Haha, nope! The title should be "Greedy Business' from North America, Europe, India and China are Poisoning the world"

Doesn't roll off the tongue quite as well I guess. Yeah, reading the article doesn't say anything about anyone just steering a super-freighter onto the coast of India then backing up -reaaaaaaally- fast to have all the containers fly off onto the beach.

Here is the summation of the article: The U.S and Canada have a bunch of electronic waste and companies from India and China are the lowest bidders to get rid of it.

How is it either Canada or the U.S's business to give two shits if those companies are improperly protecting their dump sites and workers? We're not telling them to be careless. How about people stop blaming the US for everything huh? How about blaming India and China for having governments that clearly don't give a rat's ass?

These electronic products contain toxic substances like lead, mercury, cadmium and flame retardants. When improperly handled, workers and the environment are harmed in ways the US chooses to ignore.
Greater than 50% of e-waste generated in the US and Canada is being sent to India, China and Africa; because it costs a fraction to 'dispose' of it there than properly at home.

Besides there, adults and children make money 'backyard recycling' scrap electronic products. Unprotected workers heat the e-waste over open fires to remove reusable components, soaking what is left in acid baths to extract reclaimable metals. In the process those 'backyard recyclers' are exposed to a variety of toxic substances. Toxic residuals from the process are also polluting local water, soil and the air.
Backyard recycling is such a widespread practice in India that Dr. Thuppil Venkaratesh, advisor to the National Referral Center for Lead Poisoning in India, reports 53% of the children under 12 (in Bangalore, India) have elevated lead levels in their blood, which is resulting in brain damage and is restricting their ability to learn.
The majority of western countries (with the exception of the US and Canada) have enacted rules to prevent the improper disposal of e-waste and support the ineffective international treaty (the Basel Convention) that bans trans-border shipments. (e.g. often european e-waste is exported under the guise of being 'reusable gifts')

Deeply sad, harrowing reality of lies and deceit at the top level of government. Just as sad, is the delinquent defence of this system/process in this forum.

wtf is this world coming too, we are bunch of thoughtless, self indulgent, ingnorant, retarded, arseholes.

Um I am sorry but life is not fair and we should not try to make it fair. If we did EVERYONE would be miserable instead of a select few.  Same can be said about welfare.

This is exactly my argument against socialism and communism as well. It breads mediocracy.

Everyone is born into a world with a chance. The choices they make and the amount of personal drive they have determines where they get to in the world. I know students from Africa that grew up in a hut and are now working on PHDs. We should lift them up and make an example of them instead of wallowing in pity over those that did not strive for more.

I realize that there are extreme cases, (simalia, haiti, etc) but we already have programs in place to help those people and if you really want to do the bleeding heart thing you should donate money. In know way will I lose sleep over my own personal posesions and place in life.

This isnt about free speech. She can spew any kinda radical BS she wants to. Ill even stand up for her to say it too, even though I disagree with it emphatically.

This is not beneficial discussion. Why? Its not true.

This site isnt an appropriate place to discuss this type of hate at. We come here to discuss gaming and the aspects of gaming. Get it now?  You or anyone else, like Bhug and Sanya Weathers, should do it somewhere that traffics in this type of slandering america. The worst part is these two women are cowards to return and enter their topics when they clearly misrepresent the truth. At least come and stand by your story.

Many have already stated that these countries buy this stuff from us, then melt it down to make more money for their country. They poison themselves, and lunatics blame us. Then, should we stop selling it to them, to help with their health and bad decisions, we get blamed yet again for starving and kiling them.

Fair enough for me to say so? I respect this site and its community. This is the type of crap that drives rifts between gamers from all countries and its ridiculous.

Im very, very, very far from a communist Cyborg, and Id appreciate an apology. By all means disagree. I stand by my statements and ill return to answer for them.

The only thing that is deeply sad, thoughtless, self indulgent, ignorant, retarded, and an arsehole is YOU!

You dont even know wtf you're talking about emota.

We Do Not Force Them To Buy or Burn The E-Waste!

We arent taking a big ship over there and dumping the trash. They BUY it from us. Why? They burn it down and make MONEY off it.

    Wise up.

Its just how business works.

No, she isnt even slightly correct in that context.

You are corret, we(western countries) all sell our waste and piles of other non-waste products to many countries. We in the US give more to underprivilaged people all over the world than ANY other nation on EARTH. FACT. Its what we do, because you can achieve in the US, it allows us to give immensely to less fortunate..

I in no way hold that over anyones head. We make mistakes, everyone does. We do things for the betterment of the world, and that is something you'll never take away from us. Many countries would be wrought with tyranny if it werent for our giving spirit. We've given lives for freedom all over the world. We will continue to do it also, no matter what anyone says, cause it is the right thing to do.

