I think the title of this thread explains itself. Have any of you been wondering just where the zombies came from, are zombies attacking the entire world in general, and if they're unstoppable?
My idea is an mmorpg based on the popular Nazi zombie mode from COD:WOW. In this one, there would be a story mode (in which you can play with others like L4D) as well as regular survival zombie matches that you can do for fun (the nazi zombie mode from COD:WOW basically).
In the story, zombies are basically sprouting up everywhere in Europe and Asia, and the story mode is that you play either as a soldier or civilian, and you complete "chapters" with other people. Your homebase is either a military base for soldiers or hometowns for civilians. The thing is, occasionally your homebase is attacked by the zombies, and if everyone at the town at the moment fails to stop the zombie onslaught, then the game severely alters. Everyone from that homebase now has to try to liberate their homebase back from the zombies, then go back to fixing the place up.
Now, these are all just basic ideas. Also, I would like to say that I am not a developer or anything, just someone interested on your thoughts on this idea. Would you like add any ideas or change any?

stop with the zombie nonsense
first of you scared me into thinking a Call of Duty/World of Warcraft MMO, due to your Cod/WOW mentioning, then I started reading and figured you meant CodWaW = Call of Duty World AT War..........................anyway's
I would love to see a Cod/MMORPG, not so much with zombies......sorry.......but I am sure many can't get enough of zombies so your idea isn't all that bad........
Hey, I'm just putting out an idea that I thought was cool. Let's face it, eventually the Nazi/Imperial zombie mode will start expanding its story. It started out as a gimick, but since alot of people liked the mode, they're spawned out more zombie levels. In fact, the third level (Shi No Numa) had secret easter eggs. The radios played transmissions from other people fighting the zombie infestation. It would seem like a gimick to many, but if done correctly, an extremely fun way to expand off of the original game mode.
Face it, zombies are a popular element of gaming nowadays.
Having thought this through, I have a better way to explain the whole "zombies attack your homebase" idea. Basically, while you're either out doing a randomized mission or staying in town, occasionally zombies invade your homebase and try to attack everyone there. People outside town doing quests can opt to leave their quest to help the town out, but you give up all progress you were doing in the quest as a result. And this happens in real time too. You may wake up one day, decide to play a little, and then notice that no one is selling ammunition but zombies are currently roaming the streets. Now, it is up to the people there to fight off the zombie infestation, because otherwise you do no missions or anything else.
Also, occasionally the hell hounds attack the town, and if they succeed, then you have even more to worry about than before.
A free roaming zombie game sounds more fun. For every person that logs in 100 zombies spawn and the goal of the game is to survive (sandbox zombie game).
Trolls = Hardcore
Fanbois = Carebears
The only posts I read in threads are my own.
I wonder if zombie will be a playable race/class in the new Fallout MMO that is purportedly in development.
I'm not sure why, but the thought of playing a heavily armoured shotgun-toting zombie just appeals to me; I'd be able to get my own back on behalf of the entire zombie race for the frequent and entirely undeserved attempts at zombie genocide that feature in so many hollywood blockbusters.

It's people like you who make me sick.
They are ghouls, wrongfully called so!
It's not their fault they recieved massive rads. It's also people like you who go around shooting the poor souls because they "look like zombies" I can't stand you ghoulists. I understand that some/many/them ghouls tend to go insane but it's because of thoughts like this. They can't live in the waste land properly because people like you shoot at them as though they were monsters from some stock footage of 1954 zombie movies. It sickens me!
Ghouls are people too , wake up .

If you want zombies and Imperials, go play SWG. They just added zombies as "content". lol
throw some ninjas into the mix as well.
Nazi/Imperial eh?
That is, why I favourize independent euro-Tv over Murdock-bull.
How about republican mindless ghouls trying to attack thinking soldiers?
nazi/zombies? and the addon brings khmer rouge/aliens, stalin/mummies, Hutu/skeletons or Janjaweed/Mutants ?
Imho there are better settings than genocide, dude....

Oh. Sorry.

Do you still gotta shoot 'em in the head?

^ False the long anticipated Auschwitz Online begs to differ...
A zombie themed MMO would be sick though. Sandbox, survival horror, robust construction system, everything is a weapon (because honestly, killing things with randomly improvised shit is probably humanities single great asset), and here's the kicker: You start the game alone... yes, a world so frikking big you start alone in a randomly generated place and have to spend the equivalent of a tutorial not dying... oh and finding other players... but mostly not dying. In fact, its probably beneficial to never find other people and just kill anyone you see (because nothing sucks more than getting infected because said person befriends you and then turns out to be in fact, a zombie
) At which point "OMG" ensues and you die. (And respawn I guess.)
The game would focus on a number of things.
1. Not getting killed by zombies. 2. Not letting other players get killed by zombies. 3. Surviving (food, water, shelter, transport, etc.) 4. Trying to maintain (and here's a kicker) what's left of society.
I want a game where you have to gather survivors in the countryside, find a city, clear it of zombies, start the power running again, get the water going, live off the nigh unlimited supplies of clothing food and whatnot. Basically the Stand but replace boring old Captain Trips super flu and the demonic Randall Flagg's army of twats with FLESH EATING ZOMBIE (Ghoul for the politically correct as zombies are either a. voodoo slaves, or b. the living dead) MADNESS!!!
Obviously there'd need to be a lot more thought than that going on like rival factions forming of players in a everything and anything goes survival epic. I mean honestly wouldn't it be great to have a game where that fuckwit who keepings pulling some Leroy Jenkins shit can find a bullet lodged in his cranium.
Ultimately here's what matters. SMART ZOMBIES. I'd love to see the kind of "Oh God I'm fucked" kind of stuff that happens in the begining of 28 weeks later. The guy running away from a half dozen zombies (ghouls
) and thinking he'll get away finds two dozen hot on his tails and hundreds more closing in. The fact that even on the boat he wasn't safe, the zombies followed in the water and nearly got into his boat. I mean honestly, that's a half decent movie (28 days is better) except for the eye gouging I neither wanted to see or understood as to its inclusion.
The only thing I don't want to see is "instant infection" 28 days was too much of this. I think you should not know whether or not your character gets infected (which is different from just getting mauled killed and eaten.) for an hour or more. That gives you... fear of getting killed at any time. I don't think that perma death makes sense in an mmo tbh, but this game would need pretty harsh penalties for death. Everything you did would stay on, but everything you had would be dropped and lootable and you'd respawn far away from other people with a random starting weapon (BLUNT OBJECTS FTW!!! CRICKET BAT MOTHER FUCKER!!!)

