GLENROCK, Wyo. – Glenrock Police Chief Tom Sweet said two officers "probably didn't do things the best way" when they used a Taser on a 76-year-old man driving an antique tractor in a parade. Sweet spoke at a packed town hall meeting Monday, nine days after Bud Grose was hit with a Taser during the town's annual Deer Creek Days.
The officers are on paid leave while state Division of Criminal Investigation agents investigate.
Mayor Steve Cielinski and most of the Town Council apologized to residents and asked for patience. Cielinski promised the findings will be made public.
"If we have to stand up and take it on the chin, we will," Cielinski said.
State investigator Tim Hill has said the two officers contend Grose disobeyed orders. Grose hasn't commented publicly, however, and investigators have not disclosed many details of what happened.
Sweet originally said it didn't appear any policies were violated.
Some at Monday's meeting called for the two officers to be fired. Several people who witnessed the event told the crowd police repeatedly shocked Grose with a taser.
"Those two were the most out-of-control officers I've ever seen in my life," said Scott McWilliams, a witness who said he was shoved by one of the officers. "These two guys got to go."
Mike Pyatt, a former Glenrock police officer, called on town leaders to make changes at the department.
"We will hold you accountable," he said.
Sweet, however, said he won't act before receiving the DCI report, expected by the beginning of next week.
"I don't want to take a knee-jerk reaction now," he said.

Is it really getting to the point where we should just give them back their guns so they'll think twice before hurting someone? Or at least then, if they shoot someone, they'll get a bigger slap on the wrist than "paid leave"?
Indeed.
The scary thing is it is getting into the "small town" mentality. These aren't big urban sprawls of ghetto's and "terrorists" hidden in every corner.
These are farm town type towns. It's come down to this:
"Why talk, when you can shock".
I don't know whats worse. How blatantly manipulative American news is... or that people actually let themselves be manipulated by it.
after 6 or so years, I had to change it a little...
So Reuters and AP have become manipulative news?
Hell it's the only news I trust these days.
Even then I take it with as much trust as I'd give anyone rumor mongering.
Thing is this is happening more and more, and it's being show cased more and more.
Whats next? Rubber Bullets on civilians in non violent protests?
Oh snap that happens!
Whats funny is how people don't or won't see this as a problem that's going to get worse.
Let me clarify something.
WE ARE USING TASERS ON ENFEEBLED PEOPLES.
The currents of a taser revolve , they change current so your body cannot adapt to it.
What works to put a big 240 pound man down, will do the same to a 120 pound man. Only with central nervous damage.
The larger man can displace the the currently voltage with his mass, the smaller man on the other hand does not have the mass, thusly a more concentrated revolving current is doing direct damage to his organs.
I have had tasing endurance lessons in my time with both the earth first and later the academy.
Let me tell you this, the tasers of the 90's are NOTHING compared to what we have now. These things hurt hours after.
These are not little stun guns, that cause epidermal damage. These are electrode darts that penetrate nerve tissue in many cases.
But hey it's cool right? Because some guy in a uniform said it was.
Better yet its bad! Because some news reporter said it was.

Ah in this case!
I TOTALLY RACANT THIS THREAD.
If we can't trust a sports newscaster who can we trust?!
More and more British police are being equiped with tasers.
I think it's time for a fashion label to start selling taser proof shirts.
So this fever has the U.K. as well?
Well atleast this isn't a U.S exclusive hysteria.
My question is has there been as much abuse as we have here?

It keeps going on and off being a big thing up here in Canada as well. Its more about the possible lethality then abuse though since they seem to keep killing people up here...

I'm all for weapons, that's the funny thing. I'm not much a bleeding heart.
I'm a survivalist, this stuff worry's me greatly. They use it for cases where as 5 years ago would not of warranted such a response. It's doing alot of damage and no one is fighting these "savior" weapons.
Not only is it harmful further reading on these minielectric chairs has given me insight.
First off , it's not uncommon to lose ones lunch afterward.
It gets grosser.
It can and has caused you to lose control of bladder/bowels.
That's right, it can make you crap and piss yourself.
I'm sorry but looking at human rights I'm pretty damn sure this constitutes as torture and degrading a person.
If only someone who could do something about it. Now if these were being used on dogs and cats, I bet PETA would get involved. They seem to be the only group who vocally cries abuse these days, even if it's on animals. (and even if it's bs half the time).
For sale, Faraday Cage Cloths. Look just like normal cloths but with an added faraday cage for protection against outside electical forces.
I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

Tasers were only allowed to be used by firearms oficers up until a month or two ago, so the abuse, while present has been very limited. They have been doing about as much tasing of innocents as shooting of them.
Some, but not so much because most of them aren't allowed near guns.
It's on the rise and more officers are being equiped with them. The abuses follow. What do you expect?
Human nature is human nature and the police force attracts bullies.