What you dont understand is that these countries WANT these products. They BUY them cheap from us. They burn them down and RESELL them for more money.

That is how their business works, someforumguy.

With that being said, im not a bit ignorant about this. The question isnt 'Alternative ways to help India, Africa, etc.'. Its false, and hateful slander against the US.

Well the reason I didnt, although you're right, is because I wanted everyone to know what I meant. Giving some people an actual link to a site that is hatefilled like that isnt my idea of sound judgement.

Good to meet ya though BioNut. I really appreciate, and greatly respect, the ideas and fundamentals of you libertarians. Its common sense principle and without it we'll lose this great nations foundation. I'll stand with you, sir.

Sorry to intrude with common sense here but one can check where electronic components are made and odds are you’ll see “Made in China”. (It’s “home”)

Do continue with electronic components having their home in America though instead of reference designs.

We may continue with the scheduled program of “Air Blame America“…err absence of common sense.

^Just had to snipe this bit of douchebaggery.

So it is just "Americans" who can't spell eh? Way to show intellect there sunshine

How is it our "America's" fault. I fail to see the angle here. Okay, we sell them waste. They buy it for recycling.

They procceed to do what INDIA does best, cost cut to the lowest possible number to make yet more profit than they would if they did it right.

I'm no "Pro-American", hell Mr.Bush would of labelled me an "Anti-American" but christ on a cracker. It's like those morons who blame China for selling them REALLY cheap materials and they turn out to be toxic. There comes a time when men and women MUST accept their bed they themselves have crapped in.

Maybe after 1 million Indian children have gone completely retarded the Indian government will wake up and start enacting strict protocols in the labor force. Gold drives people to do mad things, in this case it's INDIANS poisoning INDIANS.

America is only as responsible by proxy. Association if you will.

Ton is the correct spelling in American English.

Your rather arrogant response does not account for the mutation of languages throughout time.

So, for the arrogant poster who believes tonne is the correct spelling of the word, the word tonne is actually derived from Latin tunna. Note, the English language, whether you consider British English proper and American English improper, was a language used by invading Nordic and Celtic occupiers to communicate with the ignorant Englisc (yes, Englisc) speakers.

    edit
about US poisoning it's own people, 15 yrs ago 1 in 10,000 were born with autism, today it is 1 in 150.

There is no cure for autism.

Autism one of a group of serious developmental problems called autism spectrum disorders (ASD) that appear in early childhood — usually before age 3. Though symptoms and severity vary, all autism disorders affect a child's ability to communicate and interact with others.
Environmental factors that have been claimed to contribute to or exacerbate autism, or may be important in future research, include certain foods, infectious disease, heavy metals, solvents, diesel exhaust, PCBs, phthalates and phenols used in plastic products, pesticides, brominated flame retardants, alcohol, smoking, illicit drugs, vaccines, and prenatal stress.

In February 2009 a special federal court ruled that there was no proven link between certain early childhood vaccines and autism that developed in three children.

I have to laugh at the OP..Here the true facts..

1)The water and food that you eat and drink causes cancer..Don't think that the food you eat and the water you drink is safe..Man made chemicals are in both..Allot of people will die of cancer or other related health problems from it and it is not just from smoking..

2)Your Job..Those who breath in cooper dust or coal dust or those who handle chemicals or your machine runs in your building..etc,etc,etc..Your going to die of some form of cancer or health problems due to your job.

3)Look under your Kitchen Sink..You have enough Chemical to start your own Chemical warfare. And just to think your hands are bare and the Chemical soaks through your skin while you cleaning..In the end it will catch up to you..

    4) The Air...Go live in Calf..The # 1 state for Asthma for Kids..

5)The over the counter drugs..Do people really think there safe? I got news for ya think again...

Allot more could be added but you all get the picture..

When you start looking in your own back yard..Things dont look so good do they? The end results is..You going to die of something..Death is at everyone door..It just a matter of time of When.

Some people rob you at gun point..Others will rob you at "Ball Point Pen"

    Proper topic:

Rest of the world needs to catch up with the US, Canada and the EU and enact proper enviromental laws.

The problem is the corrupt governments in 3rd world countries, not the fact that the US and the EU are democracies.

    /facepalm

Your solution is what? The US and Canada follow the 3rd world countries, become corrupt so their populations are also destitute and they their countries will have bad environmental laws too?

Funny thing is if the US and Canada put pressure on these countries to reform, you'd probably bitch that the US and Canada are imperialist and should mind their own business.

More correct I'd say that you are making "certain areas of the world starve to death". If we need to thin out the herd then why not just pick you? Show your responsibility and stop being a hypocrite telling others to die for your untenable lifestyle.