I've seen so many posts on this thread introducing excellent ideas, but this post ultimately contained some of the greatest ideas possible.
If you applied these ideas to a COD:WOW Nazi/Imperial Zombie mmorpg, then everyone would be civilians that are survivors of zombie attacks.
I loved alot of ideas I've seen here, and I wish to add a few of my own:
1: Headshots don't always kill the zombies. Think of Dead Space. You would initially shoot a head off of a zombie alien thing, and it's done, right? Wrong, it's still coming at you. It doesn't want to eat you, it wants to kill you straight up. So, you decide to slow the thing down by shooting its knees off. Then it twitches a little, and stops moving. So you start walking away, whistling a little tune, and then you see yourself in a dying animation. Turns out that creature you "killed" didn't die, and it moved twice as fast than before and started scaling walls with its arms when you blew the creatures legs off. So, in this idea, headshots don't guarentee the creature is dead. And, it's best to watch your back, 'cause these zombies will play dead to fool you quite often...
2: Play music at random times. Once again coming from Dead Space. Notice how there would be times where all of sudden creepy music would suddenly play, then you'd check the whole room, but there was nothing at all inside the room? Then, the music stops, and you step outside....and get mauled to death by a zombie alien. I would love this inside a zombie mmorpg. Normal zombie survival games play music whenever a zombie is nearby to add to the scare factor. But in this idea, the music can no longer be trusted...
These are my current ideas to pitch in. I've been thinking that I should probably start a new thread that discusses strictly ideas about zombie mmorpgs, since what I"ve seen so far has been quite interesting.
Server-wide coop, with an endgame. Endgame meaning the entire server loses.
Think of it as one supermassive L4D survival mode. The players, who are all on the same side, will lose. But it's up to them to try to hold off as long as possible.
Gameplay would focus on venturing out in groups to secure resource nodes, and then transport those resources back to major towns which gradually get upgraded as players bring more resources into them. Resource nodes only allow a limited number of players to sit and 'harvest' them at a time, forcing players to spread out to more distant nodes.
Zombies would always be attacking these nodes. They would also sometimes attack major settlements, in big waves, and it'd basically be up to players to get back to a settlement during these big waves or face certain death (although settlements would act as respawn points.)
When the server dies, your character starts from scratch but with a boost in starting stats for each cycle of the server you've played through. So there's a recurring period where your character feels like he's new to this whole "zombies everywhere" thing. Although in general there would be very few stats, and their importance would be secondary to items.
Still doesn't get around what I'd see as the two main problems: lack of enemy types and lack of character progression. Which are two of the main ways that MMORPGs keep players' interest, really.

Well, I think a really good zombie that can and will attack in a bazillion ways would keep it interesting. We need to stop thinking about zombies as well zombies. The modern "fast" zombies are far more interesting. They aren't dead, they're just people with super duper rabies. Rabies causes insanity. Insanity is... random. So it won't be waves of boring but difficult to kill zombies alone. Infiltrations, ruses, infected but not zombied NPCs and players you have to manage and kill. If you want to be different mix the classic living dead with the running zombies via a demonic element. This will give a lot more room for interesting enemies. Waves of slow zombies, strikes of fast zombies, zombie "Hill Dawgs" (This is what my friends and I call the CoD dogs, named for hillary clinton's face.) monsters, demons, and other assorted hellions.
Character developement? Housing, muscle building, weapon skills, professions like farming, carpentry, plumbing, electricity, etc.
Although I wouldn't want to see a CoD Zombie MMO, a 1940s era zombie game would be a good setting. I think in that period there were a lot of ready to go zed hunters. It was our largest war, we had a lot of people who were ready to go and survive. I mean hell, revolve it around a cliche Nazi superweapon or something that post war Americans brought back for testing in the southwest and it set off the plague. For a reeeeealllyyy good plotline I want a Necronomicon and everything that comes with it.

Ah, another good idea. A rabie-like plague that turns people insane and violent like zombies. It would make more sense than undead soldiers spawning like crazy (although we have to find out what that voice is that tells the hell hounds to fetch your souls and laughs at you whenever you got the teddy bear inside the mystery box that forced it to move). I think a COD Zombie MMO could work. It would seem gimicky at first, but it could evolve into a beautiful game, should it be good to play. That mysterious voice that orders the hell hounds and laughs at you could end up being a powerful psychic (a la that creepy girl Alma from the F.E.A.R. series).
Also, for charcter development, you forgot the most important one of them all. The Engineer. He repairs machines and can create gun turrents (though they're not automated, since this is the 1940's after all). Also, a medic could be helpful.
Also, put that Necronomicon in the game, that picture looks like it could be the leader of the "zombies," whether they be ravid plague-infected people or actually undead soldiers reanimated by a powerful psychic.
