Any news on a fresh server start?

Still waiting. I want to rebuild the world from scratch.

Not that I've heard, though they've recently added a world building event and cleaned up all of the plots/lairs so it's possible for folks to get in on the building game again.

It would be neat to participate in all of the building projects of yore (bridges, machines, etc.) but I think the devs are looking towards the future - which should include those large-scale building projects. :)

No. The Devs have stated they could never do a Fresh server with all the race released type world projects. The world has just changed too much. The way I understand it is you could get the current world with none of the community projects done. Things such as the Aug wall, lamp post community lairs and such.

    Are you kidding?

How many players are playing this game now? With such a low population, nothing much is going to get done, just be at peace with that.

There is no way to grow the playerbase unless you offer a fresh server start. That would be the attraction. There is little incentive to join an established server of many years especially since Horizons aka Istaria is focused heavily on crafting. Of course a media blitz and 30 day trial would be required to make such a launch successful.

I played Horizons shortly after it first released and left because of how poorly it was managed in those days and the result which led to a small playerbase.

The most fun is rebuilding the world from scratch.

No clue how many are playing but they are in the black or at least the last time they said and the numbers of players were said to be growing. I see plenty new people on the forums. Is it a lot no but the game is slowly growling I think.

I don't think restarting the three servers that are running would achieve much more than irking the veterans that have been hanging on for years... All it would do is make them have to go through everything all over again.

Now, starting a new day-0 server might work, but I don't know if that is technically or financially possible...

I am not advocating a complete game wipe, simply combine existing players onto one server to make it healthy then you have existing servers free to launch anew.

Oh, I wasn't saying you were; it was just an observation. :)

Well, given the unique nature of Istaria and the fact that the RP server, "Order", is really an RP server and not just a name, they'll pretty much have to keep the two running servers running separately. No one seems to want to mix RP players and generic players for fear of total anarchy and blood in the streets. :)

I personally believe that if a day-0 server were to suddenly pop up a lot of the older players would jump to it just to have the world events to do again.

But, again, I don't know if Virtrium can roll things back that far at this point... I guess a copy of one of the servers could be made and all of the world projects like bridges and machines 'deleted', but there's probably a lot more to this than we know.

Wouldn't it be better and simpler to just create more world events?

Part an mmo's charm is that it's not just a story, but a world in which you are but a small part.

Rather than rewinding the clock, I think they could write fresh events for players to enjoy - old and new alike.

I agree, and they are adding new content.

I think what the OP is/was looking for is that sense of the unexplored... In the early days of Horizons there was a real sense of accomplishment that came with finishing that T2 machine out in the wilderness or getting that bridge done. And as soon as you got that bridge done, there was a whole new place full of cool stuff to discover.

Dralnok's doom showed that creating new things is entirely possible, but the player base showed that there was so much desire for this that the community building projects associated with the new dungeon were pretty much completed in a weekend...

I think the real point of the conversation stems from the veteran players sitting around a campfire retelling tales of how great the early days of Horizons were, and the folks who weren't there for it wanting to experience it too. No other MMO has these sorts of elements with any sort of permanency - you can't build something in WoW, let alone have it be useful *and* permanent.

Speaking of WoW, I have a title and a mount from the opening of Ahn'Quiraj - a one time thing that will never be repeated and no one can ever get those items again... I never use the title and the mount sits in my inventory because the amount of sour grapes I have to deal with because no one can do that event or get those items is staggering. It's like I'm expected to dispose of these things because it's unfair that I have them and little Timmy can't get them...

I think the building projects in Istaria are similar in this regard and some folks would like a chance at 'building the world' too. :)
