvr zone).
not from what I read.
There are rings in the abyss that give you extra flight time but it not unlimited.

Unrestricted as in you can fly anywhere. The extra flight rings can be used to get virtually infinite flight time if you stop at one and keep strafing through it over and over, you will refill your flight meter to max in a matter of seconds. Also as you get higher level, better wings and a lot of the gear increase the max flight time. There's a few videos floating around of RvR in the abyss where people are fliyng for several minutes at a time.

"Unlimited" in the abyss as in you can fly anywhere within the abyss.
But ya it's still timed.
Your post wasn't that clear I took it to mean unlimited flight time.
There are also potions available (both vendor-sold and player-made) to increase flight time. Even where flying is restricted, you can usually glide. Smart players take advantage of this and it is rather fun to see where you can get to.

Just like anything else, it's only cool to fly if a few people have the skill, if everyone can fly, it's no big deal.
For a second I thought this was your game, or that NCSoft has been saying you can fly anywhere, fortunately if you read any piece of information from NCSoft (even the FAQ on their website) you'll know flying is more of a new combat mechanic than a way of transportation, no way of disappointment there, the lore is even built around the limitations. I actually got quite happy on how it is in the Abyss.
Gamebreaker? You were overhyped because you heard "flying" and "game" in the same sentence or something like that and presumed you're some mutant bird that can fly forever and go anywhere.
Getting a little carried away with our sarcasm, don't you think?
Without seeing the game's background lore and specific mechanics (i.e., the wings are essentially magical), someone could reasonably assume that winged characters would fly like real birds, because that's what we have to compare it to. Through efficient body design and bouts of gliding on wind currents, many real-life birds can fly for hours, climb high into the sky, and reach all sorts of areas with great freedom. There's nothing mutant about that.
They can't fly forever and anywhere, but they can fly for far longer than a minute or three, and obviously aren't restricted to flying in certain "zones."
I of course knew that the flying would be restricted, because it's an MMO and they have to have limitations. However, in more than half of the areas outside of the Abyss you can only glide, and when you can fly it's only for a very short period. I can see how someone may not have expected that.
Also, to a person who doesn't know what to expect, the other thing we have to compare Aion wings to is Biblical angels (which is what the characters look like), who obviously can fly forever and go anywhere they damned well please.
Finally, as an aside, wings never got me hyped, personally. I saw them as a gimmick when Aion was first announced, and I actually still do. The wings are the number one biggest feature setting Aion apart from any other Korean game, as far as I can tell.

It doesn't break immersion if you bother to read the lore and text ingame, there is a valid reason why flying can be used in some areas and not others. It would also be boring if you could fly around everything. It's nice to have rift pvp where you can't fly and then have abyss pvp where flight is unlimited. Two different styles of fighting, not bad imo.
Yep, restricted flying, no mounts and no swimming. Ok, any other dead horses that need a beating?
As stated flight is more of a combat mechanic than a travel. Because of this the limited time is a balance mechanic so that ranged classes don't get such an upper hand.
Is their a ceiling height ingame?

The only posts I read in threads are my own.
Not that I know of or have found so far. I mean, I don't know for certain but I've flown up fairly high just fine.
Keep in mind, you can glide anywhere and your glide distance is time restricted too, but your distance depends on how well you control your glide.(Which is fun to mess with when you first get your wings)
I know you can fly higher than you can keep your wings out long enough to get back to ground safely. Falling to your death.
You can time it so that as you are falling to your death you glide a bit as your flight time already recharged one second or two, preventing fatal damage or all the damage if timed properly.
Also I find gliding very fun and useful, shortens travel times and sometimes may save your life.
It is a Gimmick.
And one which will only take them so far.
I'm waiting for the other Gimmick King, World of Warcraft, to issue a patch that gives "Cold Weather Flying" at level 60. The other Gimmick..limiting flight in Northrend after the player fought hard to get it at level 60.
And in Aion it is because of a lack of Air...uhh...Aether.
*rolls eyes*
Please. Give me a break.
Anyway, if you want Unlimited Flight, play City of Heroes/Villains or Champions Online. Those games have unlimted flight everywhere in the game world, and it's beautiful.
Get a life troll
There is no restriction in the abyss except for time which can be VERY long with enough variables in your favor Having unlimited flight in a PVP oriented game would lead to rangers and casters being to overpowered and a very very unbalanced PVP game. Have you even played past lv 10 ?
So how are other games able to do it in PVP? You can't think of ANY way to balance melee in flight? Can you think of any way to balance Melee on the ground against Casters?
Oh you can?
Well golly gee...what would be the difference in the air?
Can't think? Don't know? Feel lost?
tsk tsk.
It's a Gimmick.
The flight is limited because Travel Time is a Time Sink in Aion, just as it is in WoW.
Honestly who really is sold on this flying idea? Really?
Lots of games have flight. Lots of games have timid PvP Hybrid models.
Aion is nothing revolutionary. In Perfect World you can fight and fly, and theres no invisible walls. In Jade Dynasty you can fly.
Aion is a giant yawn.
